How do I connect my phone via Bluetooth?

Press the Source button repeatedly until 'BT' appears on the display. On your phone, enable Bluetooth and select 'Sandstrøm SHBTDAB14' from the list. If prompted, enter '0000' as PIN.

How do I set the alarm?

Press and hold the Alarm button. Use the Tuning Up/Down buttons to set the hour, press Alarm again to set minutes, then choose the source (Buzzer, Radio, or CD). Press Alarm to confirm.

How do I tune FM/DAB radio stations?

Press Source to select FM or DAB. For FM, press Auto Tune to scan. For DAB, press Auto Tune to perform a full scan. Use Tuning Up/Down to browse saved stations.

Why is there no sound?

Check that the volume is not muted (Mute button) or turned down. Ensure the correct source is selected. Verify that headphones are not plugged in. If using Bluetooth, check that the device is connected.

How do I reset the system to factory settings?

Press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds until the display shows 'RESET'. Alternatively, disconnect the AC power cord, wait 10 seconds, and reconnect.

My CD is not reading; what should I do?

Ensure the CD is placed with the label facing up. Try a different CD to rule out disc damage. If the disc is dirty, wipe it gently from the center outward. If the issue persists, the lens may be dirty; use a CD lens cleaner.

Can I play music from a USB drive?

Yes, connect a USB drive with MP3 files to the USB port. Press Source until 'USB' is selected. Use Play/Pause to start playback and Tuning Up/Down to skip tracks.

How do I improve radio reception?

Extend the telescopic antenna fully for DAB/FM. For FM, try repositioning the wire antenna. Keep the system away from other electronic devices that may cause interference.

How should I clean the system?

Turn off and unplug the system. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use any liquids, sprays, or abrasive cleaners. For the display, gently wipe with a microfiber cloth.

The remote control is not working; what can I do?

Replace the batteries (CR2025) with new ones. Ensure there are no obstacles between the remote and the system (max range 5m). Point the remote directly at the sensor on the front panel.

Safety Warnings

• Read all the instructions carefully before using the unit and keep them for future reference.
• Retain the manual. If you pass the unit onto a third party make sure to include this manual.
• Check that the voltage marked on the rating label matches your mains voltage.

Damage

• Please inspect the unit for damage after unpacking.
• Do not continue to operate the unit if you are in any doubt about it working normally, or if it is damaged in any way - switch off, withdraw the mains plug and consult your dealer.

Location of Unit

• The unit must be placed on a flat stable surface and should not be subjected to vibrations.
• Do not place the unit on sloped or unstable surfaces as the unit may fall off or tip over.
• The mains socket must be located near the unit and should be easily accessible.
• This unit is designed for indoor, domestic use only

Temperature

• Avoid extreme degrees of temperature, either hot or cold. Place the unit well away from heat sources such as radiators or gas/electric fires.
• Avoid exposure to direct sunlight and other sources of heat.

Naked Flames

- Never place any type of candle or naked flame on the top of or near the unit.

Moisture

• To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or product damage, do not expose this unit to rain, moisture, dripping or splashing. No objects filled with liquids, such as vases, should be placed on the unit.
• If you spill any liquid into the unit, it can cause serious damage. Switch it off at the mains immediately. Withdraw the mains plug and consult your dealer.

Ventilation

• To prevent the risk of electric shock or fire hazard due to overheating, ensure that curtains and other materials do not obstruct the ventilation vents.
• Do not install or place this unit in a bookcase, built-in cabinet or in another confined space. Ensure the unit is well ventilated.

Safety

• Always disconnect the unit from the mains supply before connecting/ disconnecting other devices or moving the unit.
• Unplug the unit from the mains socket before a lightning storm.

Mains Cable

• Make sure the unit or unit stand is not resting on top of the mains cable, as the weight of the unit may damage the mains cable and create a safety hazard.
• If the mains cable is damaged it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

Earphones

• Listening to loud sounds for prolonged periods of time may permanently damage your hearing.
• Before putting on earphones, turn the volume down then put the earphones on and slowly increase the volume until you reach a comfortable listening level.

Interference

- Do not place the unit on or near appliances which may cause electromagnetic interference. If you do, it may adversely affect the operating performance of the unit, and cause a distorted picture or sound.

