How do I adjust the temperature?

How do I defrost the freezer?

Disposal

Old appliances still have some residual value. An environmentally friendly method of disposal will ensure that valuable raw materials can be recovered and used again. Introducing Your New Fridge Freezer

Before use

Please read these instructions carefully before using your new Matsui appliance. The appliance is for indoor, domestic use only.

Install Your New Fridge Freezer

Location

When selecting a position to place your appliance you should make sure that the floor is flat and firm, and the room well ventilated. Avoid localing your appliance near a heat source, e.g. Cooker, boiler or radiator. Also avoid direct sunlight in outbuildings or sun lounges. It must therefore be installed so that the appliance has at least 10cm (2 1/2") of free space and the sides have 2cm (3/4"). The appliance door can either open to the right or the left, depending on whichever suits you. See page 5 if you want to reverse the door swing. Do not drape your appliance with any covering.

Moving the Appliance

Your Fridge Freezer has two wheels at the rear. The easiest way to move the Fridge Freezer is to tip it backwards just far enough to lift the front feet off the ground and roll it into position.

Levelling the Fridge Freezer

Remove the packaging support from the base of the appliance and replace with the 2 Levelling Feet. Make sure the appliance is level. Use the Levelling Feet at the front. If the appliance is not level, the doors and magnetic seal alignments will be affected.

Cleaning before use

Wipe the inside of the appliance with a weak solution of bicarbonate soda. Then rinse with warm water using a damp sponge or cloth. Wash the baskets and shelves in warm soapy water and dry completely before replacing in the Fridge. The external parts of the Fridge can be cleaned with wax polish. If you require more information refer to Cleaning on page 9.

Before plugging in YOU MUST

Check that you have a socket which is compatible with the plug supplied with the appliance.

Before switching on!

DO NOT SWITCH ON UNTIL TWO HOURS AFTER MOVING THE APPLIANCE.

The coolant fluid needs time to settle.

Please Note: The Ice cube tray is for ice only and not for freezing food.

Reverse the door swing

• Ensure the appliance is unplugged and empty. Adjust the two levelling feet to their highest position.

Note: To take the door off, it is necessary to tilt the appliance backward. You should rest the Freezer on something solid and place something under the rollers so that it will not slip during the door change process.

DO NOT lay the appliance completely flat as this may damage the coolant system.

Important: Double check that door is aligned correctly and all the seals are closed on all sides. If necessary, re-adjust the leveling feet.

Getting Started

Switching on your Fridge Freezer

1 Before connecting the appliance to the mains supply make sure that the thermostat control dial is set at position Off. This is located on the upper part of the Fridge.
2 Turn the thermostat knob clockwise to set it to the desired position, bear in mind that the higher the number, the colder the temperature.
3 To ensure that the appliance is cool enough to sufficiently chill your food wait 24 hours before filling it with food.

Adjusting the temperature

The internal temperature of your appliance is controlled by a thermostat. Position 7 makes the appliance coldest. Position 1 makes it warmest and Off turns the appliance Off. The recommended setting for the appliance is between 1 and 4 for colder working environments (ie. During Winter) and 4-6 for hotter environments. The temperature of the appliance may not operate at the correct temperature if it is in a particularly hot or cold room or if you open the appliance door often.

Noises inside the Fridge Freezer

If you have not owned this type of appliance before, you may notice that it makes some rather unusual noises. Most of these are Perfectly normal, but you should be aware of them!

GURGLING, WHOOSHING

These noises are caused by the circulation of the refrigerant liquid in the cooling system. It has become more pronounced since the introduction of CFC free gases. This is not a fault and will not affect the performance of your appliance.

HUMMING, PURRING OR PULSATING

This is the compressor motor working, as it pumps the refrigerant around the system.

Is the Fridge Freezer cold enough?

