Frequently Asked Questions - F5U257B BELKIN

How do I set up the Belkin F5U257B hub?
Simply connect the hub to an available USB port on your computer. It is plug-and-play and will be recognized automatically by Windows, Mac, and Linux without additional drivers.
Is the hub compatible with USB 3.0 devices?
The hub is USB 2.0, so it will work with USB 3.0 devices but only at USB 2.0 speeds (up to 480 Mbps). For full USB 3.0 speeds, a USB 3.0 hub is required.
Does the hub require external power?
No, it is bus-powered, meaning it draws power from your computer's USB port. It can power most low-power devices like mice, keyboards, and flash drives. High-power devices may require a powered hub.
How many devices can I connect simultaneously?
You can connect up to 4 USB devices to the hub. However, the total power available is limited to 500 mA from the USB port, so high-power devices might not work simultaneously.
What operating systems are supported?
The hub is compatible with Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10, 11), Mac OS (10.x and later), and Linux. It does not require any special drivers.
The hub is not recognized by my computer. What should I do?
Try connecting the hub to a different USB port on your computer. If that doesn't work, check your device manager for driver issues or try restarting your computer. Ensure the USB port is functioning by testing with another USB device.
Can I use the hub with a USB extension cable?
Using a USB extension cable may cause connectivity issues due to signal degradation. It is recommended to connect the hub directly to your computer. If an extension is necessary, use a high-quality active extension cable.
Is the hub hot-swappable?
Yes, the hub supports hot-swapping, meaning you can connect and disconnect devices without turning off your computer. However, always safely eject storage devices before disconnecting to prevent data loss.
What does the LED indicator mean?
The LED indicator lights up when the hub is connected to power and data is flowing. It blinks or stays solid depending on activity. A steady light indicates the hub is powered and ready.
How do I clean the hub?
Unplug the hub before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use water, solvents, or abrasive cleaners. Keep the ports free of dust and debris.
