Frequently Asked Questions - Voice Tracer VTR5101 PHILIPS

Why can't I start recording?
The most common cause is an empty battery. Recharge the device via USB or dedicated charger until the battery icon shows full. If the issue persists, ensure the memory has free space and the file count has not reached the maximum of 396 files across folders A-D.
Why can't I record even though the battery is full?
This may happen if the device storage is full or the maximum file number (396) has been reached. Delete or transfer some recordings to a computer. Also check that the recording folder is not full (each folder holds up to 99 files).
Why is playback not starting?
The most likely reason is a depleted battery. Recharge the device fully. If the battery is not the issue, try selecting a different file or folder. Ensure the file format is supported (MP3/WAV).
I can't hear any sound from the speaker during playback.
First, unplug any earphones from the headphone jack, as this automatically disables the speaker. Then adjust the volume by pressing the VOL button and using the up/down buttons. Make sure the volume is not set to minimum.
The device won't turn on. How can I fix it?
Try a hard reset: long press the A-B Replay button for about 8 seconds. This should restart the device. If that fails, ensure the battery is charged. Connect to a USB power source and check if the charging indicator lights up.
How do I charge the device?
Use the included USB cable to connect the device to a computer's USB port or a dedicated USB charger (5V, 0.5A). The charging indicator light turns orange during charging and turns off when fully charged. A full charge takes approximately 3 hours.
How can I change the recording quality?
In voice mode when stopped, press MENU to enter the menu and select Recording Type. Choose from PCM (high quality, WAV), N.R. (noise reduction), Stereo, Standard, or L.P. (long play, MP3). Press MENU to confirm.
How do I use A-B replay to repeat a section?
During playback, press the A-B Replay button to set point A. The screen will show A->B with B flashing. Then press the button again to set point B. The device will replay the section between A and B continuously (up to 5 times). Press the button once more to cancel.
How do I lock the keys to prevent accidental operation?
Slide the POWER button up to the lock position. A lock icon will appear on the screen. Only the Record button remains functional. To unlock, slide the POWER button back to the middle position.
How do I reset the device to factory default settings?
Go to Setting Mode by long pressing MENU from a stopped mode. Navigate to Default Setting and press MENU. Select Yes to confirm. This will restore all settings to original values but will not delete your recordings.