If you are at all concerned that your appliance is not being kept cold enough, or you occasionally wish to check the temperature, you can purchase a Fridge/Freezer thermometer. These are available from most supermarkets and hardware shops. Place the thermometer in the coldest part of your appliance (located at the back of the fridge, below the shelf), where it can be read easily. Leave overnight, the correct temperature should be between 0° C and 5° C. See 'Adjusting the temperature'.

Shopping for chilled foods

Don't buy it in your lunch hour!

Unless you have a appliance at work to keep the food cold in the afternoon. Leaving food in your car or at room temperature for a prolonged period of time could raise food temperature to dangerous level allowing harmful bacteria to grow.

Keep chilled foods together

Try to keep chilled food together whilst shopping and on the journey home as this will help to keep the food cooler.

Use a cool bag

Special insulated bags can be bought from most supermarkets and hardware shops. These keep food cold for longer, but are only for getting chilled foods home, not storing it.

Unwrap as soon as you get home

Always unpack and place chilled foods in the appliance before storing dry food stuffs.

Tips for keeping food perfect in the Fridge Freezer

Take extra care with meat and fish

Cooked meats should always be stored on a shelf above raw meats to avoid bacterial transfer. Keep raw meats on a plate which is large enough to collect juices and cover it with ding film or foil.

Leave space around food

This allows cold air to circulate around the appliance, ensuring all parts of the appliance are kept cool.

Wrap up food!

To prevent transfer of flavours and drying out, food should be separately packed or covered. Fruit and vegetables need not be wrapped.

Pre-cooked food should be cooled properly

Always let pre-cooked food cool down before you put it in the appliance. This will stop the internal temperature of the appliance from rising.

Shut the door!

To prevent cold air escaping, try to limit the number of times you open the door. When returning from shopping, sort foods to be kept in your appliance while the door is closed and only open it to put food in or take food out.

NOTE: ALWAYS WRAP AND STORE RAW MEAT, POULTRY AND FISH ON THE LOWEST SHELF AT THE BOTTOM OF THE APPLIANCE. THIS WILL STOP THEM DRIPPING ONTO, OR TOUCHING OTHER FOODS. DO NOT STORE INFLAMMABLE GASES OR LIQUIDS IN THE APPLIANCE.

Using Your Freezer

Shopping for frozen foods

Your Freezer is 4 star

When you are buying frozen food, look at the Storage Guidelines on the packaging. You will be able to store each item of frozen food for the period shown against the 4 star rating. This is usually the period stated as Best Before, on the front of the packaging. The capacity of the 4 star freezing compartment is 55L. The compartment is capable of freezing a maximum fresh food load of 3.5kg in 24 hours.

Check the Freezer temperature

Check the temperature of the frozen food cabinet in the shop where you buy your frozen food. It should show a temperature lower than -18° C.

Choose packs carefully

Take a quick look at the frozen food package and make sure it is in perfect condition.

Purchase frozen food last

Always buy frozen products last on your shopping trip or visit to the supermarket.

Keep frozen foods together

When you are going around the supermarket and when you are travelling home, if you keep all the frozen foods together they will help to keep each other cold.

Store food straight away

Don't buy frozen food unless you can freezer it straight away. Special insulated bags can be bought from most supermarkets and hardware shops. These keep frozen food cold for longer.

Thawing frozen food

For some foods, thawing before cooking is unnecessary. Vegetables and pasta can be added directly to boiling water or steam cooked. Frozen sauces and soups can be put into a saucepan and heated gently until thawed.

To Thaw frozen foods

1. Cover food loosely.
2. Thaw at room temperature. Don t forget that thawing in a warm area encourages the growth of bacteria.
3. Always make sure there are no ice crystals in the food before cooking, particularly with meat. These crystals indicate that the food is not fully thawed. They result in lower temperatures when cooking. Lower cooking temperatures may not destroy dangerous bacteria.
4. Cook food as soon as possible after thawing.
5. Drain off and throw away any liquid lost during thawing.

Oven thawing frozen foods

Many microwaves and ovens have thaw settings. To avoid bacterial build up, only u e these if you intend to cook the food immediately afterwards.

