How do I change the planer blades?

First, disconnect the power. Wear protective gloves. Loosen the three hex head screws using the spanner provided, push the used blade out with a screwdriver, install new or reversed blades, and tighten screws. Repeat for the second blade. Always replace or reverse both blades at the same time.

What is the correct way to adjust the planing depth?

Turn the Depth Adjustment Knob clockwise to increase depth (up to 2 mm) and counter-clockwise to decrease. The numbers on the knob correspond to millimeters. Always test on a scrap workpiece first.

How do I use the parallel guide?

Attach the angle bracket to the parallel guide using the supplied carriage bolt and wingnut. Align the bracket with the hole on the side of the planer and tighten the thumbscrew. Adjust the guide width by loosening the wingnut, sliding, and retightening.

How do I make a rebate cut?

Mark the rebate area and clamp the workpiece. Adjust the parallel guide to the width and the rebate guide to the desired depth. Set the chip depth using the knob. Plane over several passes (e.g., 6 mm rebate in 3 passes at 2 mm depth). The rebate guide indicates when height is reached.

What does the automatic base park shoe do?

The base park shoe allows you to rest the planer on the workpiece without the blades causing dents. It rotates out of the way during planing. Always wait until the blade stops before setting the planer down; the shoe does not protect the blade from damage.

Can I use the planer for chamfering edges?

Yes. The front base plate has a precision V-groove for making 45° chamfers. Set the depth, place the groove on the workpiece corner, and plane along the edge.

How do I connect a vacuum for dust extraction?

Insert the Dust Extraction Adaptor (supplied) into the Dust Extraction Chute on the planer. Then connect your vacuum hose to the adaptor.

What should I do if the planer sparks excessively or stops?

Excessive sparking or failure to operate may indicate worn carbon brushes. Discontinue use and have both brushes replaced by a qualified electrician or power tool repairer. A small amount of sparking through vents is normal.

What is the warranty and what does it cover?

The planer has a 3-year replacement warranty for DIY use. It covers defects but excludes consumables like carbon brushes and blades. Warranty is void if used with wrong voltage, abused, or disassembled. Return to Bunnings Warehouse with receipt.

What safety precautions should I take when using the planer?

3 YEAR REPLACEMENT WARRANTY

Your product is guaranteed for a period of 36 months from the original date of purchase and is intended for DIY (Do It Yourself) use only. If a product is defective it will be replaced in accordance with the terms of this warranty. Warranty excludes consumable parts, for example: carbon brushes, planer blades, etc.

SETUP & PREPARATION

1. ASSEMBLY

WARNING! ENSURE THE TOOL IS TURNED OFF AND DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER SUPPLY BEFORE PERFORMING ANY OF THE FOLLOWING OPERATIONS.

Attaching The Rebate Guide

The Rebate Guide allows a specific rebate depth to be achieved.

NOTE: The Rebate Guide is attached on the same side as the Dust Extraction Chute.

1 Place the Rebate Guide in the slot on the same side as the Dust Extraction Chute.

2 Place one of the supplied thumbscrews into the slot and tighten by rotating it clockwise.

Attaching The Parallel Guide

1 Fasten the Angle Bracket to the Parallel Guide using the supplied carriage bolt and wingnut.

2 Align the Angle Bracket with the hole on the side of the planer.

Dust Extraction

For optimum dust extraction, a vacuum hose (not supplied) can be fitted to the tool by using a Dust Extraction Adaptor (supplied).

1 Insert the Dust Extraction Adaptor into the Dust Extraction Chute.

2 Connect a vacuum hose to the Dust Extraction Adaptor.

Depth Adjustment Knob

The planing depth can be adjusted between 0 and 2mm. The numbers on the Depth Adjustment Knob correspond to the planing depth (mm). Always test the setting on a scrap workpiece first.

1 Increase cutting depth by rotating clockwise.

NOTE: Set the Depth Adjustment Knob back to '0' once finished with the tool to protect the blades from damage.

1 Loosen the rebate thumbscrew.

3 Tighten the rebate thumbscrew to secure it.

Adjusting The Parallel Guide

1 Loosen the parallel guide wingnut.

2 Slide the Guide to the required position and tighten the wingnut.

3 After adjusting the Parallel Guide, make sure the guide is clear of the blade by adjusting the position of the Angle Bracket.

Lock-Off Trigger

1 Press and hold the Lock-Off Button.

2 Press the On/Off Trigger to start the planer.

3 Release the On/Off Trigger to turn off the planer.
NOTE: Wait until the blade stops completely before setting the planer down.

Automatic Base Park Shoe

The Base Park Shoe allows you to rest the planer on the workpiece without the blades causing dents or damage.

The park shoe will rotate out of the way while planing.

WARNING! THE PARK SHOE DOES NOT PROTECT THE BLADE FROM DAMAGE. ALWAYS WAIT UNTIL THE BLADE STOPS COMPLETELY BEFORE SETTING THE PLANER DOWN.

4. PLANING

1 Set the required depth on the planer.

NOTE: For finishing surfaces, use a low chip depth and make multiple passes over the material.

2 Switch on the planer.
3 Lower the planer onto the workpiece, and push the planer over the surface with both hands.

NOTE: Ensure that both base plates lie flat along the material during planing.

NOTE: Ensure the operating pressure is applied to the rear base plate when lifting the planer off the material.

Chamfering Edges

The planer has a precision machined 'V' groove in the Front Base Plate for making 45° chamfers along the edges of your workpiece.