Standby

- The ON/STANDBY button on the remote control does not switch off the unit completely. The unit will continue to draw electricity from the mains supply while in standby. In the interests of safety and to avoid unnecessary energy consumption, never leave the unit in standby while unattended for long periods of time, e.g. overnight, while on holiday or while out of the house. Switch it off and disconnect the mains plug from the mains socket.

Batteries

• Batteries used in the remote control for this unit are easily swallowed by young children and this is dangerous.
• Keep loose batteries away from young children and make sure that the battery holder tray is secure in the remote control. Seek medical advice if you believe a cell has been swallowed.
• Please dispose of batteries correctly by following the guidance in this manual.

Supervision

• Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the unit and the remote control.
• Never let anyone especially children push anything into the holes, slots or any other openings in the case - this could result in a fatal electric shock.

Service

• To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove screws. The unit does not contain any user-serviceable parts. Please leave all maintenance work to qualified personnel.
• Do not open any fixed covers as this may expose dangerous voltages.

Maintenance

• Ensure the unit is fully unplugged from the power supply before cleaning.
• Do not use any type of abrasive pad or abrasive cleaning solutions as these may damage the unit's surface.

Operating Your Remote Control

1. Press and hold the button at the back of the remote control to open the back cover.

Handling the Battery

• Improper or incorrect use of batteries may cause corrosion or battery leakage, which could cause fire, personal injury or damage to property.
• Install the battery correctly by following the polarity (+ and -) indications in the battery compartment.
• When the battery is exhausted, the remote control will not function.
  • Only use the battery type indicated in this manual.
• Do not dispose of the used battery as domestic waste. Dispose of it in accordance with local regulations.
• Small button cell batteries such as the one used in the remote control are easily swallowed by young children, this is dangerous. Keep loose button cells away from young children and make sure that the battery holder tray is secure in the remote control. Seek medical advice if you believe a cell has been swallowed.
  • Do not expose the batteries to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like.

Handling the Remote Control

• Do not drop the remote control or allow it to suffer any impact.
• Do not spill water or liquid on the remote control.
• Do not place the remote control on a wet object.
- Do not place the remote control under direct sunlight or near sources of excessive heat.
- Remove the battery from the remote control when not in use for a long period of time, as the battery could leak or cause corrosion, which may result in physical injury and/or property damage, including fire.

Remote Control Operation Range

Point the remote control to the unit no more than 6 meters from the remote control sensor and within 60^ horizontally and 20^ vertically of the front of the unit. The operating distance may vary according to the brightness of the room.

• Make sure that there is no obstacle between the infrared remote sensor of the unit and remote control. If you install the unit on rack, etc., the remote controllable range may decrease depending on the thickness or colour of glass door of rack.
• Do not expose the infrared remote sensor to direct sunlight or other strong light, such as inverter fluorescent light.

Connections

1. Connecting the DAB/FM Aerial

Connect the supplied FM/DAB Antenna to the FM/DAB Antenna socket on the rear of the unit by turning the Antenna screw cap clockwise.

• Do not overtighten, this could damage the Antenna.
• To avoid noise, keep Antenna away from the unit, the connecting cables and the mains cable.

2. Speaker Connections

Connect the speaker cords between the terminals as shown below.

Connect the cable with a sliver head to the (−) terminals and cable with a gold head to the (+) terminals.

How to connect

• Turn the terminal cap counterclockwise to loosen it. The speaker terminal caps cannot be fully removed from the base.
• Insert the wire into the terminal fully.
  • Turn the terminal cap clockwise to securely connect it.

3. Connecting Auxiliary Equipment

Connect the AUX IN terminals on the rear of the unit to the AUX output terminals on the auxiliary equipment with an audio cable illustrated below.

• Turn the SOURCE dial on the unit or press the AUX button on the remote control to select the AUX source.
  • Start play on the audio player

Connect the AUDIO IN jack on the front of the unit to the headphone jack on an external device with an audio cable illustrated below.

• Turn the SOURCE dial on the unit or press the AUDIO IN button on the remote control to select the AUDIO IN source.
  • Start to play the device. (See the device user manual)

4. Connecting to the Mains Supply

Connect the AC\~ socket on the main unit to power plug to the wall outlet with the mains cable.

