DEAR CUSTOMER!

With the new »Design Water Kettle Advanced Thermo« a forward-looking technology comes to your home. The double-walled kettle is designed according to a vacuum flask, avoiding excessive energy loss, during usage. The water will stay hot within the kettle for an elongated time. Thus, after heating, it will be unnecessary to transfer the water into another vacuum flask. This enables heating up water in an eco-friendly way, by saving energy. Additionally, the exterior of the kettle will stay cool, avoiding the risk of getting burned when touching the outer sides. Whenever possible, you should decide to use your new »Design Water Kettle Advanced Thermo« for heating clear drinking water.

The electronic control enables heating the water up to a desired temperature in the range of 40^ C to 100^ C. The display will show the actual temperature of the water in the kettle. Even this way, you can save a lot of energy in comparison to another simple water kettle, because in most cases there is no need to heat the water to the boil and thereafter leave it cool down to the desired temperature. Using the keep warm function, you can keep the water at the selected temperature for up to 4 hours with only little energy consumption.

The instructions for use will inform you about the properties and features of the appliance, which makes it easy to get used to the handling. We hope that you will enjoy your new »Design Water Kettle Advanced Thermo«.

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS FOR ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES

Place the appliance near a suitable wall power socket, and connect the appliance directly to a protected mains power supply with protective conductor (earth/ground) connected properly. For this, always unwind the power cord completely. Do not to use any extension cord or multi socket outlet. Ensure that the voltage rating of your mains power supply corresponds to the voltage requirements of the appliance (230 V, 50 Hz, AC, rated for at least 16 A).

The power outlet socket must be installed separately to avoid interference with other appliances. The installation of a residual current operated circuit breaker (r.c.c.b.) with a maximum rated residual operating current of 30 mA in the supplying electrical circuit is strongly recommended. If in doubt, contact your electrician for further information.

- In various foreign countries, the specifications for power supplies are subject to incompatible norms. Therefore it is possible that power supplies in foreign countries do not meat the requirements for safe operation of the appliance. Thus, before operating the appliance abroad, ensure that safe operation is possible.

  • Power cords may never be knotted, twisted, pulled, strained or squeezed. Do not let the plug or power cord hang over the edge of the table or counter. Ensure that no one will pull the appliance by the power cord, or entangle in the power cord. Always grasp the plug to disconnect the power cord. Do not touch the power plug or appliance with wet hands while the appliance is connected to the mains power supply.
  • Always unplug the appliance and remove the kettle, before moving or cleaning the power base. Do not leave the power base unattended when it is connected to the power supply.

HIGH TEMPERATURES - RISK OF BURNS

Do not overfill the kettle (1.7 litres at the maximum). Press the pouring button several times before pouring to avoid scalds due to splashing hot water.

  • Always keep the lid closed during operation. Hot steam may escape from the lid and spout. Do not hold your hands, arms and/or face over the appliance during operation to avoid scalds. This holds especially when opening the lid shortly after operation.
  • Hot water could cause severe burns! Do not leave the appliance unattended, when it is in reach of young children, especially when the water within the kettle is hot!

  • Lid and spout could get hot due to steam. Leave the lid closed during operation and thereafter, even for pouring, because large amounts of hot steam will escape when opening the lid. Be aware of hot steam, when pouring hot water. Press the pouring button for pouring.

  • When heating water to a preselected temperature, due to residual heat of the heating plate the water temperature could still rise even after the kettle automatically switched off. When heating water for immediate consumption or for preparing baby food, always ensure that the water has the desired temperature.
  • To avoid the build-up of pressure during heating, the lid of the kettle is not water-tight. When moving the filled kettle, ensure to keep the kettle in an upright, level position to avoid injuries and damage due to spilled hot water.

PROPERTIES OF YOUR NEW WATER KETTLE

Your new »Design Water Kettle Advanced Thermo« is intended for heating up drinking water to a selectable temperature between 40°C to boiling temperature (100°C). After reaching the set temperature, the appliance will switch off the heating plate automatically. Using the Keep Warm Function, the selected temperature can be maintained for up to 4 hours at the maximum. This time limit is implemented to avoid unnecessary energy consumption (see: 'Operation').

The buttons of the power base are sensible to the touch. There is no need to press on any of the buttons. The operating panel is smooth and without any grooves or moulds. Thus, cleaning is easy and done in a rush via a soft damp cloth (see: 'Care and Cleaning').

IMPORTANT: Always keep the lid closed during operation. With the lid open, the temperature control and automatic shut off will not work properly and there will be high energy loss. Additionally, large amounts of hot steam will escape and, with the kettle filled to the maximum, even boiling water could splash, causing a high risk of burns and electric shock.