Safety tips

• Never re-freeze anything that has thawed out unless you cook it again, to kill off harmful bacteria.
• Never re-freeze thawed shellfish.

Useful tips

- Re-seal packs properly after removing items. This prevents drying or freezer burn and a build up of frost on any remaining food.

Purchase frozen food last

Useful tips

Use quality food and handle it as little as possible. Freeze food in small quantities, it freezes faster, takes less time to thaw and enable you to eat it in the quantity you need.

Bananas, Pomegranates, Pears or Carbonated liquids.

Cleaning

Cleaning the outside of the Fridge Freezer

Use standard furniture polish to clean the Appliance Exterior.

Make sure that the door is closed, preventing polish getting on the magnetic door seal or inside on to the food. Do not use harsh cleaners, scouring pads or solvents to clean any part of your appliance, as this may scratch the enamel.

Cleaning the inside of the Fridge Freezer

Make sure that the Fridge Freezer has been turned off at the mains before cleaning. The inside of the Fridge Freezer can be cleaned with a weak solution of bicarbonate of soda. Rinse with a damp sponge and wipe dry. Reconnect to the mains supply.

Cleaning tips

Clean when food stocks are low.

NOTE: Do not use harsh cleaners, scouring pads or solvents to clean any part of the appliance.

Defrosting

Your Fridge Freezer is frost free, and the ice build in will normally defrost automatically. However, if the freezer door is left open for a period of time, ice may build in he freezer compartment. Temporarily this can be scraped away using a plastic scraper. NEVER use a metal or sharp instrument. Complete defrosting will however become necessary if the frost layer exceeds 5cm (2") to maintain the efficiency. This should be carried out if the frost build up cannot be scraped away, or if it begins to interfere with the food storage. Choose a time when the stock of food is low and proceed as follows:

1. Take out the chilled food, turn the Fridge Freezer off at the mains supply and leave the door open. Ideally the chilled food should be put into another refrigerator. If this is not possible wrap the food, in several sheets of newspaper or large towels and keep it in a cool place.
2. Scrape away as much frost build up as possible using a plastic scraper. Thawing of the remainder can be speeded up by placing bowls of hot water inside the Fridge cabinet and closing the door. As the solid frost loosens, prize it away with the plastic scraper and remove.
3. When defrosting is completed, clean the Fridge Freezer as described in the previous column.

Maintenance

Levelling the Fridge Freezer

Make sure the appliance is level. Use the rotating levelling feet at the front. If the appliance is not level, the doors and magnetic seal alignments will be affected and may cause you appliance to work incorrectly.

Do Not Turn on the Fridge Freezer for 2 Hours

After the appliance has been placed it needs to be left for 2 hours. This allows time for the coolant to settle.

Servicing

Repairs and maintenance of the appliance should only be performed by an authorised, qualified technician.

The Fridge Freezer is not working

• Check it is plugged in and switched on.
• Check that the fuse in the plug has not blown.
• Plug in another appliance, such as a lamp, to see if the socket is working.

Condensation appears on the outside of the Fridge Freezer

This may be due to a change in the room temperature. Wipe off any residue of moisture. If the problem continues contact the local store where you purchased your appliance.

Noises

You may hear some unusual noises from time to time. See 'Noises inside the Fridge Freezer' on page 6. However if your appliance begins to make noises you have not heard before call the Authorized Service Agent.

If you are not able to identify and eliminate the faults according to the above recommendations, contact the Authorized Service Agent, advising of model number of the appliance which is shown on the back of the rating plate.

Do not attempt to repair your appliance yourself as it might endanger you and others.

Care when handling

Hold the appliance around its sides or base when moving it. Under no circumstance should it be lifted by holding the edges of the Top surface.

Location

Replacing the bulb

Ensure the appliance is unplugged and disconnect from the mains supply.

Remove the bulb cover and unscrew the bulb in anticlockwise direction.

Replace the bulb with a new one rated 10W.

Replace the cover and reconnect the appliance to the mains supply.
