Frequently Asked Questions - SEG-500 Steren

How do I set the digital code for the first time?
Open the safe using the manual key. With the door open, press the reset button inside (usually on the back of the door). Enter your new 3-8 digit code, followed by the # or lock button. Confirm by re-entering. Test with the door open before closing.
What do I do if I forget the electronic code?
You can override the lock using the two manual keys provided. To reset the code, open with the key and follow the programming steps again. If you lose both keys, contact Steren customer support for a replacement.
How often should I replace the batteries?
Replace the 4 AA batteries every 6-12 months, or when the low battery indicator (red light flashing or beeping) appears. Use fresh alkaline batteries for best performance.
Can I mount the safe to a wall or floor?
Yes, the SEG-500 has pre-drilled holes at the back and bottom. Use the included screws and anchors to secure it to a concrete wall or wooden floor. Always mount it before storing valuables for optimal security.
What should I do if the safe beeps continuously and won't open?
This usually indicates low batteries. Insert the manual key, turn to open, and replace the batteries. If the problem persists, check for jammed bolts or contact support. Do not force the door.
How many digits can I use for the PIN?
You can program a code of 3 to 8 digits. Longer codes increase security. Avoid using obvious sequences like 1234 or repeated numbers.
Is the safe fireproof or waterproof?
The SEG-500 is not fireproof or waterproof. It is designed for basic theft deterrence. For fire and water protection, consider a rated safe. Keep it away from extreme conditions.
Can I store a laptop or tablet inside?
Yes, the internal dimensions are approximately 11 x 7 x 5 inches, which can fit a 13-inch laptop or tablet. Check your device dimensions before storing. The removable shelf can be adjusted for height.
How do I clean the safe?
Wipe the exterior and interior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. For the keypad, use a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid getting moisture inside the battery compartment.
What is the warranty period and how to claim?
The safe comes with a 1-year limited warranty against defects. To claim, retain the original receipt and contact Steren support via their website or phone. Warranty covers manufacturing defects but not misuse, lost keys, or battery issues.