• Be sure to unplug the power plug from the wall outlet when going out or when the unit is not in use for an extended period of time.
• Use the mains cable as the disconnect device. The disconnect device shall remain readily operable.

ECO-Power/Standby Features

Switching ON / OFF

When you first connect the unit to the AC power, the unit will be in standby mode.

• Press the ⏻ standby button to switch the unit on. The word "HELLO" will show in the display. A countdown of 10 seconds starts for preheating of the system. Then, the system will switch to the last selected source.
• Press the Standby button to switch the unit back to standby mode. The words "BYE BYE" will show in the display.

Switching the system to ECO Power/Standby mode

Press and hold the standby button for 2 seconds or more to switch to ECO Power Standby or normal standby.

• ECO Power standby mode

The clock will not be displayed. Press the CLOCK button to display the clock on the LCD display (if set).

• Normal standby mode

The clock (if set) display on the LCD display.

Setting the Clock

Setting the Clock Manually

1. In standby mode, press and hold the CLOCK button to activate the clock setting mode, "24" begins to blink on the LCD display.
2. Set the 12/24 hour format with the + / - buttons.
3. Press the CLOCK button, hour indicator will blink.
4. Set the hour with the + / - buttons.
5. Press the CLOCK button, minute indicator will blink.
6. Set the minute with the + / - buttons.
7. Press the CLOCK button, the built-in clock starts operating.

• To exit clock setting mode without storing, press the button.
- If no button is pressed in 90 seconds, the unit exits clock setting mode automatically.
- If a power failure occurs or the unit is disconnected from the mains, the clock setting will be lost.

Setting the Clock Automatically

In DAB/RDS station, the unit can synchronize with time transmitted by DAB/RDS station (with CT information) automatically.

Display the Clock

In any source mode, the built-in clock shows the time on the display by press the CLOCK button.

Synchronising the Clock with DAB radio

Press and hold the INFO button. Press ◀◀ /▶▶I buttons on the unit to select AUTO SYNC or MANUAL SYNC.

Sound Quality

Adjusting the Volume

To increase or decrease the volume, turn the -VOLUME + dial on the unit or press the +/ - buttons on the remote control.

Mute sound

During play, press the button to mute or unmute sound.

Adjusting the Bass

Turn the -BASS + dial on the unit to adjust the intensity of the bass output sound.

- Bass adjusted, preset equalizer function is not available.

Adjusting the Treble

Turn the - TREBLE + dial on the unit to adjust the intensity of the bass output sound.

- Treble adjusted, preset equalizer function is not available.

Preset Equalizer

You can adjust the sound reproduced simply by choosing from 5 preset equalizers.

During play, press the EQ button on the remote control repeatedly to select:

Changing the Front Panel Darkness

To dim or brighten the display, press the DIM button repeatedly on the remote control to the desired brightness.

Be sure to unplug the power plug from the wall outlet when going out or when the unit is not in use for an extended period of time.

Store DAB radio stations automatically

1. Turn the SOURCE dial on the unit or repeatedly press the FM/DAB button on the remote control to select DAB source. The word "DAB" will be displayed on the LCD display.

2. Press the SCAN button on the remote control to activate automatic program mode.

3. "SCANNING" is displayed.
   • All available stations are programmed.
   • The first programmed radio station is broadcast automatically.

Store DAB radio stations manually

1. Tune to a radio station.
2. Press the PROGRAM button on the remote control to activate program mode.

• The preset number will blink.

1. Press the PRESET ▲ buttons on the remote control to allocate a number to this radio station.

- If you select more than 30, the preset number will be changed to "1" automatically.

1. Press the PROGRAM button on the remote control again to store the station.
2. Repeat above steps 1 to 4 for each station you want to store in memory with a preset number.

Tuning to a DAB radio station

Repeatedly press the ◀◀/▶▶ buttons to change the frequency until you find the station you want.

Tuning to Preset DAB Stations

- Press the PRESET ▲ /▼ buttons on the remote control until the desired preset station is displayed.

The unit will tune to the selected station automatically.