IMPORTANT: Depending on the water hardness of your drinking water, the appliance needs regular de-scaling (see: 'Care and Cleaning'). Otherwise, the temperature control will not work properly, there will be an increasing energy loss, and overheating of the heating plate could occur.

FUNCTIONS

  • If you wish to only bring the water to the boil, simply touch the ON/OFF button. The appliance will switch off automatically, after reaching the boiling temperature (100°C). The actual temperature within the kettle will be shown on the display throughout the heating process.
  • You can heat the water to a desired temperature between 40°C and 100°C. Thus, you will get the optimum temperature for brewing your preferred type of tea or prepare drinks. For this, use the temperature selection buttons + and -.
  • Additionally, the water kettle can keep the water hot via the Keep Warm button. However, with this function a time limit of 4 hours is programmed to avoid excessive and needless energy consumption.

IMPORTANT: Please keep in mind that, due to the efficient thermal insulation, the water temperature within the kettle will still rise up a little after switching off (up to 15 °C). This depends on the selected temperature and amount of water. Thus, when preparing drinks or baby food, observe the temperature value shown on the display and check the actual water temperature before consumption or feeding. Additionally, be aware that the kettle is not really an exact temperature measuring device.

Note:

If the appliance is idle for more than 30 seconds, the display will get dark automatically to save energy. You can reactivate the display at any time by touching any button.

OVERHEAT PROTECTION

The »Design Water Kettle Advanced Thermo« is fitted with a self-resetting overheat protection device, which safeguards against overheating of the heating plate. Overheating may be caused by ...

  • too much scale on the heating plate. De-scale the kettle in time (see: 'Care and Cleaning').
  • too little water in the kettle. Always fill at least 0.2 litres (1 large coffee cup) into the kettle, before placing the kettle onto the power base. Keep in mind, that water will vaporize, when left on high temperature for a long time in the kettle while the lid is open. Always keep the lid closed during operation.

If overheating occurs, the kettle will automatically switch off the heating plate. In this case, remove the kettle from the power base and pour out the water. Then leave the kettle cool down by waiting approx. 15 minutes. Thereafter, you can reactivate the appliance.

BEFORE FIRST USE

⚠ WARNING: DO NOT let young children play with the appliance, or any part of it, or the packaging!

  1. Unpack the appliance and all accessories carefully and check that no parts are damaged or missing.

Carefully remove all shipping materials and promotional materials, but DO NOT remove the warning labels or model label. Especially ensure that there are no foreign objects (e.g. packaging) in the kettle.

  1. Before first use and after a longer period of storage, rinse the kettle thoroughly.
  2. The power cord of the power base is intentionally short to avoid that anyone will get entangled in the power cord or pull the power base by the power cord. To avoid loops, if the power cord is still too long, you may wind 1 turn (at the maximum!) of the power cord loosely around the cord storage at the bottom of the power base. Then guide the power cord through the notch in the rim to the power base bottom.

⚠ WARNING: Do not wind NO MORE THAN 1 TURN around the power cord storage to avoid overheating, electric shock, and fire.

  1. Fill the kettle up to the maximum filling level with clear, cold tap water and switch ON the appliance to bring the water to the boil. Thereafter discard the water. Leave the kettle cool down and rinse it again. The kettle is now ready for use.

OPERATION

⚠ WARNING: Always ensure that the appliance is out of reach of young children!

For operation, ensure that nobody will pull the appliance by the power cord. Always place the appliance on a stable, and level surface, where it will not wobble, tilt or fall over. Otherwise, hot, boiling water could splash and/or overflow causing severe scalds and damage.

The »Design Water Kettle Advanced Thermo« is heated by an integrated electric heating plate. Do not heat the kettle of the appliance using any other source of heat (e.g. range, microwave oven, fireplace). For filling, remove the lid. However, for operation, the lid must be closed securely. For filling and pouring, always remove the kettle from the power base. During operation steam may escape at the spout and from under the lid. Beware of hot water, condensate and steam, when pouring hot water and/or opening the lid shortly after operation. Do not hold your hands or face over the kettle during operation and shortly thereafter and when pouring hot water or opening the lid. Ensure to hold the kettle level, when it is filled. Do not place the kettle on moisture-sensitive or heat-sensitive surfaces after operation.

Do not connect the appliance via any multiple socket or extension cord to avoid the risk of overheating, fire, and electric shock. Only connect the appliance directly to a protected mains power supply connected separately from other power outlet sockets (see: 'Important Safeguards for Electrical Appliances').

Do not place any clothes, napkins, or other foreign objects on the kettle or power base or into the interior of the kettle. Do not use the power base and kettle in combination with any other, foreign parts or appliances.

