What is the recommended installation height for the Kelvinator KH60B1 range hood?

The bottom of the hood should be installed no less than 650 mm and no more than 750 mm above the stove's heating elements or burners.

Can the KH60B1 be used in ductless mode?

Yes, the range hood is convertible for ducted (vertical/horizontal) or ductless (recirculating) operation. For ductless use, you need to install charcoal filters (not included) and set the knob to ductless position.

How do I clean the grease filter?

Remove the metal grease filter and wash it with a solution of water and mild liquid detergent. Soak, rinse thoroughly, and let dry. It can also be washed in a dishwasher; slight color change is normal.

How often should I replace the charcoal filter?

Charcoal filters cannot be cleaned and must be replaced regularly. The manual recommends washing the metal filter every three months, but does not specify a period for charcoal filter replacement (typically every 3-6 months depending on usage).

What type of light bulbs does the KH60B1 use?

How do I switch between ducted and ductless mode?

Is it safe to use the hood with gas appliances?

Yes, but adequate ventilation of the room is required when using the hood simultaneously with gas or other fuel-burning appliances. The air must not be discharged into a flue used for exhausting fumes from such appliances.

What is the warranty on the KH60B1?

The warranty is 12 months from the date of purchase for domestic use. It covers defective material or faulty manufacture. Bulbs, filters, and parts subject to wear are not covered. The warranty is valid only in South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe.

Can I install the hood myself?

Selection of Venting Direction

Fully convertible for vertical, horizontal or ductless operation.

Information

The air must not be discharged into a flue that is used for exhausting fumes from appliances burning gas or other fuels. Regulations concerning the discharge of air have to be fulfilled.

Vertical discharge

Vertical is the most common. If you select this venting direction, you only need to open the ducting knockout A. Remove the ducting knockout by inserting a Flat head screwdriver under one end and prying it up. Then snip or break the attachment points by tin snips. You must make sure that the ducting knockout B is not removed.

Horizontal discharge

Assuming that the range hood is located against an outside wall, horizontal discharge is preferred provided that there are no obstructions such as, wall joists, or where openings are difficult to make. If you select this venting direction, you only need to open the ducting knockout B. Same with removing the ducting knockout A, you must make sure that the ducting knockout A is not removed.

Information

Sufficient air is needed for proper combustion and exhausting of gases through the flue (chimney) of fuel burning equipment to prevent back drafting.

Ductless

In a ductless installation the air is re-circulated back into the kitchen. If you do not anticipate heavy cooking this method will be preferred. It will not be necessary to remove any duct knockouts, you only need chose knockout C. You should use filters to help remove cooking odors. These filter must be washed and replaced at regular intervals.

After selecting venting direction and completing installation, you can turn the knob to achieve ductless or duct.Open the filter, then you can see the knob.

Ductless fans must always be vented to the outdoors.

Installation

Ensure the power has been turned off before beginning this installation.

To install this hood you will require two assistants.

You will need the following tools and material to complete this installation: *Drill*Flat head screwdriver*Phillips head screwdriver or cordless drill and Phillips head bit*Tin snips*3/8" nut driver or ratchet with extension*measuring tape*hand saw or jig saw*electrical tape*duct tape

1. Remove the range hood from the carton.
2. Lay the hood upside down on a table covered with cardboard or paper to prevent scratching of the table or hood.
3. Hood installation should be within 0.8m radius range.
4. We recommend that after installation the bottom of the hood should be no less than 650mm and no more than 750mm above the stove's heating elements and burners.

Installation work and electrical wiring must be done by qualified person(s) in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including fire-rated construction.

1. Hang the hood and let it's 4 key holes aim at screws, the 4 screws should be in the narrow parts of key holes. Screws should be fasten firmly, make sure that the installation between the hood and cabinet is enough fasten.

2. According to the figure, make sure the position of hood in the cabinet. The wood strips should be line up with the 4 keyholes slots on the top of the range hood. On the cabinet, install 4 screws (supplied) according to the relative position of 4 key holes on the bottom of hood. The extent of screwing should be convenience to the next installation.

3. Install screws in the security holes, in case of front and back moving of hood, so that the using is safer.

Information

When cutting or drilling into wall or ceiling, do not damage electrical wiring or other hidden utilities.

If the installation surface in cabinet don't adapt to install the cooker hood, then as per FIG. 5, fix the position of cooker hood on the wall. On the wall, install 2 screws (supplied) according to the relative position of 2 key holes on the back of hood. The extent of screwing should be convenience to the next installation. Also install screws in the security holes, in case of front and back moving of hood, so that the using is safer.

