What is the maximum browning level?

The toaster has 6 browning levels, with 6 being the darkest. Adjust the dial (3) according to your preference.

How do I stop the toasting cycle early?

Press the CANCEL button (4) to interrupt toasting at any time. The bread will pop up automatically.

Can I toast bagels in this toaster?

Yes. Cut the bagel in half and place each half in a slot with the cut side facing outward to toast the inside while warming the outside.

What should I do if bread gets stuck?

First, raise and lower the lever (2) a few times. If stuck, unplug the toaster, let it cool, turn it upside down and shake gently. Never use metal objects as they can cause electrical shock.

How do I clean the crumb tray?

Remove the crumb tray (5) from the bottom of the toaster. Dust off crumbs and wash with mild detergent and water if needed. Dry thoroughly before reinserting.

Why does the toaster smoke the first time I use it?

A small amount of smoke or odor is normal during initial use due to manufacturing residues burning off. This will disappear after a few cycles.

Can I toast frozen bread?

Yes, but you may need to use a higher browning setting. The toaster does not have a specific defrost function.

Is the toaster suitable for commercial use?

No. This toaster is designed for household indoor use only. Commercial use may void the warranty.

What type of plug does it have?

General

• Incorrect use of this appliance may cause personal injury and damage to the appliance.
• Use for its intended purpose only. The manufacturer is not responsible for any injury or damage resulting from incorrect use or handling (see also Guarantee Terms).
• For domestic use only. Not for outdoor or commercial use.
• For connection to 230 V, 50 Hz only. The appliance must be earthed.
• Do not immerse the appliance, cord or plug in water and make sure no water enters the appliance.
• Never touch the appliance, cord or plug with wet or damp hands.
• Do not expose to direct sunlight, high temperatures, humidity, dust or corrosive substances.
• Keep the appliance under constant supervision while in use. Keep an eye on children when using the appliance.
• Only use accessories manufactured or recommended by the manufacturer.

Use

• Always place the appliance on a dry, level, firm and heat-resistant surface well away from any edges.
- Always place the appliance at a safe distance from flammable objects such as curtains, tablecloths or similar.
- The appliance must not be placed or stored near other sources of heat.
- Do not cover.
- Never insert your fingers or any metal objects into the openings of the appliance as this could cause electrical shocks.
- The metal parts get very hot during use. Do not touch them due to the danger of burns.
- Please note that the appliance will remain hot for a while after you switch it off. Always allow it to cool completely before you put it away or clean it.
- The appliance should be regularly emptied of crumbs, as these could cause a fire. The appliance must not be used without a crumb tray.
- Foods wrapped in foil or similar and very thick slices of bread must not be heated in the appliance, as this could promote fire hazard.

Cord and plug

• Do not let the cord hang out over the edge of the work surface.

• Check that it is not possible to pull or trip over the cord or any extension cord.

• Keep the cord and appliance away from heat sources, hot objects, naked flames and the hot parts of the appliance.

• Turn off the appliance and remove the plug from the socket when cleaning or when not in use. Avoid pulling the cord when removing the plug from the socket. Instead, hold the plug.
• Ensure that the cord is fully extended.
• The cord must not be twisted or wound around the appliance.
• Check regularly that neither cord nor plug is damaged and do not use if they are, or if the appliance has been dropped or damaged in any other way.
• If the appliance, cord or plug has been damaged, have them inspected and if necessary repaired by an authorised repairer. Never try to repair the appliance yourself. Please contact the store where you bought the appliance for repairs under the guarantee. Unauthorised repairs or modifications to the appliance will invalidate the guarantee.

PRIOR TO FIRST USE

• Wipe the exterior surfaces of the appliance and the grid for bread rolls with a damp cloth and let the appliance dry.
• Turn on the appliance and allow it to complete an entire toasting cycle without any bread in to remove any oil residue from manufacture.