DAB Information Display

You can view the DAB service information in the following modes. Depending on the DAB radio station you are tuning to, some information modes may be unavailable. Repeatedly press the INFO button on the remote control to view the following information.

Station Name

When an RDS station is received, the name of that station will be displayed.

Ensemble Name

This displays the name of the multiplex that contains the station you are listening to. A multiplex is a collection of radio stations that are bundled and transmitted on one frequency. There are national and local multiplexes. Local ones contain stations that are specific to that area.

DAB – unlike normal radio, groups together several radio stations and transmits them on one frequency.

Clock / Date

This displays the current time and date provided automatically by the broadcaster.

DLS (Dynamic Label Segment)

Dynamic label segment is a scrolling message that the broadcaster may include with their transmissions. The message usually includes information, such as programme details etc.

Signal Strength

This shows a slide bar to indicate the signal strength, the stronger the signal, the longer the bar will be from left to right.

Programme Type

This describes the "style" or "genre" of the programme that is being broadcast.

Frequency

This shows the frequency of the current station.

Audio Bit Rate

The display will show the digital audio bit rate being received.

Stereo/Mono

The display will show if the station being received is in mono or stereo.

FM Radio Operation

• Make sure that you have correctly connected and fully extended the antenna.

• You can program a maximum of 20 FM radio stations.

Tuning in a Station

1. Turn the SOURCE dial on the unit or repeatedly press the FM/DAB button on the remote control to select the tuner source.
2. Select a station using one of the following methods.

- Auto Tuning

Press and hold the ◀◀/▶▶ buttons for one second or more, the frequency changes down or up automatically until a station is found.

- Manual Tuning

Repeatedly press the ◀◀/▶▶I buttons to change the frequency until you find the station you want.

- Preset Tuning (Available only after the stations are preset)

Repeatedly press the PRESET ▲/ ▼buttons on the remote control to select the desired preset number. Its band and frequency are displayed on the front panel.

Program radio stations

• Automatically

Press and hold the PROGRAM button on the remote control for 2 second or more to activate automatic program mode.

• "SCANNING" is displayed.
• All available stations are programmed.
• The first programmed radio station is broadcast automatically.

- Manually

1. Tune to a radio station.
2. Press the PROGRAM button on the remote control to activate program mode.

• The preset number will blink.

1. Press the PRESET /▲buttons on the remote control to allocate a number to this radio station.

If you select more than 20, the preset number will be changed to "1" automatically.

1. Press the PROGRAM button on the remote control again to store the station.
2. Repeat above steps 1 to 4 for each station you want to store in memory with a preset number.

If the system is unplugged or if a power failure occurs, the preset stations will not be erased.

RDS (Radio Data System) Reception

Many FM stations are broadcasting added data compatible with RDS (Radio Data System). This radio set offers convenient functions using such data.

Repeatedly press the INFO button on the remote control to select the information that displayed as follows.

- Station Name

When an RDS station is received, the "RDS" and the name of that station will be displayed.

• PTY (Programme Type)

This describes the "Style" or "genre" of music that is being broadcast e.g. "Rock" or "Classical".

- Time

The broadcaster (Radio station) provides clock and date information automatically so there's no need to manually set this information.

- Text

The broadcaster can include a scrolling text that displays information about the current program.

- Frequency

This shows the frequency of the current station e.g. 95.30MHz.

Some recorded files may not be able to be played due to the type and format of disc or condition of the recording.

CD Playing

1. Turn the SOURCE dial on the unit or repeatedly press the CD/USB button on the remote control to select the disc source.
2. Press the Button on the unit to open the disc door and place the disc on the disc tray (with the printed side up).
3. Press the ▲button on the unit to close the disc door, the unit will read the disc and play it automatically.

If in stop mode, please press the ▶ button to start playing the disc.

1. Press the button to temporarily stop the playing, press the button again, it will continue to play.
2. Press the Button to stop the disc playing.

To Skip Search or Search and Play

• Press the ◄◀buttons once or more to skip previous/forward one or more tracks on the disc.
• Press the I◀buttons to search for the position that you intend to start playing. Release to resume normal play.

Program Play

You can programme up to 20 tracks to play in any desired order. The player must be in stop mode only with a CD inserted.

