Frequently Asked Questions - MX402 Maruyama

How do I start the Maruyama MX402 rototiller?
Ensure the fuel valve is on, set the choke to cold start, press the primer bulb 3-5 times, and pull the recoil starter firmly. Once the engine warms, turn off the choke.
What type of oil should I use?
Use SAE 10W-30 or 10W-40 engine oil (API service classification SJ or higher) for 4-stroke engines. Change oil after the first 20 hours, then every 50 hours.
Can I use ethanol-blended gasoline?
Yes, up to E10 (10% ethanol) is acceptable. Avoid higher ethanol blends to prevent fuel system damage. Use fresh fuel and add a fuel stabilizer if storing.
How do I adjust the tilling depth?
Remove the locking pin from the tailpiece bracket and raise or lower the tailpiece to the desired depth (max 25 cm). Reinsert the pin to lock.
What maintenance is required after each use?
Clean the tines and undercarriage of debris, check for loose bolts, inspect the air filter, and wipe down the engine. Store in a dry place.
Why does the engine stall when engaging the tines?
This could be due to clogged air filter, stale fuel, or incorrect choke setting. Also ensure the tines are not obstructed. Clean or replace the air filter and use fresh fuel.
How do I replace the tines?
Disconnect the spark plug, remove the cotter pins and washers from the tine shaft, slide off the old tines, and install new ones with the cutting edges facing forward. Reassemble.
What safety precautions should I follow?
Always wear safety glasses and sturdy boots. Keep hands and feet away from tines. Never operate on slopes over 10 degrees. Disconnect spark plug before maintenance.
How do I store the rototiller for winter?
Drain the fuel tank or add fuel stabilizer, run engine until carburetor is empty. Change oil, clean thoroughly, and store in a dry, covered area. Remove spark plug and add a teaspoon of oil into cylinder.
Where can I get replacement parts?
Contact an authorized Maruyama dealer or visit the Maruyama website. Provide your model number (MX402) and serial number for exact parts.