The cooker hood must not be installed and connected to flues where other appliances are installed and which run off other energy supplied different to electricity (water heaters boiler cookers (range/agas) etc.).

Hood Using Method

Turn the hood ON when cooking at high heat or when cooking flaming foods.

1. Adjust the knob to be right position.
2. Insert the power plug firmly.

Press the the switch of light to be on, the bulbs light on. Otherwise the bulbs don't work. When press the push button "1": on, the motor runs at low speed. When press the push button "2" on, the motor runs at middle speed. When press the push button "3" on, the motor runs at high speed. When press the push button "0" on, the motor stops running.

Replacing Bulb: Removing the bulb that need to be replaced, then reinstall the new bulb. The power of bulb must not be more than 40W.

Information

Clean ventilating fans frequently. Grease should not be allowed to accumulate on fan or filter.

Cleaning Instructions

Disconnect range hood from power supply before cleaning or servicing.

1. Cleaning the surface of hood frequently. Use mild soap or detergent to clean the hood.
2. Do not use harsh alkalis or abrasives.
3. Avoid the use of scouring powers or dishwasher compounds.
4. Grease filter may be washed using mild soap or detergent. (heavy grease build-up may not be cleaned easily and the filter may require replacement)
5. Charcoal filters cannot be cleaned and must be replaced regularly.

When cleaning, water must not inter into motor, control switch etc. electrical parts.

• It is recommendable to clean the metallic filter every three months by carrying out the following instructions:
• Remove the metallic filter from the cooker hood and wash it in a solution of water and neutral liquid detergent, leaving to soak
• Rinse thoroughly with warm water and leave to dry.
• The metallic filter may also be washed in the dishwasher. The metallic filter may alter in color after several washes.

This is not cause for customer complaint nor replacement of metallic filter.

Guarantee Conditions

1. The guarantee is valid for Twelve (12) months commencing when the appliance is handed over to the first retail purchaser, which must be verified by purchase invoice or similar documentation.
2. Kelvinator guarantees the equipment against defective material or faulty manufacture, provided it is used for domestic use from the date of purchase by the original purchaser. If not used as above-mentioned, the warranty period will limited.
3. If the appliance is used or installed more than Fifty (50) kilometres from the nearest Kelvinator Authorised Service Agent, the additional distance covered shall be for the account of the purchaser.
4. The risk in regard to appliances to be repaired shall at all times remain with the purchaser.
5. This guarantee is given on condition that only genuine Kelvinator parts and accessories are used at all times in the appliance.
6. Kelvinator shall not be responsible for damage of any kind resulting from electricity fluctuations, faults in the building wiring, faulty installations, improper use of controls or failure to use the appliance in accordance with the operating instructions and/or general misuse and/or abuse, which would include unforeseen accidents, wear and tear, and/or earthquake, flood, lightning or any other natural disaster beyond the control of Kelvinator.
7. Any attempt by an unauthorised person to repair or tamper with the appliance shall render this guarantee null and void.

8. This guarantee does not include bulbs, loose glass, glass oven doors, enamelled surfaces, discolouring of stainless steel surfaces, filters and other parts subject to wear and tear.

9. Kelvinator shall not be responsible in terms of this guarantee for the replacement or repair of any parts of the appliance if damaged during transit, where packaging damage is visible.

10. Repairs carried out under guarantee do not extend the guarantee period for the appliance. Parts removed during guarantee repairs become the property of Kelvinator.
11. This guarantee shall be available only to a purchaser of Kelvinator appliances from an authorised Electrolux Home Products/Kelvinator Dealer or Distributor in and where the appliance has been retained for use in the Republic South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
12. Failure to produce documentary proof of the date or original acquisition by the original purchaser will result in normal charges being levied for the work carried out and the parts supplied.
13. The liability of Kelvinator under this guarantee is limited to the replacement and/or repair of the defective parts within the guarantee period and does not extend to be installation or removal of the appliance. Furthermore, Kelvinator does not accept responsibility or liability to compensate for any consequential loss or damage of any kind caused by or due to the failure of operation or malfunction of any equipment to which this guarantee applies.
14. It is at the sole discretion of Kelvinatorthat, in terms of guarantee, consideration be given to replace the appliance due to various parts failing of a similar nature or in the event of the appliance being in a state of beyond repair.

The manufacturer shall decline all responsibility if the foregoing recommendations and instruction regarding installation, maintenance and use are not observed and respected when using the cooker hood.
