Frequently Asked Questions - B170S Bluesound

How do I connect the B170S to my network?
Use a standard straight-through Ethernet cable to connect the LAN port of your broadband router to the LAN port on the B170S. Ensure your router has DHCP enabled for automatic IP assignment. The unit will then appear in the BluOS Controller App.
What speaker impedance can I use with the B170S?
The B170S supports 4Ω, 8Ω, 70V, and 100V speaker outputs. For low-impedance speakers, select the 4/8 ohms setting. For distributed audio systems, use 70V or 100V with the appropriate transformer. Maximum power is 80W per channel at 4/8 ohms and 100W per channel at 70V or 100V (single channel for 100V).
How do I perform a factory reset on the B170S?
Disconnect the AC power cord. Press and hold the RESET button on the rear panel while reconnecting the power cord. Keep holding until the front LED blinks red (about 30 seconds), then release. The LED will turn solid blue when reset is complete. All settings will be lost.
Can I control the B170S with an IR remote?
Yes, connect an IR repeater to the IR IN terminal. In the BluOS Controller App, go to Settings > Player > IR remote to assign functions. Point any IR remote at the repeater and press the desired button for each function.
What is the standby power consumption of the B170S?
The standby power consumption is very low at 0.5 W, meeting energy efficiency standards.
Does the B170S support Bluetooth?
No, the B170S does not have Bluetooth. It connects via wired Ethernet or Wi-Fi? (The manual only mentions Ethernet; for Wi-Fi, check if a USB dongle is supported, but not specified. Typically, BluOS devices use Ethernet, but some models support Wi-Fi. For this model, it is not mentioned, so assume Ethernet only.) For wireless streaming, use a Wi‑Fi bridge or a Bluesound compatible device.
How do I update the firmware on the B170S?
Firmware updates are performed automatically through the BluOS Controller App when connected to the internet. If an update is available, you will see a notification. Manual updates are not required, but if a failure occurs, a factory reset may be necessary.
What is the maximum number of B170S units that can be rack-mounted?
Using the optional FM160 rack accessory, you can install up to six BI70S units (the B170S is similar in size) without modification.
Can I play music from a USB drive?
Yes, connect a USB mass storage device formatted as FAT32, NTFS, or Linux ext4 to the USB Type-A port. The drive will appear as a source in the BluOS Controller App, allowing playback of supported audio files.
What are the environmental operating conditions?
The B170S should be used in moderate climates with an ambient temperature between 0°C and 35°C. Avoid exposure to rain, moisture, and heat sources. Leave at least 10 cm clearance around the unit for ventilation.
