Frequently Asked Questions - IC-605 Russound

What is the recommended amplifier power for the IC-605?

The IC-605 handles up to 60W RMS (120W peak). Use an amplifier with 20-80W per channel for best results.

Can the grille be painted to match my ceiling?

Yes, the grille is paintable. Remove the grille before painting, use thin coats, and ensure paint does not clog the perforations.

What size cutout is required for installation?

The required cutout diameter is 7.5 inches (191 mm). Use the included template for precise cutting.

Are these speakers suitable for outdoor use?

No, the IC-605 is designed for indoor ceiling installation only. Exposure to moisture or extreme temperatures may damage it.

How do I wire the speaker?

Connect the amplifier's positive wire to the red terminal and negative to the black terminal. Observe polarity for proper stereo imaging.

What is the frequency response of the IC-605?

The frequency response is 50 Hz to 20 kHz, providing balanced sound for music and home theater.

Can I use these speakers in a 70V system?

No, the IC-605 is an 8-ohm speaker for standard low-impedance systems. For 70V, use a transformer or Russound's AW series.

Does the tweeter pivot for directional sound?

Yes, the 1-inch tweeter can be angled up to 15° to direct sound towards the listening area.

What is the mounting depth required?

The minimum mounting depth is 3.6 inches (91 mm). Ensure ceiling cavity has enough clearance.

How do I clean the speaker?

Wipe the grille and frame with a soft dry cloth. Do not use water, solvents, or abrasive cleaners. Dust the cone gently.

Installation Instructions

Pre-wire or Pre-construction

Locate all obstructions (AC wiring, plumbing, duct work, studs, and joists). Route the speaker wire to the speaker location avoiding all obstacles.

Russound offers Speaker Rough-In Brackets that can be fastened to the adjacent studs. Once the dry wall is installed, the opening is cut-out. There are holes molded into the bracket for speaker wire tie-off to keep the wire from being lost during construction. Make sure the speaker cut-out (hole) doesn't extend further than 1/4" (0.6cm from the inside of the mounting bracket.

Retrofit Installation

Locate all existing pipes, duct work, and AC wiring before cutting any holes in the ceiling.

1. Center the cardboard template between adjacent joists, avoiding all wiring, pipes, duct work, and lightly mark the outline with a pencil. Then use a keyhole/drywall saw or motorized spiral-cut tool to make the opening. See Figure 3
2. Score the outline of the template with a utility knife to prevent chipping. If dealing with lath and plaster or thick paneling, drill 1" (2.5cm) holes in several places around the pencil outline. Use a fine-toothed keyhole saw or hacksaw blade with slow strokes to saw through and remove the inner surface. See Figure 3
3. Center the Speaker in the cutout. Rotate the frame as needed before tightening the screws. Tighten the screws equally until clamps secure the frame. Do not overtighten. See Figure 4

Attach Speaker Wire To Speakers

Attach the speaker wires to the red and black speaker terminals. Connect the Positive (+) conductor to the Red terminal and the Negative (-) conductor to the Black terminal. Make sure that no stray strands of wire are touching the other conductor or terminal. See Figure 5
