Installing and operating your fridge freezer

Before using your fridge freezer, you should pay attention to the following points:

- The operating voltage for your fridge freezer is 220-240 V at 50Hz.

- We do not accept responsibility for any damages that occur due to ungrounded usage.

- Place your fridge freezer where it will not be exposed to direct sunlight.

- Your appliance should be at least 50 cm away from stoves, gas ovens and heater cores, and at least 5 cm away from electrical ovens.

- Your fridge freezer should never be used outdoors or exposed to rain.

- When your fridge freezer is placed next to a deep freezer, there should be at least 2 cm between them to prevent humidity forming on the outer surface.

- Do not place anything on your fridge freezer, and install your fridge in a suitable place so that at least 15 cm of free space is available above it.

- Do not place heavy items on the appliance.

- Use the adjustable front legs to make sure your appliance is level and stable. You can adjust the legs by turning them in either direction. This should be done before placing food in the fridge freezer.

- Before using your fridge freezer, wipe all parts with a solution of warm water and a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate, then rinse with clean water and dry. Place all parts in the fridge freezer after cleaning.

Before using your fridge freezer

- When using your fridge freezer for the first time, or after transportation, keep it in an upright position for at least 3 hours before plugging into the mains. This allows efficient operation and prevents damage to the compressor.

- Your fridge freezer may have a smell when it is operated for the first time. This is normal and the smell will fade away when your fridge starts to cool.

USAGE INFORMATION

Information on No-Frost technology

No-frost refrigerators differ from other static refrigerators in their operating principle.

In normal fridges, the humidity entering the fridge due to opening the door and the humidity inherent in the food causes freezing in the freezer department. To defrost the frost and ice in the freezer compartment, you are periodically required to turn off the fridge, place the food that needs to be kept frozen in a separately cooled container and remove the ice gathered in the freezer department.

The situation is completely different in no-frost fridges. Dry and cold air is blown into the fridge and freezer compartments homogeneously and evenly from several points via a blower fan. Cold air dispersed homogeneously and evenly between the shelves cools all of your food equally and uniformly, thus preventing humidity and freezing.

Therefore your no-frost fridge allows you ease of use, in addition to its huge capacity and stylish appearance.

Temperature settings

Cooling compartment

The thermostat ensures that the temperature settings in the cooling and freezing compartments of your refrigerator are controlled automatically. It may be used to set to any value ranging from 1 to 6. As you turn the thermostat setting knob from 1 to 6, the amount of cooling increases.

Cooling compartment thermostat knob:

5 - 6 : For more cooling.

3 - 5 : For normal use.

1 - 2 : For less cooling.

Warnings about temperature adjustments

- It is not recommended that you operate your fridge in environments colder than 10^ C in terms of its efficiency.

- The thermostat should be set according to the frequency of door openings and the quantity of food kept inside the fridge.

- When you first switch on the appliance, you should ideally try to run it without any food in for 24 hours and not open the door. If you need to use it straight away, try not to put a large quantity of food inside.

- A 5 minute delay function is included to prevent damage to the compressor of your fridge, when you unplug it and then plug it in again to operate it, or when an energy breakdown occurs. Your fridge will start to operate normally after 5 minutes.

- Your fridge is designed to operate in the ambient temperature intervals stated in the standards, according to the climate class stated in the information label. It is not

recommended that your fridge is operated in the environments which are out of the stated temperature intervals. This will reduce the cooling efficiency of the fridge.

- This appliance is designed for use at an ambient temperature within the 16^ - 43^ range.

Climate ClassAmbient Temperature °C
T Between 16 and 43 (°C)
ST Between 16 and 38 (°C)
N Between 16 and 32 (°C)
SN Between 10 and 32 (°C)

ARRANGING FOOD IN THE APPLIANCE

Refrigerator compartment

  • To reduce humidity and the consequent increase in frost, never place liquids in unsealed containers in the refrigerator. Frost tends to concentrate in the coldest parts of the evaporating liquid and in time will more frequent defrosting will be required.
  • Never place warm food in the refrigerator. Warm food should be allowed to cool at room temperature and should be arranged to ensure adequate air circulation in the refrigerator compartment.
  • Nothing should touch the back wall of the appliance as it will cause frost and packaging to stick to it. Do not open the refrigerator door too frequently.
  • Arrange meat and cleaned fish (wrapped in packages or sheets of plastic) which you intend to use in 1-2 days, in the bottom section of the refrigerator compartment (that is above the crisper) as this is the coldest section and will ensure the best storage conditions.
  • Store fruit and vegetable items loose in the crisper containers.

