Frequently Asked Questions - MDS-MBP7S Xcellon

Which MacBook Pro models are compatible with the Xcellon MDS-MBP7S docking station?
The dock is designed for MacBook Pro models with USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 ports (2016 and later). It attaches to either side of the laptop.
Can I charge my MacBook Pro through the dock?
Yes, the Premium USB-C port supports Power Delivery pass-through. Connect your laptop charger to the dock's Premium USB-C port to charge your MacBook Pro while using the dock.
How many external monitors can I connect simultaneously?
You can connect a maximum of two monitors at once. One via HDMI (up to 4K @ 30Hz) and another via the Premium USB-C port (up to 5K @ 60Hz or dual 4K @ 60Hz).
Does the dock support SD and microSD cards at the same time?
Yes, both card readers can be used simultaneously. For proper orientation, insert the microSD card right-side up and the SD card upside down so their bottoms face each other.
What is the data transfer speed of the USB-C and USB-A ports?
The Premium USB-C port supports up to 40 Gbps. The Standard USB-C and USB-A ports support USB 3.1 speeds up to 5 Gbps.
Why is my headphone jack blocked when I attach the dock on the right side?
The dock is designed to be used on either side, but attaching it on the right side will physically block access to the MacBook Pro's headphone jack. Use the left side if you need headphone access.
What should I do if the dock isn't detected by my MacBook?
Ensure the dock is fully inserted. Try a different USB-C port on your MacBook. If using a case, remove it as it may interfere. Restart your MacBook. If the issue persists, check for macOS updates.
Can I use the USB-A ports to charge my phone or other devices?
No, the USB-A ports are non-charging data ports only. They cannot provide power to charge external devices.
Is the dock compatible with Windows laptops?
The dock is primarily designed for MacBook Pro but may work with USB-C Windows laptops that support DisplayPort Alt Mode and Power Delivery. However, full functionality is not guaranteed.
How should I clean and maintain the docking station?
Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the surface. Avoid using liquids or abrasive cleaners. Handle the dock with care and always insert/remove using two hands to prevent damage.