USE

1. Plug in and switch on the power.
2. Remove any packaging from the bread before toasting.
3. Use the grid for bread rolls if you want to toast bread rolls, French bread sticks or any type of bread that will not fit in the toaster slots (1).
   o Place the grid on top of the appliance so that the vertical metal holder fits into the toaster openings.
4. Place the bread to be toasted in the toaster slots or on the grid for bread rolls. Never place bread directly on top of the appliance.

o Bagels and similar must be cut in halves before placed in the toaster. Place the two halves in the two toaster slots with the outside of the bread facing the sides of the toaster. This allows the bagels to toast on the inside and heat on the outside.

1. Turn the setting dial (3) to the required toasting time. 1 is the shortest time and 6 is the longest.
2. Push the lever (2) down to lower the bread into the appliance. The red indicator light in the "CANCEL" button (4) is lit and toasting commences.
3. The "CANCEL" button is the stop button. Press this button if you want to interrupt toasting before time.
4. The appliance switches off automatically when the bread has finished toasting and the bread pops up.

IMPORTANT!

• If the bread gets stuck in the toaster slots, raise and lower the lever a couple of times to loosen the bread. If the bread remains stuck, unplug the toaster and leave it to cool down. Then turn the toaster upside down and shake it carefully to remove the bread. Never use a metal object to loosen the bread.
• Do not use the toaster to toast or heat bread with runny fillings, sugar or icing since it may get stuck in the toaster and burn.
• Do not use the toaster for toasting rice cakes as they can catch fire.
• Foods wrapped in foil or similar and very thick slices of bread must not be heated in the appliance, as this could promote fire hazard.
• The appliance should be regularly emptied of crumbs, as these could cause a fire.
• Remember to turn the appliance off at the socket and remove the plug when you are finished using it.

Caution! You may experience a small amount of smoke or odour the first few times the appliance is used. This is due to excess material from the manufacturing process being burnt off. This is completely normal, and the smoke/smell will soon disappear.

Toasting tips

The appliance can be used to toast many different types of bread. It is not possible to recommend a browning level for all types of bread, as it very much depends on the composition of the bread and personal taste. Proceed by trial and error. Thick slices of bread, buns and coarse bread need to be toasted longer than thin slices of bread and light bread.

CLEANING

When cleaning the appliance, you should pay attention to the following points:

• Remove plug from the mains socket, and allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning it.
• Never submerge the appliance in water, and no water must be allowed to get into it.

• Clean the appliance by wiping it with a damp cloth. A little detergent can be added if the appliance is heavily soiled.

• Do not use scouring pads, steel wool or any form of strong solvents or abrasive cleaning agents to clean the appliance, as they may damage the outside surfaces of the appliance.

• Empty the appliance of crumbs regularly. Turn the appliance upside down and shake it carefully until all breadcrumbs have been removed. Remove the crumb tray (5), dust off any crumbs and, if required, wash it up with ordinary detergent and water. Remember to replace the crumb tray again.
• IMPORTANT! Allow to dry fully after cleaning before using again. Do not use the appliance if damp.

Plug wiring:

This product is fitted with a BS 1363 13-amp plug. If you have to replace the fuse, only those that are ASTA or BSI approved to BS1362 and with a rated current of 13 amps should be used. If there is a fuse cover fitted, this cover must be refitted after changing the fuse. If the fuse cover is lost or damaged, the plug must not be used. You must also check if the socket outlets in your home fit with the plug of the appliance. If the socket outlet in your home does not fit with the plug, the plug must be removed and disposed of safely as insertion of the plug into the socket is likely to cause electric hazard. A replacement plug should be wired according to following description.

As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this appliance may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:

The wire that is coloured Green& Yellow must be connected to the terminal in the plug that is marked with the letter E or by the earth symbol, or coloured green& yellow. The wire that is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal that is marked with the letter N or coloured black. The wire that is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal that is marked with the letter L or coloured red.