The appliance is intended for heating clear, cold drinking water. Do not fill any other liquids or food into the kettle to avoid overheating and hazard of fire and electric shock! Always observe the minimum amount (0.2 Litre) and the MAX filling mark (1.7 Litre) at the interior of the kettle.

IMPORTANT: Wth the lid open during operation, the kettle will not switch off automatically and there will be high loss of energy. Thus, it is essential for operation to always close the lid.

Note:

The kettle will switch OFF automatically, when removed from the power base during operation. Thus, you can stop operation at any time by simply removing the kettle from the power base. If you wish to use the kettle again, simply place the kettle onto the power base and select the desired temperature function (see: 'Properties of Your New Water Kettle').

  1. Remove the kettle from the power base, and press the lid lock buttons to remove the lid. Fill in at least 0.2 litres (1 large coffee cup) of cold, clear drinking water via the top opening. You may fill the kettle up to the MAX filling mark (1.7 litres) within the kettle. After filling, place the lid in correct orientation onto the kettle (pouring button over the handle) and press the lid down until it settles with a click.
  2. Place the power base onto a suitable table or counter. Ensure that the exterior of the power base and kettle are clean and dry. Then place the kettle on the power base.
  3. Insert the power plug into a suitable wall power outlet. A signal sounds and the display illuminates.

Note:

With the kettle on the power base, the display shows the current temperature within the kettle. If you remove the kettle, the display will show 3 dashes. However, for saving energy, the display will go out after approx. 30 seconds, if the appliance is left idle. In this case, simply touch any button to reactivate the display. When selecting a temperature not more than 5°C different from the current water temperature shown on the display, the heating plate will not be activated.

  1. Select the desired function, as described below. You may select a special temperature or bring the water to the boil. Additionally, you may use the Keep Warm Function. However, you can cancel any heating process at any time by touching the ON/OFF button or removing the kettle from the power base. The indicators "HEAT" or "WARM" will be deleted from the display and the heating plate will be switched off.

IMPORTANT: Keep in mind, that hot steam can escape from the spout and under the lid, especially when opening the lid. Always stay in appropriate distance to the kettle during operation and shortly thereafter. Always ensure to hold the kettle level when it is filled with water, to avoid overflow. Avoid opening the lid, while the water within the kettle is still hot. Pour with the lid closed by pressing the pouring button.

⚠️ CAUTION: The selected temperature will not be met exactly. The actual water temperature will be shown on the display. Depending on the amount of water and selected temperature, due to the residual heat of the heating plate, the water temperature may rise up even after switching off. Thus, if you wish to use the water for drinks or for baby food and the like, before consumption ensure that the temperature is as desired.

BRINGING THE WATER TO THE BOIL

Simply touch the ON/OFF button to start the heating process.

The kettle will start heating immediately. The display will show the current water temperature, and "HEAT" will appear on the display. As soon as the water reaches the boiling temperature (100°C), a signal sounds and the heating plate is switched off automatically.

HEATING THE WATER TO THE DESIRED TEMPERATURE

Touch the temperature selection buttons + and/or - to set the desired temperature. A beep sounds with every entry. The selected temperature flashes 3 times on the display. Thereafter, the appliance starts heating. The current water temperature and the indicator "HEAT" are displayed.

You may change the set temperature any time. For this, simply touch the temperature selection buttons + or - to set the new temperature.

As soon as the kettle reached the selected temperature, the heating plate is switched off automatically. The display shows the actual temperature for approx. 30 seconds. Then the display gets dark to save energy. If you wish to check the current water temperature after the display has been switched OFF, shortly touch any button to reactivate the display.

USING THE KEEP WARM FUNCTION

Touch the Keep Warm button. The display shows "WARM". Use the temperature selection buttons + and/or - to set the desired temperature. The set temperature will flash 3 times. Then the kettle will start heating and "HEAT" is shown on the display.

As soon as the selected temperature is reached, the "HEAT" indicator disappears from the display and the heating plate is switched OFF automatically. The appliance monitors the water temperature and, if necessary, switches the heating plate on and off automatically, to maintain the set temperature.

Note:

You should not activate the Keep Warm Function thoughtlessly. The kettle is designed according to a vacuum flask. Depending on the amount of water and selected temperature, without any additional heating the kettle will keep the water warm for up to 1 hour. The maximum time limit of the Keep Warm Function is set to 4 hours to avoid useless energy consumption.

AFTER THE HEATING PROCESS

⚠ WARNING: When pouring hot water, large amounts of hot steam could escape. Leave the lid closed for pouring to avoid scalds. Instead, press the pouring button. The lid will not close water-tight. to avoid the build-up of high pressure during the heating process. Always keep the kettle in an upright position, when moving the filled kettle.