1. Insert a disc and press the ■ button when it starts playing.
2. Press the PROGRAM button on the remote control the LCD display will display "001 p--01" and "PROG".
3. Press the ◀◀/▶buttons to select the desired track number.
4. Press the PROGRAM button on the remote control to confirm the track number to be stored.
5. Repeat steps 3-4 to select and store all desired tracks.
6. Press the button to start program play.
7. Press the button once to stop the program play. Press the button twice to clear programme.

Playing Repeatedly (CD disc)

• ONE and ALL Repeat Play can be set by pressing the mode button (REPEAT/SHUFFLE).

First press : To repeat the same track, the words "TRK" will blink and "REP" will stay lit.

Second press : To repeat playing all tracks on a disc, the words "TRK" and "REP ALL" will stay lit.

Third press : To play tracks randomly, the words "TRK" and "SHUF" will stay lit.

Fourth press : To cancel the repeat playing, the word "TRK" will stay lit.

- Repeat A-B can be set by pressing the repeat A-B button (A-B).

First press : Select the start point, the words "REP A-" will stay lit.

Second press : Select the end point, the words "REP A-B" will stay lit.

Third press : To cancel repeat play, the word "REP A-B" will disappear.

Text Display During Playback (CD disc)

Repeatedly press the INFO button on the remote control to show the current track number and single elapsed time or single remain time or total elapsed time or total remain time.

MP3 Disc Playing

MP3/WMA music playback from CD maybe be affected due to the type and format of disc or condition of the recording. If you are having trouble playing a certain disc, it is recommended to use USB input instead for best MP3/WMA playback.

1. Turn the SOURCE dial on the unit or repeatedly press the CD/USB button on the remote control to select the disc source.
2. Press the Button on the unit to open the disc door and place the MP3/WMA disc on the disc tray (with the printed side up).
3. 1. Press the button on the unit to close the disc door, the unit will read the disc and play it automatically.

If in stop mode, please press the ▶ button to start playing the disc.

1. Press the button to temporarily stop the playing, press the button again, it will continue to play.

2. Press the ■ button to stop the disc playing.

Text Display During Playback (MP3/WMA discs)

• If playing file contains the ID3 information, when start playing, the file name will be scroll on the screen automatically.
• If playing file is no ID3 information, press the INFO button on the remote control, the current track and track of time will be displayed.
• Press the INFO button on the remote control to enter or exit the ID3 playing mode.

To Select Album

• Press the ALBUM ▲ /▼ buttons on the remote control to select the next/previous album, and play the first track of this album.
• If the playing has ended, press the ALBUM ▲ /▼ buttons on the remote control to select the next/previous album.

Playing Repeatedly (MP3/WMA disc)

• ONE and ALL Repeat Play can be set by pressing the mode button (REPEAT/SHUFFLE).

First press : To repeat the same track, the words "TRK" will blink and "REP" will stay lit.

Second press : To repeat playing album, the words "ALB" will blink and "TRK", "REP ALL" will stay lit.

Third press : To repeat playing all tracks on a disc, the words "TRK" and "REP ALL" will stay lit.

Fourth press : To play tracks randomly, the words "TRK" and "SHUF" will stay lit.

Fifth press : To cancel the repeat playing, the word "TRK" will stay lit.

- Repeat A-B can be set by pressing the repeat A-B button (A-B).

First press : Select the start point, the words "REP A-" will stay lit.

Second press : Select the end point, the words "REP A-B" will stay lit.

Third press : To cancel repeat play, the word "REP A-B" will disappear.

Using the USB

By connecting a USB mass storage device (including USB flash memory, USB flash players or memory cards) to this unit, you can enjoy the device's stored music through the unit.

1. Insert the USB device's USB plug into the socket on the rear of unit.
2. Turn the SOURCE dial on the unit or repeatedly press the CD/USB button on the remote control to select the USB source.
3. Press the ALBUM ▲ buttons on the remote control to select a folder.
4. Press the ◀◀/▶buttons to select a file.
5. Press the ▶ button to start play.

The player supports the USB music file format of MP3, WMA only.

For devices with a USB cable:

1. Insert one plug of the USB cable (not supplied) to the socket on the unit.
2. Insert the other plug of the USB cable to the USB output terminal of the USB device.

