What types of drives are compatible with the SilverStone SST-FS212B?

The SST-FS212B supports two 2.5-inch SATA hard drives or SSDs with a height up to 9.5 mm. Both HDD and SSD are compatible.

What RAID modes does the FS212B support?

It supports JBOD (spanning), RAID 0 (striping for performance), and RAID 1 (mirroring for redundancy). Modes are selected via a rear switch.

Is the FS212B USB 3.0 compatible?

Yes, it features a USB 3.0 interface (Type-B) and is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 connections.

Can I hot-swap drives in the FS212B?

Yes, the enclosure supports hot-swapping. Drives can be removed and inserted without powering off the device, provided the operating system supports it.

What do the LED indicators mean?

Each drive bay has a blue LED: steady blue for power, blinking blue for activity. A rear LED indicates RAID mode: green for RAID 1, red for RAID 0, off for JBOD.

How do I install drives into the FS212B?

1. Slide the drive tray out. 2. Place a 2.5-inch SATA drive onto the tray aligning the screw holes. 3. Secure with screws (included). 4. Slide the tray back in until it clicks. No tools required.

Can I use drives of different capacities?

For RAID 0 and JBOD modes, drives can be of different capacities (the total capacity is additive or limited by smallest). For RAID 1, it is recommended to use identical drives for best performance.

Is the FS212B bus-powered?

Yes, it is bus-powered via the USB connection. No external power adapter is needed. It requires 5V/1A; some USB ports may not provide enough power; use a powered USB hub if necessary.

Which operating systems are supported?

The FS212B is recognized as a standard USB mass storage device by Windows (7/8/10/11), macOS (10.10+), and most Linux distributions. No additional drivers are required.

How do I change the RAID mode?

Turn off the enclosure and disconnect USB. Use a small screwdriver to slide the RAID switch on the rear panel to the desired position (JBOD, RAID 0, or RAID 1). Reconnect USB and power on. Note: Changing RAID mode will erase all data on the drives.

Introduction

To accommodate PC user's need for more storage flexibility and convenience, SilverStone created a line of front bay storage products called the FS series. These are 5.25" bay chassis designed to fit 3.5" or 2.5" SAS/SATA drives. Equipped with release handle made out of finely brushed aluminum, hot-swapping drives is extremely quick and comfortable. Built-in cooling fan behind the chassis ensures drive and run cool for extended life while individual LED indicators let user easily monitor drive status in one glance. For security, each drive tray also has metal key lock. For those that need to upgrade their current PC with more drives, SilverStone's FS series is a great choice.
