Frequently Asked Questions - FNA108E-B4 FOSCAM

No image displayed on the monitor after starting up normally.
Verify the device is connected to the monitor via HDMI or VGA cable. Ensure the cable is good and the monitor's input mode matches the NVR output (e.g., HDMI to HDMI). If using VGA, select VGA input on the monitor. Also check that the NVR is powered on (Power LED green).
No record file found in the NVR local HDD.
First, check the system time is correct (Menu > Configuration > System Time). Then verify the search conditions: channel, date, and time in Playback. Also confirm the HDD status is normal (Menu > HDD). If the HDD is not detected, reinstall it or format it.
Why is recording not performed after motion detection is enabled?
Ensure that on the Motion Detection page: the correct channel is selected, a trigger time segment is set (Schedule), a detection area is defined (click Set detection area), and the 'Record' action is checked under 'Event Trigger'. Also verify that the camera supports motion detection.
The screen display is incomplete or cut off.
Confirm the current resolution setting in Main Menu > Configuration. The NVR supports up to 3840x2160. Make sure your monitor supports that resolution. If the resolution is set too high for the monitor, lower it to 1920x1080 or 1280x720.
Why can't video files be downloaded during playback or played back after download?
The server limits concurrency. Stop any ongoing playback before downloading. Ensure the USB drive is inserted and formatted as FAT32. If the downloaded file cannot be played, try using a compatible media player. Also check that the file is not corrupted.
How do I reset the NVR to factory defaults?
You can reset by pressing and holding the Reset button on the bottom of the NVR for 3 seconds. Alternatively, go to Menu > Restore in the GUI, choose the settings to reset (e.g., IP, password, language), and click OK.
How to add IP cameras to the NVR?
Right-click in live view and select 'Channel Config' or go to Main Menu > Channel Config. Click 'Add' after selecting a discovered camera from the list. Enter the camera's username and password (if not factory default). You can also use auto-add for Foscam cameras on the same network.
How to set up email alerts for motion detection?
First configure email settings in Main Menu > Network > Email: enter SMTP server, port, account, password, and recipient address. Then enable Motion Detection in Menu > Event > Motion Detect, check 'Send Email' under Event Trigger, and save. The NVR will send an email with snapshot when motion is detected.
How to upgrade the NVR firmware?
Download the latest firmware from the Foscam website to a USB drive. Insert the USB into the NVR, go to Menu > Upgrade, click 'Refresh' to detect the file, select it, and click 'Upgrade'. Do not power off during the upgrade. The NVR will reboot automatically.
What should I do when the HDD is full?
Go to Main Menu > HDD and set 'HDD Full' to 'Overwrite' to automatically overwrite the oldest recordings. Alternatively, you can manually delete files by formatting the HDD (but this erases all recordings). Also consider enabling 'Video Storage' to limit recording days.

Channel: Select the channel.

Stream: There are two types to identify different streams you have set.

Resolution: The camera supports multiple types in the channel, For example: 2K,3M,1080P, 720P, VGA. The higher the resolution is, the clearer video will become. But the code flux will become larger too, and it will take up more bandwidth. (Different models support different specific types.)

Bit Rate: Generally speaking, the larger the bit rate is, the clearer video will become. But the bit rate configuration should combine well with the network bandwidth. When the bandwidth is very narrow, and bit rate is large, that will lead to video can not play well.

Frame Rate: Note that a larger frame size takes up more bandwidth. When the video format is 50Hz, the maximum frame rate is 25 fps. When the video format is 60Hz, the maximum frame rate is 30 fps. You should lower frame rate when the bandwidth is limited. Normally, when the frame rate above 15, you can achieve fluently video.

5 Appendix

5.1 HDD Capacity Calculation

This chapter describes how to determine the size of the HDD you need when you install the NVR the first time.

The NVR adopts the MPEG4/H.264 compression technology and its dynamic range is large.

Therefore, the capacity of the HDD depends on the estimated size of files generated in each chanr every hour according to code streams.

Computational formula of HDD Capacity:

Whole HDD Capacity(M)= number of the channels * time in need (hour) * spent of HDD Capacity | hour (MB/hour)

The meanings of parameters are as follows:

● Number of the channels: Number of channels where you need to enable recording.
● Time in need (hour): Time you need to record.
● Spent of HDD Capacity per hour

Spent of HDD Capacity per hour(M/hour) 8bit * ond)(

You can obtain the Bit Rate by using the following methods:

-In the GUI interface, choose Menu > Settings > Video, view the value of the Bit Rate.

-In the Web interface, choose Parameter Configuration > Local settings > Encoding Scheme, view the value of the Bit Rate.

[Example]

If you select 4M for the bit rate and select four channels for recording and one week of recording needed, you can calculate the HDD capacity by using the following formula:

Recording time(hour) =7days*24 hours=168 hour

Spent of HDD Capacity per hour(M/hour)= 4Mbit8bit *3600=1800M/hour

Whole HDD Capacity(M)=4*168(hour)*1800 (M/hour) =1209600M,

$$ 1 2 0 9 6 0 0 \mathrm{M} = \frac {1 2 0 9 6 0 0 \mathrm{M}}{1 0 2 4} = 1 1 8 1. 2 5 \mathrm{G} $$

According to the preceding calculation result, you are advised to buy a HDD of 1.5 TB or above.