For memory cards:

1. Insert the memory card into a card reader (not supplied).
2. Use a USB cable (not supplied) to connect the card reader into the socket on the unit.

Play from Bluetooth device

The unit has a Bluetooth function that can receive a signal within 10 metres.

Pairing the unit with a Bluetooth device to listen to music:

1. Turn the SOURCE dial on the unit or directly press the button on the remote control to select the Bluetooth source.
2. Activate your Bluetooth device and select the search mode.
3. "SHBTDAB14" will appear on your Bluetooth device.
4. Select "SHBTDAB14" and enter "0000" for the password if necessary.
5. Start music play on your Bluetooth device, you can use this unit to control the function to your Bluetooth device.

• To pause/resume play, pres.
• To skip to a track, press ◀◀/▶▶
• To increase or decrease the volume, press + / - .

- If the signal strength is weak, your Bluetooth receiver may disconnect, but it will re-enter pairing mode automatically.

• This unit supports A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile).

Connect to a Bluetooth accessories using NFC

Tap the NFC area of the accessory with the NFC area of your device, and follow the instructions on the screen.

Disconnect the accessory

Tap the NFC area of the accessory again.

Setting the Sleep Timer

Use the sleep timer to turn the unit off after a certain number of minutes when in play mode. By setting the sleep timer, you can fall asleep to music and know that your unit will turn off by itself rather than play all night.

When the unit is turned on, repeatedly press the SLEEP button on the remote control to select a set period of time (in minutes):

• SLEEP 120

• SLEEP 60

• SLEEP 30

• SLEEP 90

• SLEEP 45

• SLEEP 15

When sleep timer is activated, the "SLEEP" is displayed.

To deactivate sleep timer

Press the SLEEP button repeatedly until "SLEEP OFF" is displayed.

When sleep timer is deactivated, the "SLEEP" is disappears.

Setting the Daily on Timer

You can use the setting timer to make the unit automatically turn on at a certain time everyday from standby. When the setting timer is on, the timer indicator 📞 will be displayed. But the clock must be correctly set for the timer to operate correctly.

1. In standby mode, press and hold the TIMER button on the remote control, until "TIMER SET" scrolls on the display.

• Then the source is displayed, e.g. DISC.

1. Repeatedly press the + / - buttons on the remote control to select a source.

2. Press the TIMER button, the hour indicator will blink.

3. Set the hour with the + / - buttons on the remote control.

4. Press the TIMER button, the minute indicator will blink.

5. Repeat above steps 4-5 to set the minute.

6. Repeat above steps 4-5 to set the alarm volume.

To deactivate or re-activate an alarm timer

In standby mode, press the TIMER button to activate or deactivate timer.

• If timer is activated, "©" is displayed.

• If timer is deactivated, “◎” is disappeared.

• To exit timer setting mode without storing, press the button.
- If no button is pressed in 90 seconds, the unit exits clock setting mode automatically.
- If disc/USB source is selected and the audio cannot be played, TUNER is activated automatically.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Unit

Ensure the unit is fully unplugged from the mains socket before cleaning.

• To clean the unit, wipe the case with a slightly moist, lint-free cloth.
- Do not use any cleaning fluids containing alcohol, ammonia or abrasives.
• Do not spray an aerosol at or near the unit.

Handling Discs

• Do not touch the playback side of the disc.
• Do not attach paper or tape to the disc.

Cleaning Discs

• Fingerprints and dust on the disc cause picture and sound deterioration. Wipe the disc from the centre outwards with a soft cloth. Always keep the disc clean.
• If you cannot wipe off the dust with a soft cloth, wipe the disc lightly with a slightly moistened cloth and finish with a dry cloth.
• Do not use any type of solvent such as thinner, benzine, commercially available cleaners or antistatic spray. They may damage the disc.

Storing Discs

• Do not store discs in places subjected to direct sunlight or near heat sources.
- Do not store discs in places subjected to moisture and dust such as a bathroom or near a humidifier.
- Storing discs vertically in a case, stacking discs or placing objects on discs outside of their cases may cause warping.

If the unit is not working properly disconnect the power source and then reconnect it.