  1. Unplug the power base, if you do not wish to use the appliance again.
  2. Grasp the kettle by the handle and take the kettle off the power base. Be aware that the water could still be boiling within the kettle thus splashing out of the spout. Thus, press the pouring button several times before pouring. Pour hot water carefully by pressing the pouring button.
  3. We recommend to empty the kettle completely after each usage to avoid excessive build-up of scale within the kettle. Rinse the kettle with cold, clear tap water.

⚠ WARNING: To avoid the risk of overheating, fire and electric shock, always unplug the appliance when not in use.

Note:

During the heating process some condensate could build up on the base. This is normal and will not affect the performance of the appliance.

  1. After emptying, if you do not wish to use the kettle again, ensure that the power base is disconnected from the power supply. Then place the kettle back onto the base to protect the connectors of the kettle and the power base against dust, moisture, and damage.

Note:

If the kettle is switched ON with too less water in the kettle, the overheat protection will switch OFF the appliance almost immediately (see: 'Properties of Your New Water Kettle'). Leave the kettle cool down for at least 15 minutes, before switching on again.

CARE AND CLEANING

⚠ WARNING! After usage and several minutes thereafter, the lid and interior of the kettle may be very hot. Always switch OFF the appliance, unplug from the mains power supply and allow the kettle to cool down completely before cleaning the appliance. Always wipe off spilled water or condensate immediately. Do not spill or pour any liquids on the exterior of the kettle or power base. Do not immerse the kettle, power base, power cord, or power plug in water or any other liquid to avoid risk of electric shock. Do not place the appliance or any part of it in an automatic dishwasher.

⚠️ CAUTION: Do not use any hard or sharp-edged objects, corrosive chemicals, disinfectants, abrasive cleaners, or metal scouring pads for cleaning the appliance or any part of it. Do not poke with any foreign objects in the kettle, power base or the connectors of power base or kettle. Do not use violence.

The appliance does not need much care. Just rinse the interior of the kettle with clear tap water after usage, and descale the kettle regularly.

If required, wipe the exterior of the appliance using a soft, damp cloth moistened with a little dishwater. Then wipe with clear water and dry thoroughly. Do not use any corrosive or abrasive cleaners for cleaning.

Note:

Depending on the water hardness of your tap water, the kettle needs descaling regularly. See: 'Descaling'

Possibly, you will observe brownish spots within the kettle. However, this is not the result of any corrosion of the kettle but caused by iron-bearing lime.

DESCALING

⚠ WARNING: Do not breath in the vapours of any descaling solution to avoid severe injuries to your respiratory tracts. Always keep the lid closed during the descaling process, especially when the descaling solution is hot. Ensure good ventilation during the descaling procedure.

⚠️ CAUTION: Do not use any hard or sharp-edged objects, corrosive chemicals, disinfectants, abrasive cleaners, or metal scouring pads for cleaning the appliance or any part of it. Do not use any corrosive descaler with high acidity. Please use some plain vinegar or common descaling solution suited for electrical boilers. Do not use violence.

According to the water hardness of your tap water, lime/scale will build-up within the kettle during use, degrading the performance of the kettle and leading to discolouration. Remove these deposition according to the following instructions.

  1. Mix approx. 0.5 litres of vinegar and max. 1.2 litres water. Alternatively mix descaler for electrical boilers to get max. 1.7 litres of descaler solution. Pour the descaler solution into the kettle. The solution should cover the lime deposition completely. Close the lid firmly.
  2. Ensure good ventilation in the room and, via the temperature selection buttons, select 60°C. Wait until the kettle switches off automatically. Then unplug, and, for several hours (overnight), leave the descaling solution in the kettle with the lid firmly closed.
  3. Empty the water kettle and rinse with clear tap water thoroughly.
  4. Fill with clear tap water to the maximum filling level (1.7 litres / MAX). Using the ON/OFF button, bring the water to the boil. Then discard the hot water. Rinse again with clear tap water.
  5. If you notice still some smell of descaler within the kettle, repeat step 4, until the smell has vanished. Thereafter, the water kettle is ready for normal use again.

STORAGE

⚠ WARNING: Always switch OFF and unplug the appliance before storing to avoid hazards due to overheating, fire, and electricity.

Before storage, empty the kettle completely and clean the appliance (see: 'Care and Cleaning'). If you wish to store the appliance for a longer period of time, you should descale the kettle (see: 'Descaling').

If required, you may wind the power cord loosely around the cord storage at the bottom of the power base.

Ensure to store the appliance where it is clean, dry and safe from frost, direct sunlight and inadmissible strain (electric or mechanical shock, fall down/over) and where it is out of reach of young children. Do not place any hard or heavy objects on or in the appliance or on the power cord. It is good advice to place the kettle on the power base to protect the connectors from dust, moisture and damage.
