Frequently Asked Questions - SB602MR AmpliVox

How do I charge the battery for the first time?
Before first use, unfold the plug on the S1405 battery pack (A) and plug into an AC outlet (110V-240V). The battery will reach full charge in approximately 2 hours. The LED on top of the battery pack (B) will change from red (charging) to green (fully charged). There is no memory effect, so you can recharge whenever needed.
How long does the battery last on a full charge?
A fully charged battery provides 8 hours of typical operation, defined as speaking 35% of the time at mid volume. Standby time exceeds one year.
How do I install the battery?
Locate the battery compartment latch on top of the megaphone (C). Open the megaphone and insert the battery pack into the compartment (D) with the LED pointing up. Then close the megaphone securely.
What do the battery status LEDs mean?
Three LEDs labeled LOW, MID, and HIGH (E) indicate battery strength. When the LOW LED lights while the trigger is squeezed, the battery is drained and needs recharging. A drained battery will reduce sound volume.
How do I use the megaphone to speak?
Ensure the switch (F) is in the Off/Talk position. Place your mouth about one inch from the microphone (G), squeeze the trigger (H) and speak. Alternatively, slide the switch (I) on the side of the microphone up to lock it ON. Remember to turn it OFF after use to save battery. You can also remove the microphone from its bracket.
How can I eliminate feedback when talking?
If you experience feedback, locate the gain control (K) inside the battery compartment. Turn it counterclockwise to reduce gain. Adjust until no feedback is heard. Turn clockwise for more gain. This is especially needed with a freshly charged battery.
How do I activate the siren or whistle?
To activate the siren, move switch (E) to the right. For the whistle, move switch (E) to the left. Note: There is no volume control for these effects.
What is covered under the warranty?
AmpliVox warrants this product to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. During the warranty period, AmpliVox will repair or replace the product or defective parts at its discretion. For service, contact AmpliVox at 800-267-5486 for a Return Authorization number (RA#). Proof of purchase is required.
Can I replace the battery myself?
Yes, the battery pack is user-replaceable. Simply open the battery compartment, remove the old pack, and insert a new one. The recommended replacement is the S1405 Lithium-ion battery pack. Dispose of old batteries according to local regulations.
What should I do if the megaphone is not working?
First, check if the battery is charged and properly installed. Ensure the switch (F) is in the Talk position. If the issue persists, inspect for any visible damage or ensure the gain control is not set too low. If problems continue, contact AmpliVox customer support at 800-267-5486.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

  • Battery: First, charge battery before using. Unfold the plug on the S1405 battery pack (A) and plug into AC outlet (110V-240V). Battery will reach full charge in approximately 2 hours. LED light on top of battery pack (B) will change from red when charging, to green when fully charged. There is no memory effect with this battery pack so you can recharge whenever you feel like it!
  • Operating Capacity and Standby Time: A fully charged battery will provide 8 hours of typical operation, defined as speaking 35% of the time at mid volume, and over one year of standby / idle time.
  • Cycle Life: Lithium-ion battery pack can be expected to provide 80% of its rated capacity after 300 charge / discharge cycles and 60% after 500 cycles. Storing, transporting or using the battery pack at temperatures exceeding 115°F / 45°C or -4°F / -20°C will substantially reduce the cycle life of the battery pack.
  • Install Battery: Locate battery compartment latch on top of megaphone (C). Open megaphone and insert battery into compartment (D) with led pointing up. Close megaphone.
  • Battery Status: The megaphone has 3 LED's LOW, MID, HIGH, (E) that will tell you the current strength of the battery. Note: A drained battery will not give sufficient sound volume. Recharge the battery when LOW LED lights when trigger is squeezed.
  • Talk: Make sure that the switch (F) is in the Off / Talk position. Place mouth about one inch from microphone (G), squeeze trigger (H) and speak or you can slide switch (I) on the side of the microphone up into the locked ON position. CAUTION: If you do not move switch into the OFF position when done, megaphone will stay ON and drain the batteries. Microphone can also be removed from bracket. To increase volume, rotate volume control knob (J) from bottom to top.
When you have a freshly charged battery you may get "feedback" when talking. To eliminate feedback you need to turn down the gain. Locate the gain control (K) in the battery compartment. Turn until you do not hear any feedback. Less gain, turn counter clockwise. More gain, turn clockwise.
  • Siren: To activate Siren, move switch (E) to the right. Siren will be heard. There is no control of the volume.
  • Whistle: To activate Whistle, move switch (E) to the left. Whistle will be heard. There is no control of the volume.
  • Property Label: Located on the bottom of the bell. Use marking pen to write ownership name on megaphone.
