Frequently Asked Questions - SMDC401UK Mercury

How do I set the clock on my Mercury SMDC401UK microwave?
Press the Clock button. Use the number pad to enter the current time (hour and minutes). Press Clock again to confirm. Press AM/PM if needed.
Can I use metal cookware in this microwave?
No, metal can cause sparks and damage the microwave. Only use microwave-safe containers such as glass, ceramic, or plastic labeled for microwave use.
How do I clean the interior of the microwave?
Wipe the interior with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners. For tough stains, place a bowl of water with lemon juice and heat for 2-3 minutes to loosen residue, then wipe.
What does the 'Auto Defrost' function do?
It automatically sets the defrost time based on the weight of the food. Press Auto Defrost, enter the weight in pounds, and the microwave will adjust power and time for even defrosting.
Why does the microwave stop during operation?
This may be due to the child lock being activated, or if the door is not properly closed. Check the door seal and press Stop/Clear. If child lock is on, press and hold Stop/Clear for 3 seconds to unlock.
Can I use the microwave with a power adapter or extension cord?
It is recommended to plug the microwave directly into a dedicated 120V outlet. Using an extension cord may cause voltage drop and overheating. If necessary, use a heavy-duty cord rated for 15 amps.
How do I set the cooking time and power level?
Press Time Cook, enter the desired time using the number pad, then press Power and select a level (1-10). Press Start to begin. Default power is 100% (10).
What should I do if the turntable does not rotate?
Ensure the turntable glass and roller ring are properly seated. The glass must sit flat on the roller ring. If it still doesn't rotate, the motor may be faulty - contact customer support.
Is the microwave safe to use empty?
Never operate the microwave empty as it can damage the magnetron. Always have food or water inside when running.
How do I use the Express Cook button?
Press the Express Cook button once to cook for 1 minute at 100% power. Each additional press adds 1 minute. You can press up to 6 minutes.
