Frequently Asked Questions - 6950 OBH NORDICA

How do I use the OBH Nordica 6950 Waffle Maker for the first time?
Before first use, wipe the plates with a damp cloth and dry. Heat the appliance without batter for about 5 minutes to burn off any manufacturing residues. Then let it cool, wipe again, and it's ready.
What is the best temperature setting for golden waffles?
Start with medium setting. Adjust based on preference: lower for lighter waffles, higher for darker, crispier ones. The indicator light shows when it's ready.
How much batter should I pour in?
Pour enough batter to cover the bottom plate, but not overflow. Usually about 1 cup (240 ml) for a classic waffle. Close the lid gently; excess may ooze out.
How do I clean the waffle maker after use?
Unplug and let it cool. Wipe non-stick plates with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse in water. For stuck bits, brush with a soft pastry brush.
Can I store the waffle maker standing upright?
Yes, it is designed for vertical storage. Wrap the cord around the base and store in a dry place. Ensure it's completely cool before storing.
Why does the indicator light turn on and off?
This is normal: the thermostat maintains temperature. When the plate reaches set temp, the light goes off; when it cools slightly, the light comes back on to reheat.
What should I do if the waffles stick to the plates?
Ensure the plates are properly preheated and lightly greased with oil or non-stick spray before each use. Avoid overfilling. If still sticking, check if the non-stick coating is damaged.
Is the waffle maker safe to leave unattended?
No, never leave the appliance unattended while in use. It has overheat protection, but always supervise to prevent accidents.
Where can I find replacement parts for model 6950?
Contact OBH Nordica customer service or authorized service centers. Spare parts like plates or cord may be available. Check the manual for part numbers.
Can I use the waffle maker for other foods?
It is designed for waffle batter only. Do not use for other foods as they may damage the non-stick coating or cause uneven cooking.

Before use

Wipe off the plates with a damp cloth and lubricate with some cooking grease before you use the waffle maker for the first time. Do not eat the first two waffles.

Use

Plug the appliance to a wall outlet and the signal lamp surrounding the temperature controller will turn orange. Set the wanted temperature by turning the temperature button on top of the waffle maker to the wanted setting. Setting 1 corresponds to low temperature (pale baking) and 5 corresponds to high temperature (darker baking). We recommend that you try your way to get the result that you want. When the set temperature has been reached, the signal lamp changes to green and the appliance is ready for use.

Baking

Pour the batter in the centre of the lower plate and close the waffle maker. It is important that the handles are not completely closed during baking, as this will prevent the waffle from "fermenting". The signal lamp may go on and off during baking, which means that the correct temperature is maintained.

Baking time

The baking time depends on the batter and the degree of baking you want. When you think that the waffle is done, open the appliance and lift the waffle with a plastic or wooden utensil (metal could damage the coating). Put the waffle on a grid to keep it crispy.

Cleaning

• Always unplug after use and before cleaning.
- Let the waffle maker cool completely before cleaning.
- Only use a damp cloth and possibly with a little washing-up liquid for cleaning the plates. Never use hard or sharp objects which may damage the coating.
- Wipe the housing with a damp cloth.
- Never immerse the appliance or the cord in water or any other liquid.

Basic recipe for crispy waffles

400 g wheat flour

150 g sugar

175 g butter

6 dl milk

2 eggs

1.5 tsp baking powder

1.5 tsp vanilla sugar

Mix all the dry ingredients. Add milk and melted butter. Whip thoroughly and add the eggs. You may use a hand mixer or an electric mixer. Let the butter rest at a cool place for about 30 minutes before baking the waffles. The batter should be thick. Bake the waffles and put them possibly on a grid. You get the best waffles if you can eat them while they are still warm.