Some recommendations have been specified below for the placement and storage of your food in the cooling compartment.

Food MaximumStoring timeWhere to place in the fridge compartment
Vegetables and fruits 1week Vegetable bin
Meat and fish 2 - 3 DaysWrapped in plastic foil or bags or in a meat container(on the glass shelf)
Fresh cheese 3 - 4 DaysIn special door shelf
Butter and margarine 1week In special door shelf
Bottled products milk and yoghurtUntil the expiry date recommended by the producerIn special door shelf
Eggs 1 month In the eggshelf
Cooked food All shelves

NOTE: Potatoes, onions and garlic should not be stored in the refrigerator.

Freezer compartment

- Please use the deep freeze compartment of your refrigerator for storing the frozen food for a long time and for producing ice.

- To get maximum capacity for freezer compartment, please just use glass shelves for upper and middle section. For bottom section, please use lower basket.

- Place the food you would like to freeze initially in the upper shelf of the deep freeze section in such a way that it does not exceed the declared freezing capacity of your refrigerator. You may place your food next to the other frozen food once it has frozen (for at least 24 hours).

- It is recommended to keep the thermostat set at level 3,5.

- It is recommended that the food to be frozen is kept separate from the already frozen food.

- Foods should be frozen in single portion sized containers.

- Never refreeze frozen food after it has thawed. It may be hazardous to your health and could lead to food poisoning.

- Never place warm food in the freezer compartment, as it will disturb the frozen food.

- When buying frozen food, make sure that it was frozen under appropriate conditions and the packaging is not damaged.

- When storing frozen food, the instructions shown on the packaging should always be followed carefully and if no information is provided food should consumed as soon as possible.

- Frozen food should be transported in appropriate containers and placed in the freezer as soon as possible. Do not use door shelves for freezing.

- If a frozen food package shows signs of humidity and abnormal swelling it is probable that it has been previously stored at an unsuitable temperature and that the contents have deteriorated. Do not buy such food.

- Storage time for frozen food may differ according to the ambient temperature, frequency of door openings, thermostat adjustments, type of food and the time elapsed between

buying the food and placing the food in the freezer. Always follow instructions on the packaging and do not exceed the storage period.

- During extended power outages, please do not open the door of the deep freeze compartment. During longer lasting power cuts, you should not refreeze your food.

Note that: If you attempt to open the freezer door immediately after closing it, you will find that it will not open easily. This is quite normal. Once equilibrium has been reached, the door will open easily.

Important note:

  • Frozen food, when thawed, should be cooked just like fresh food. If it is not cooked after being thawed, it must NEVER be re-frozen.
  • The taste of some spices found in cooked dishes (anise, basilica, watercress, vinegar, assorted spices, ginger, garlic, onion, mustard, thyme, marjoram, black pepper, etc.) changes and they assume a strong taste when they are stored for a long period of time. Therefore, add small amounts of spices to the frozen food, or the desired spice should be added after the food has thawed.
  • The storage time of food is dependent on the oil used. Suitable oils are margarine, calf fat, olive oil and butter and unsuitable oils are peanut oil and pig fat.
  • Food in liquid form should be frozen in plastic cups and the other food should be frozen in plastic folios or bags.

Some recommendations have been specified on pages 9, 10 and 11 for the placement and storage of your food in the deep freeze compartment.

  • If the door opening direction of your refrigerator may be changed, you should contact the nearest Authorised Service Agent to have the opening direction changed.

BEFORE CALLING YOUR AFTER SALES SERVICE

Check Warnings

If your fridge is not operating;

• Is there a power failure?
- Is the plug connected to the socket correctly?
- Is the fuse of the socket to which the plug is connected or the main fuse blown?
- Is there any failure at the socket? To check this, plug your refrigerator into a socket that you know is working.

