Frequently Asked Questions - King Size 6972 OBH NORDICA

How do I use the waffle maker for the first time?
Before first use, clean the plates with a damp cloth and grease them lightly. Then heat the appliance for a few minutes and discard the first two waffles. This removes any manufacturing residue.
What do the red and green lights mean?
The red light indicates the appliance is plugged in and heating. The green light turns on when the selected temperature is reached. It will cycle on and off during cooking to maintain temperature.
How do I adjust the browning of waffles?
Turn the temperature knob to a higher setting (closer to 6) for darker, crispier waffles, or a lower setting (closer to 1) for lighter, softer waffles. Experiment to find your preference.
Can I use metal utensils on the non-stick plates?
No, metal utensils can damage the non-stick coating. Use only wooden, silicone, or plastic utensils to remove waffles.
Why does my waffle stick to the plates?
Ensure the plates are properly greased before each batch. Also, wait for the green light to indicate the correct temperature. If sticking persists, the coating may be worn; contact customer service.
How do I clean the waffle maker?
Unplug and let it cool completely. Wipe the plates with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Never immerse the appliance or cord in water, and avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
Can I make other foods besides waffles?
This waffle maker is designed for waffle batter only. Using other foods may damage the coating or cause uneven cooking.
Why does the green light turn on and off during cooking?
This is normal. The thermostat cycles to maintain the set temperature. The green light turns off when heating and on when the temperature is reached.
Is the cord detachable?
No, the cord is fixed. Store it carefully to avoid damage. Do not wrap it around the appliance while hot.
What should I do if the waffle maker stops working?
Check that the plug is securely in the outlet and the outlet is working. If it still doesn't heat, contact OBH Nordica customer service or a qualified repair person. Do not attempt to repair yourself.

Before use

Before the waffle iron is used for the first time, read the instructions for use carefully and save them for future use.

Unwind the cord. Clean the plates with a damp cloth and grease them with fat before you use the appliance for the first time. The first 2 waffles should not be eaten.

Use

Plug the appliance to an outlet, the red pilot lamp will light. Set the temperature by turning the temperature knob to desired setting (1-6). Setting 1 gives a low temperature (lighter frying) and 6 a higher temperature (harder frying). We recommend that you test different settings until you find the right one for your personal taste. When the selected temperature is reached the green pilot lamp will light and the appliance is ready for use.

Frying

Pour the batter in the middle of the lower plate and close the lid, press a few seconds so that the batter is spread evenly. Do not press during the whole process though this will prevent the waffle from rise. The green pilot lamp will turn on and off during use, this is normal.

Frying time

The frying time varies depending on the batter you use and how well fried you want the waffle. When you think your waffle is ready, open the lid and remove the waffle with a plastic or wooden utensil (metal can damage the coating). Place the waffle on a grid to keep the crispiness.

Cleaning

Always unplug the appliance before cleaning. Never clean the appliance when plugged in. Let the iron cool before cleaning. Never immerse the appliance or its cord in water or any other liquid.

Use a damp cloth and mild detergent for cleaning of the plates. Never use sharp objects to clean the plates since the coating can be damaged. Dry the housing with a damp cloth.
