How do I use the Melissa 643-239 egg cooker?

Fill the measuring cup with water according to the number of eggs and desired doneness (soft, medium, hard). Pour water onto the hotplate. Pierce a small hole in the rounded end of each egg using the piercing tool, then place eggs in the tray. Put the tray on the hotplate, cover with the lid, plug in, and switch on. The indicator light will turn on. When water has evaporated, the appliance switches off automatically and you will hear a buzz. Unplug, remove lid carefully (watch for steam), and cool eggs under cold water.

How many eggs can I cook at once?

You can cook up to 7 eggs at a time. The measuring cup has markings for 1 to 7 eggs.

How do I clean the egg cooker?

Always unplug and let the appliance cool completely. Wipe the base and hotplate with a damp cloth; add mild detergent if needed. Never submerge the base, cord, or plug in water. For limescale removal, use a solution of 1 part vinegar to 10 parts water, leave for 30 minutes, then wipe clean. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.

Why does the egg cooker turn off by itself?

The appliance has an automatic shut-off feature. When all the water has evaporated, the thermostat switches off the power. This is normal and indicates the eggs are ready.

Can I cook eggs without piercing them?

SAFETY MEASURES

General

• Incorrect use of this appliance may cause personal injury and damage.
• Use for its intended purpose only. The manufacturer is not responsible for any injury or damage resulting from incorrect use or handling (see also Guarantee Terms).
• For domestic use only. Not for outdoor or commercial use.
  • For connection to 230 V, 50 Hz only.
• Never submerge the base of the appliance, cord or plug in water. Never allow water to seep into the base.
• Never touch the appliance, cord or plug with wet or damp hands.
• Do not expose to direct sunlight, high temperatures, humidity, dust or corrosive substances.
• Keep the appliance under constant supervision while in use. Keep an eye on children.
• The appliance is not to be used by persons with reduced sensitivity, physical or mental disabilities or persons who are unable to use the appliance unless supervised or instructed by a person responsible for their safety.
• Use only accessories supplied with the appliance or those recommended by the manufacturer.

Use

• Always place the appliance on a dry, level, firm and heat-resistant surface well away from any edges.
• The appliance must not be placed or stored near other sources of heat.
• Do not cover.

• Do not switch the appliance on unless there is water in it.

• Do not touch the outside of the appliance during or just after use as it will be very hot. Note that hot steam escapes from the hole in the lid. Always hold the lid by the handle. Be careful of hot steam when opening the lid.

• Please note that the appliance will remain hot for a while after you switch it off. Always allow it to cool completely before you put it away or clean it.
• The egg piercing tool is very sharp. Take care when piercing eggs and when using the tray.

Cord and plug

• Do not let the cord hang out over the edge of the work surface.
• Keep the cord away from heat sources, hot objects, naked flames and the hot parts of the appliance.
• Remove the plug from the socket before removing the lid from the appliance, before cleaning, or when the appliance is not in use. Avoid pulling the cord when removing the plug from the socket. Instead, hold the plug.
• Check regularly that neither cord nor plug is damaged and do not use if they are, or if the appliance has been dropped or damaged in any other way.
• If the appliance, cord or plug has been damaged, have the appliance inspected and if necessary repaired by an authorised repairer. Never try to repair the appliance yourself. Please contact the store where you bought the appliance for repairs under the guarantee. Unauthorised repairs or modifications to the appliance will invalidate the guarantee.

USING THE APPLIANCE

1. Fill the measuring cup (1) with water, according to the number of eggs and cooking time required.

o The numbers 1-7 on the measuring cup indicate the number of eggs to be cooked.
Use the the Soft scale to make soft-boiled eggs, Medium for medium-boiled eggs and Hard for hard-boiled eggs.

1. Pour the appropriate amount of water into the hotplate (7).
2. To avoid the eggs cracking during cooking, pierce a small hole in the rounded end of each egg, using the egg piercing tool (4) on the tray (3).
3. Place the eggs in the tray and then place the tray on the hotplate.
4. Put the lid (2) on.
5. Plug in and switch on the power. The indicator lamp (5) lights up and the appliance begins to cook the eggs.

6. When all the water has evaporated, the eggs are ready. The thermostat inside the appliance switches off the appliance. You will hear a buzz.

7. Remove the plug from the mains socket. Carefully remove the lid.

The appliance is still very hot. Remove the tray from the hotplate and cool the eggs immediately. If not, they will continue to cook.

NOTE! Take care when using the egg piercing tool and the tray – the egg piercing tool is very sharp.

CLEANING

When cleaning the appliance, you should pay attention to the following points:

• Remove plug from the mains socket, and allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning it.
• Never submerge the base of the appliance, cord or plug in water. Never allow water to seep into the base.
• To clean the hotplate and base, wipe with a damp cloth. A little detergent can be added if the appliance is heavily soiled.
• To remove lime deposits from the hotplate, use ordinary household vinegar and water (1 part vinegar to 10 parts water). Pour the solution onto the hotplate and leave to stand for approximately 30 minutes. Then pour away the solution. Then wipe the hotplate with a damp cloth.
• Do not use scouring pads, steel wool or any form of strong solvents or abrasive cleaning agents to clean the appliance, as they may damage the outside surfaces of the appliance.
• IMPORTANT! Allow the appliance to dry fully after cleaning before using again.
• Ensure the appliance is clean and dry before storing.

Plug wiring:

This product is fitted with a BS 1363 13-amp plug. If you have to replace the fuse, only those that are ASTA or BSI approved to BS1362 and with a rated current of 13 amps should be used. If there is a fuse cover fitted, this cover must be refitted after changing the fuse. If the fuse cover is lost or damaged, the plug must not be used. You must also check if the socket outlets in your home fit with the plug of the appliance. If the socket outlet in your home does not fit with the plug, the plug must be removed and disposed of safely as insertion of the plug into the socket is likely to cause electric hazard. A replacement plug should be wired according to following description.

As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this appliance may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:

The wire that is coloured Green& Yellow must be connected to the terminal in the plug that is marked with the letter E or by the earth symbol, or coloured green& yellow.

The wire that is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal that is marked with the letter N or coloured black. The wire that is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal that is marked with the letter L or coloured red.
