Frequently Asked Questions - VC-M46 SHARP

How do I connect the VC-M46 to my TV?

Use the supplied RCA composite cables (yellow for video, red/white for audio) or connect via RF coaxial cable from the ANT output to the TV antenna input. For best quality, use the SCART connection if available.

Why does the playback picture look snowy or distorted?

This often indicates dirty video heads. Use a VHS head cleaning cassette following the instructions. Avoid abrasive cleaners; if the problem persists, the heads may be worn and need replacement.

Can I record from one channel while watching another?

Yes, the VC-M46 allows one-touch recording (OTR) of a channel while you watch a different channel on the TV, provided the VCR is set to the correct source.

What type of tapes can I use?

Use standard VHS tapes (not VHS-C without adapter). Tapes up to E-240 are supported. For EP mode, use T-160 or longer for extended recording.

How do I set the clock and timer?

Press the MENU button, navigate to clock setting, and enter current date/time using CH +/– and OK. For timer recording, use the Timer or VCR Plus+ system with correct channel and start/stop times.

Why won't the tape eject?

First, ensure the VCR is powered on. If still stuck, try the manual eject hole (usually near the cassette door). Insert a paperclip gently to release the mechanism. If that fails, a belt or gear may be broken.

What does the 'Hi-Fi' indicator mean?

The Hi-Fi indicator lights when playing a tape recorded in VHS Hi-Fi stereo audio. This provides higher fidelity sound than standard linear tracks.

Can I use the VC-M46 with a modern flat-screen TV?

Yes, but you'll need an RCA-to-HDMI converter or connect via SCART-to-HDMI adapter if your TV lacks analog inputs. The RF output may not work on newer digital tuners.

How do I clean the VCR?

Use a dry VHS head cleaning cassette for 10-15 seconds every 2-3 months. Wipe the exterior with a dry cloth. Avoid inserting any liquid into the unit.

The SKIP function determines whether the channel can be selected when using CHANNEL ▲/▼ instead of the NUMBER BUTTONS.

Normally it will not be necessary to manually tune broadcast programmes except in unusual circumstances such as poor signals, or unless you wish to change the order of your preset channels. Ensure that the video channel is selected on the TV.

IMPORTANT: Page 8, BASIC INSTALLATION should read:

CLOCK SETTING AND AUTO TUNING

This model automatically tunes the TV channels for your area.

- Ensure the VCR is connected as shown on page 6 and that the VCR RF channel is tuned if a SCART lead is not used (how to do this is shown on page 7). - Turn the TV and VCR on, and select the video channel on the TV.

The first screen displayed is the language menu. Press [▲/▼] to select your language. Press SET to confirm.

The second screen displayed is the clock setting menu.

1. Press [▲/▼] to select either 12 or 24H clock.
2. Press [◀/▶] to select TIME. Enter the time using the NUMBER BUTTONS or [▲/▼]. If the minutes are less than 10 enter the leading 0. If using the 12H clock enter AM or PM by pressing [AM/PM] on the remote control.

1. Press [◀/▶] to select DATE. Enter the date using the NUMBER BUTTONS. For example, for 1st April enter 01 04.
2. Press [◀/▶] to select YEAR. Enter the last two digits of the year using the NUMBER BUTTONS. For example, for 1997 enter 97. Then press SET to confirm.
3. Press MENU. The main menu is now displayed. To auto tune your channels, press [▲/▼] to select SET UP. Press SET to confirm.
4. CHANNEL PRESET will be highlighted. Press SET to confirm.
5. AUTO will be highlighted. Press SET to confirm and to start the tuning.
6. When the tuning operation has been completed, the VCR will programme tuned to channel 1.

- If you leave more than 2 minutes between pressing any buttons, the VCR will leave the MENU function. Press MENU to exit the menu function at any time. - If the VCR does not auto-tune due to poor reception, refer to MANUAL TUNING, (including SKIP) on page (II).
