Frequently Asked Questions - 640-277 Melissa

How do I empty the dust container?
Press the release button to remove the dust container. Hold the handle and turn the transparent part clockwise to separate. Empty into a bin, then close by turning anticlockwise until it clicks.
How do I clean the HEPA filter?
Remove the dust container and turn the filter holder from LOCK to UNLOCK. Clean the filter with a brush or wash with clean water. Let it dry completely before reinstalling. Do not use heat sources.
Why is suction power reduced?
Check for blockages in the nozzle, hose, or dust container inlet. Also ensure the filter is clean. If blocked, stop using immediately to avoid motor damage and clear the blockage.
Can I vacuum liquids?
No, this vacuum cleaner is for dry use only. Do not vacuum liquids, wet substances, or damp materials as it may damage the appliance.
How do I adjust the suction power?
Open or close the air valve on the handle. Closing gives full suction for floors; opening reduces suction for curtains or delicate items.
How do I change the brush setting on the floor nozzle?
Use the two switches on the nozzle. For hard floors, extend the brushes. For carpets, retract the brushes.
How do I store the vacuum cleaner?
Unplug and press the cord rewind button to wind the cord. Store in a clean, dry place. Do not place heavy objects on top.
What should I do if the appliance stops working?
Check if the dust container is full or the filter is blocked. Ensure the plug is securely connected. If still not working, contact an authorized repairer.
Is a dust bag required?
No, this is a bagless vacuum cleaner. Dirt collects in the transparent dust container which can be emptied and reused.
Can I use the vacuum cleaner without the filter?
No, never use without the HEPA filter and dust container in place. Doing so can damage the appliance.

There is also a joint nozzle included.

PREPARING THE APPLIANCE

  1. Attach the hose (11) to the appliance by fitting the hose connector (13) into the hose port (9) at the upper part of the appliance until it clicks into place.
  2. Put the two parts of the tube (14) together by pushing the thinner end of one tube into the thicker end of the other tube. Fix the tube to the hose nozzle (12).
  3. Install the floor nozzle (15) or the joint nozzle to the end of the tube. Please note that both nozzles may also be installed directly on the hose.
  4. Check that the dust container (1) and HEPA filter (6) are assembled correctly (see section on Cleaning filters and emptying the dust container, below).

USING THE APPLIANCE

  1. Unwind the cord (3).
  2. Connect the appliance.
  3. Press the On/off button (2) to switch the appliance on and off.
  4. Suction strength can be regulated by opening and closing the air vent (18) on the handle.

  5. When the vent closes full suction is achieved. This is the normal setting.

  6. When the vent opens, more air is allowed in, reducing suction power at the floor nozzle.

This function is for cleaning curtains and other light items which can get sucked into the nozzle.

  1. The floor nozzle brushes have two settings, which can be selected using the two switches (16 and 17).
  2. When cleaning hard surfaces (wooden floors, stone floors, tiles, linoleum, etc.), the nozzle brushes should be extended.
  3. When cleaning carpets and rugs, the brushes should be retracted into the nozzle.
  4. Always turn off the appliance using the on/off button, and unplug it, when you are finished with it.

- IMPORTANT! If the suction strength of the appliance is reduced, the nozzle, hose or dust container inlet may be blocked, or the filters may be blocked or dirty. Stop using the appliance if this is the case, as this will damage the motor. Immediately remove the cause of the blockage or clean the filter.

EMPTYING THE DUST CONTAINER AND CLEANING THE FILTER

This appliance is not equipped with a dust bag. The dust/dirt is sucked into the transparent dust holder instead. Once the dust is in this container, it whirls around so that it does not block suction. The air sucked in is cleaned by means of a washable filter in the dust container.

We recommend that you empty the dust container and clean the filter every time you use the vacuum cleaner, and if the dust container is full.

Emptying the dust container

It is easy to see when the transparent dust container needs emptying. Empty the dust container regularly, and never use the appliance when it is full.

  1. Remove the hose from the appliance by pressing the two buttons either side of the hose connection and pull upwards.
  2. To remove the dust container, press the release button (8) and lift the container out of the appliance.
  3. Take the dust container to a dustbin.
  4. Separate the dust container by holding the handle (7) on the upper part of the dust container and turning the transparent part of the dust container clockwise.
  5. Empty the holder.
  6. Close the dust container by holding the handle on the upper part and turning the transparent part of the dust container anti-clockwise so that the two pins on the transparent part of the dust container lock again.
  7. Fix the dust container onto the appliance by inserting it into the locking mechanism (5) until it clicks.

Cleaning the filter

  1. Remove and empty the dust container as described in the section Emptying the dust container.

  2. Grab hold of the handle on the upper part of the dust container and turn the HEPA filter clockwise until the arrow on the filter holder moves from the "LOCK" position to the "UNLOCK" position.

  3. Clean the HEPA filter using a brush, or wash using clean water. Allow the filter to dry completely before use. Do not use a radiator or other heat sources for drying the HEPA filter.

  4. Install the filter again by moving the arrow on the filter holder to the "LOCK" position on the HEPA filter locking mechanism (10) and turn the holder anti-clockwise until the filter holder clicks into place.

  5. Collect the dust container and install it on the appliance as described in the section Emptying the dust container.

IMPORTANT! The appliance must not be used if the filter and the dust container are not in place.

IMPORTANT! Turn off the appliance and unplug it before cleaning the filter or emptying the dust container.

STORAGE

  • Before putting the appliance away, wind the cord in. Remove the plug from the socket and wind the cord in.
  • Store the appliance in a clean and dry place.
  • Do not place heavy objects on top of the appliance.

CLEANING

When cleaning the appliance, you should pay attention to the following:

- Remove the plug from the mains socket, and allow the appliance to cool down completely before cleaning it.

  • Do not immerse the appliance in water and make sure no water enters the appliance.
  • Clean the appliance by wiping it with a damp cloth. A little detergent can be added if the appliance is heavily soiled.
  • Do not use scouring pads, steel wool or any form of strong solvents or abrasive cleaning agents to clean the appliance, as they can damage the external surfaces of the appliance.
  • IMPORTANT! Allow to dry completely after cleaning. Do not use the appliance if it is damp.
  • The transparent dust container can be washed in hot water with a little household detergent. Ensure all parts are completely dry before replacing them and using the appliance again (see “Emptying the dust container” and “Cleaning the filter” above).
  • When the filter pads are worn or cannot be properly cleaned, replace them with pads of the same type.
