Frequently Asked Questions - 5977N Taylor

How do I switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius?
Press and hold the °F/°C button for 3 seconds until the display changes. The unit will remember your last setting.
How do I replace the battery?
Slide the battery cover on the back of the thermometer open. Remove the old CR2032 battery and insert a new one with the positive side facing up. Close the cover securely.
What is the maximum temperature this thermometer can measure?
The Taylor 5977N can measure from -58°F to 572°F (-50°C to 300°C). Do not exceed this range to avoid damage.
Can I leave the thermometer in the oven while cooking?
No, this thermometer is not oven-safe. The probe and housing are not designed for prolonged high heat. Use it only for spot-checking temperatures.
How do I clean the thermometer?
Wipe the probe with a damp cloth or alcohol wipe after each use. Do not submerge the unit in water. For stubborn residue, use warm soapy water on the probe only, then dry thoroughly.
Why is the display showing 'LLL' or 'HHH'?
'LLL' means the temperature is below the measurement range (-58°F). 'HHH' means it is above 572°F. Remove the thermometer from extreme conditions and allow it to return to room temperature.
How accurate is this thermometer?
The accuracy is ±1°F (±0.5°C) in the range of 32°F to 212°F (0°C to 100°C). For best results, calibrate periodically using the ice water method.
How do I calibrate the thermometer?
Fill a glass with ice and water. Insert the probe into the ice water without touching the glass. Wait 30 seconds, then press the CAL button (if available) or adjust using a small screwdriver on the calibration pot (refer to manual). The reading should be 32°F (0°C).
What type of battery does it use?
It uses one CR2032 coin cell battery. This is a common battery available at most stores. The battery life is typically about 300 hours of continuous use.
Why does the thermometer turn off automatically?
To conserve battery, the thermometer has an auto-off feature that shuts off after 10 minutes of inactivity. Simply press the ON/OFF button to restart.

SEPARATED FLUID:

Sometimes the red fluid inside the thermometer may separate and must be reunited before use. Remove the thermometer from the card and gently tap the bulb end of the thermometer against the palm of your hand. Pause inbetween taps to permit the liquid to rejoin. Continue until there is no longer separation in the fluid.