If your fridge is not cooling sufficiently enough:

• Is the thermostat setting correct?
- Is the door of your fridge opened frequently and left open for a long while?
• Is the door of fridge closed properly?
- Did you put a dish or food in your fridge so that it touches the rear wall of your fridge and prevents air circulation?
• Is your fridge filled excessively?
- Is there adequate distance between your fridge and the rear and side walls?
- Is the ambient temperature within the range of values specified in the operating manual?

If the food in your refrigerator compartment is over cooled

• Is the thermostat setting correct?
- Has there been any food recently put inside the freezer compartment? If so, your fridge may over cool the food inside the refrigerator compartment as it will operate for longer to cool this food.

If your fridge is operating too loudly:

To maintain the set cooling level, the compressor may be activated from time to time. Noises from your fridge at this time are normal and due to its operation. When the required cooling level is reached, noise will automatically be decreased. If the noises persist:

  • Is your appliance stable? Are the legs adjusted?
    • Is there anything behind your fridge?
  • Are the shelves or dishes on the shelves vibrating? Re-place the shelves and/or dishes if this is the case.
  • Are the items placed on your fridge vibrating?

Normal Noises

Cracking (Ice cracking) Noise:

• During automatic defrosting.
- When the appliance is cooled or warmed (due to expansion of appliance material).

Short cracking: Heard when the thermostat switches the compressor on/off.

Compressor noise (Normal motor noise): This noise means that the compressor operates normally. The Compressor may cause more noise for a short time when it starts.

Bubbling noise and splash: This noise is caused by the flow of the refrigerant in the tubes of the system.

Water flow noise: The normal flow noise of water flowing to the evaporation container during defrosting. This noise can be heard during defrosting.

Air Blowing Noise (Normal fan noise): This noise can be heard in a No-Frost fridge during normal operation of the system due to the circulation of air.

If humidity builds up inside the fridge;

  • Is the food packed properly? Are the containers dry before being placed in the fridge?
  • Are the fridge doors opened frequently? Humidity of the room gets in the fridge when the doors are opened. Humidity build up will be faster when you open the doors more frequently, especially if the humidity of the room is high.
  • Build up of water drops on the rear wall after automatic defrosting is normal (in Static Models).

If the doors are not opened and closed properly:

  • Do the food packages prevent closing of the door?
  • Are the door compartments, shelves and drawers located properly?
  • Are door gaskets broken or torn?
    • Is your fridge on a level surface?

If the edges of fridge cabinet that touch the door joint are warm:

In hot weather, the surfaces of the joint contact may get warmer during operation of the compressor. This is normal.

Important notes:

  • The compressor protection function will be activated after sudden power breakdowns or after unplugging the appliance, because the gas in the cooling system will not have stabilised. Your fridge will start after 5 minutes, there is nothing to worry about.
  • If you do not intend to use your fridge for a long time (e.g. in summer holidays) unplug it and clean once defrosting has taken place (see PART 4). Leave the door open to prevent humidity and smells.
  • If a problem persists after you have followed all the instructions above, please consult to the nearest authorised service centre.
  • The appliance you have purchased is designed for domestic use and can only be used at home and for the stated purposes. It is not suitable for commercial or common use. If the consumer uses the appliance in a way that does not comply with this, we

emphasise that the manufacturer and the dealer will not be responsible for any repair or failure within the guarantee period.

Tips for saving energy

  1. Install the appliance in a cool, well ventilated room, but not in direct sunlight and not near a heat source (radiator, cooker.. etc). Otherwise use an insulating plate.
  2. Allow warm food and drinks to cool down outside the appliance.
  3. When thawing frozen food, place it in the refrigerator compartment. The low temperature of the frozen food will help to cool the refrigerator compartment when it is thawing. This will help to save energy. If the frozen food is put out, it results in a waste of energy.
  4. Cover drinks or other liquids when placing them in the appliance Otherwise humidity increases in the appliance. Therefore, the working time gets longer. Also covering drinks and other liquids helps to preserve smell and taste.
  5. Try to avoid keeping the doors open for long periods or opening the doors too frequently as warm air will enter the cabinet and cause the compressor to switch on unnecessarily often.
  6. Keep the covers of the different temperature compartments (crisper, chiller ...etc) closed
  7. Door gasket must be clean and pliable. Replace gaskets if worn.
