Frequently Asked Questions - DT12 Atlas Sound

How do I install the DT12 speaker into a ceiling grid?
Cut a 12.25" opening in the acoustic tile. Remove the E.O. box cover, connect field wiring to the red (+) and black (-) leads using the included wire nuts, and set the tap selector switch for the desired power. Insert the DT12 into the grid with the tile support edge facing outward, then replace the cut tile section.
What power taps are available on the DT12?
For 25V and 70.7V systems, the available taps are 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 watts. There is also an 8Ω bypass setting for direct connection to an amplifier.
Can the DT12 be used with a standard home audio amplifier?
Yes, by setting the tap selector to the 8Ω bypass position, the DT12 can be used with a standard amplifier rated for 8Ω loads. The power handling is 4W continuous, but it can be used with higher power amplifiers as long as the volume is limited.
What is the frequency response of the DT12?
The frequency response is 85 Hz to 8 kHz with a tolerance of ±5 dB. It is designed for clear paging and background music rather than full-range reproduction.
Is the DT12 certified for fire safety?
Yes, the DT12 is certified to UL1480 and UL2043 standards, making it suitable for plenum spaces and fire-rated ceiling installations.
How do I clean the DT12 grille?
Use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe the grille. Do not use water, cleaning solvents, or abrasive materials, as they may damage the finish.
Can I daisy-chain multiple DT12 speakers?
Yes, the DT12 can be paralleled with other 70.7V/25V speakers. Ensure the total tap wattage does not exceed the amplifier's power rating. For example, four speakers set to 4W each would require a 16W amplifier output.
What type of conduit connection is required?
A UL recognized conduit clamp must be used for conduit connections. The wiring cavity is not intended to be a junction box, so all connections should be made in a separate box.
What is the dispersion angle of the DT12?
The dispersion is 105° at the 2 kHz octave band (-6 dB), providing wide coverage for paging and background music applications.
Is the DT12 available in colors other than white?
The standard color is white, which blends with most acoustic ceiling tiles. Custom colors may be available upon special order from Atlas Sound.