1 Set the required depth on the planer.
NOTE: A layer of material will be removed from the workpiece even if the cutting depth is set to 0; always test the setting on a scrap workpiece first.
2 Place the groove precisely on the corner of the workpiece.
3 Plane along the edge of your workpiece.

5. REBATE CUTS

1 Mark out the area for rebate and clamp the workpiece down.

2 Adjust the Parallel Guide to the appropriate width.
3 Adjust the Rebate Guide to the height of the desired rebate.
4 Adjust the chip depth by turning the Depth Adjustment Knob.

NOTE: It is recommended that rebates are formed over several passes. A 6mm rebate can be formed by making 3 passes over the material at a depth setting of 2mm.

5 Switch on the planer.
6 Plane along workpiece, using the Parallel Guide to keep the planer square to the material.
7 The Rebate Guide indicates when the required rebate height is achieved. Keep planing along the workpiece until the Rebate Guide touches the surface of the rebate.

MAINTENANCE

Cleaning

• Keep the ventilation vents of the planer clean at all times, if possible, prevent foreign matter from entering the vents.
  • After each use, blow air through the planer housing to ensure it is free from all dust particles which may build up. Build up of dust particles may cause the planer to overheat and fail.
• If the enclosure of the planer requires cleaning, do not use solvents but a moist soft cloth only. Never let any liquid get inside the planer; never immerse any part of the planer into a liquid.

Carbon Brushes

When the carbon brushes wear out, the planer will spark and/or stop. Discontinue use as soon as this happens. They should be replaced prior to recommencing use of the planer. Carbon brushes are a wearing component of the planer, and are not covered under warranty. Continuing to use the planer when carbon brushes need to be replaced may

cause permanent damage to the planer. Carbon brushes will wear out after many uses but when the carbon brushes need to be replaced, take the planer to an electrician or a power tool repairer for a quick and low cost replacement. Always replace both carbon brushes at the same time.

Note: Ozito Industries will not be responsible for any damage or injuries caused by the repair of the planer by an unauthorised person or by mishandling of the planer.

Changing Blades

Before you make any adjustments, make sure the power cord has been disconnected from the power supply.

The blades that come fitted to the tool are 82mm blades. The drum is fitted with two separate blades; both must be reversed or replaced at the same time. Never replace only one blade.

WARNING! ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE GLOVES WHEN CHANGING THE BLADE.

1 Loosen the 3 hex head screws using the spanner provided.

2 Push the used blade out through the slot in the motor housing using a screwdriver. Keep fingers away from blade.

3 Install new blades.

Note: Blades are reversible. If changing blades for the first time, turn over the blades to expose a fresh cutting edge.

4 Tighten the 3 hex head screws.

1. Repeat the process for the second blade.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Sparking visible through the housing air vents

A small amount of sparking may be visible through the housing vents. This is normal and does not indicate a problem.

May indicate the carbon brushes have worn out and need to be replaced. Carbon brushes should only be replaced by a qualified electrician or power tool repairer.

This product has been designed for 230V and 240V only. Always check that the power supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate.

Note: The supply of 230V and 240V is interchangeable for Australia and New Zealand.

This tool is double insulated in accordance with AS/NZS 60745-1; therefore no earth wire is required.

The power supply for this product should be protected by a residual current device (rated at 30mA or less). A residual current device reduces the risk of electric shock.

If the supply cord of this power tool is damaged, it must be replaced by a specially prepared cord available through the service organization.

Note: Double insulation does not take the place of normal safety precautions when operating this tool. The insulation system is for added protection against injury resulting from a possible electrical insulation failure within the tool.

Using an Extension Lead

Always use an approved extension lead suitable for the power input of this tool. Before use, inspect the extension lead for signs of damage, wear and ageing. Replace the extension lead if damaged or defective. When using an extension lead on a reel, always unwind the lead completely. Use of an extension lead not suitable for the power input of the tool or which is damaged or defective may result in a risk of fire and electric shock.

GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS

WARNING! Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and ions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

1. Work area safety

a. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
b. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
c. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

1. Electrical safety

a. Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
c. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
d. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
e. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.

1. Personal safety

a. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
b. Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
c. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.

d. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
e. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
f. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
g. If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
h. Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

1. Power tool use and care

a. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
b. Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
c. Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
d. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
e. Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool's operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
h. Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.

1. Service

a. Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

- Wait for the cutter to stop before setting the tool down. An exposed cutter may engage the surface leading to possible loss of control and serious injury.

• Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, because the cutter may contact its own cord. Cutting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.
• Use clamps or another practical way to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding the work by hand or against the body leaves it unstable and may lead to loss of control.
• Recommendation that the tool always be supplied via a residual current device with a rated residual current of 30mA or less.
• If the supply cord of this power tool is damaged, it must be replaced by a specially prepared cord available through the service organization.

WARNING!

Use of this tool can generate dust containing chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Use appropriate respiratory protection.

• Keep air vents unobstructed for proper motor cooling.
• DO NOT lay tool down on shoe when the blades are exposed. This can chip the blades.
• Keep side dust extraction port unobstructed at all times.
• Never reach under the tool for any reason unless it is turned off and UNPLUGGED. BLADES ARE EXPOSED AND EXTREMELY SHARP.
• Use this tool for working with wood and wood products only.
• Never operate without securely holding the front handle.
  • Always operate planer with two hands.
• Planer blades are extremely sharp – Handle with great care.
