Frequently Asked Questions - 16280012 Melissa

How do I clean the rice cooker?
Wash the rice bowl, lid, measuring cup, and spatula in warm soapy water after each use. Do not use harsh detergents or abrasive cleaners. Wipe the base with a clean, damp cloth. Never immerse the base, cord, or plug in water.
What is the maximum rice quantity I can cook?
The rice cooker can handle up to 4 standard measuring cups of uncooked rice (about 720 ml). This yields approximately 8 cups of cooked rice. For the keep warm function, the bowl should contain at least 3 cups of cooked rice.
Can I keep rice warm for hours?
Yes, the automatic keep warm function keeps rice warm, fluffy, and ready to serve for up to 5 hours after cooking. To stop the keep warm cycle, simply unplug the appliance.
Why is my rice not cooking properly?
Ensure the outside of the rice bowl is clean and dry, and the heat sensor on the base is clean and dry. Use the correct water-to-rice ratio: for 2 cups of raw rice use 2.5 cups of water; for 4 cups use 4.5 cups. Also, always use the lid during cooking.
Can I use the rice bowl on a stove?
No, do not place the rice bowl on other heat sources such as a cooking stove. It may become deformed and cause damage or injury.
Is it safe to leave the rice cooker unattended?
The appliance should not be left unattended during use as it generates heat and steam. However, it automatically switches to keep warm after cooking. Always ensure the lid is on and avoid touching the steam vent.
How do I prevent rice from sticking to the bowl?
Rice may stick if not cleaned properly. After use, soak the bowl in hot water with mild detergent for about 10 minutes before washing. Also, for fluffier rice, wash the rice before cooking to remove excess starch.
What does the keep warm function do?
After cooking finishes, the rice cooker automatically switches to keep warm mode. It maintains the rice at a serving temperature without overcooking, indicated by the warm LED. The rice can be kept warm for up to 5 hours.
How do I stop the keep warm cycle?
Simply unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. The keep warm cycle does not have a manual off switch; unplugging is the only way to stop it.
What should I do if water gets into the base?
Carefully unplug the power cord immediately. Allow the base to dry thoroughly before using the appliance again. Do not operate if wet. Never immerse the base in water.

Do not use harsh detergents or abrasive cleaners on any parts of the appliance. Never immerse the base in water or any other liquid.

HOW TO COOK RICE:

Before each use, make sure that the outside of the rice bowl is clean and dry and that the heat sensor in the centre, on the inside of the base, is clean, dry and cool. Handle the rice bowl carefully. Scratching or denting the bowl may result in unsatisfactory performance.

  1. Measure rice and water and place evenly in rice bowl. NEVER PUT ANY LIQUID INTO THE BASE. The lid has to be used during the entire preparation time. NOTE: There are differing opinions about whether rice should be washed before cooking. Drier fluffier rice is obtained by washing rice first.

  5. If the rice is to be kept warm leave the rice cooker plugged in. Reposition the lid after having fluffed the rice.
  6. Unplug the rice cooker before removing lidand rice bowl from the base.

NOTE: Rice may be kept warm for up to 5 hours. To stop the automatic keep warm cycle, simply unplug from wall outlet.

Wipe the base with a clean, damp cloth and dry. NOTE: If the rice sticks to the pot fill it with hot water with a mild detergent and let it soak for about 10 minutes.

  1. To reduce the risk of electric shock, cook only in removable container. DO NOT IMMERSE THE BASE, CORD OR PLUG IN WATER OR ANY OTHER LIQUID.
