Frequently Asked Questions - Didi Caffe Borbone

What type of pods can I use with the Didi coffee maker?
Only 44 mm ESE pods should be used. Do not insert fingers or other objects into the pod compartment.
How do I descale the machine?
Descale every 3-4 months using a non-toxic descaling product for coffee machines. Pour the descaling solution into the water tank, dispense it intermittently, then rinse with fresh water. Do not use vinegar.
What does the LED indicator mean?
A slow flashing LED (1 sec on/off) indicates heating and stand-by mode. When the LED is steady, the machine is ready to dispense coffee. Fast flashing indicates professional mode (stand-by disabled).
How do I enable or disable the stand-by function?
With the machine off, press and hold the dispensing button while turning on the switch. The LED will flash slowly (stand-by active) or quickly (stand-by disabled). To change mode, press the dispense button again, then turn off and on to confirm.
What should I do if the machine does not turn on?
Check that the machine is properly connected to a power outlet and that the main switch is in the I position. If it still does not work, contact an authorized service center.
Why is the pump very noisy?
This is usually due to insufficient water in the tank. Fill the tank with fresh drinking water up to 2 cm below the edge.
How do I clean the pod holder?
Lift the lever, remove the steel shower filter, wash the seat and filter with a sponge and cold/warm water, then reassemble. Do not use solvents or aggressive chemicals.
Can I use regular coffee grounds instead of pods?
No, the machine is designed exclusively for 44 mm ESE pods. Using other materials may damage the machine and void the warranty.
What is the warranty period and what does it cover?
The warranty covers defects in construction, labour, and materials for 24 months from purchase. It does not cover consumables, limescale damage, or damage from improper use.
What should I do if coffee flows out from the edges?
This may indicate a dirty or worn boiler gasket. Contact an authorized service center for replacement.

MACHINE DISPOSAL END-OF-LIFE

Pursuant to art. 13 of Italian Legislative Decree 151/2005 “Implementation of Directives 2002/95/EC, 2002/96/EC and 2003/108/EC on the reduction of the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment and the disposal of waste”. The crossed-out bin symbol on the equipment or on its packaging indicates that the product, at the end of its useful life, must be collected separately from other waste. The user must therefore transfer the equipment at the end of its life to the appropriate electronic and electrotechnical waste collection centres, or return it to the retailer when purchasing a new piece of equipment of an equivalent type, on a one-to-one basis. Adequate separate collection for subsequent commissioning of the equipment disposed of for recycling, treatment and environmentally compatible disposal helps to avoid possible negative effects on the environment and on health and promotes the reuse and/or recy-

cling of materials that compose the equipment. Improper disposal of the product by the user entails application of the administrative sanctions provided for by the current legislation.

In addition, tampering, modifications not expressly authorised by the manufacturer, use in extreme environmental conditions, improper use with respect to what is provided for in this manual (e.g. the machine must only work with pods) and failure to comply with the instructions provided in the manual will also be considered cause for immediate revocation of the warranty. This warranty is valid from the moment the coffee machine becomes the property of the buyer/user, who undertakes to use it according to the recommendations of Didiesse S.r.l.

The company cannot in any way be held liable for any commercial and/or image damage

nor for damage to property and persons caused by improper use or connection of the coffee machine. Any dispute between Didiesse S.r.l. and the buyer will be resolved by arbitration or the Court of Naples will have jurisdiction. These points are extracted from the general terms and conditions of sale which form an integral and substantial part of the following paragraph.

CAFFEE BORRO

STAND-BY

The Didi espresso coffee machine is equipped with an electronic temperature management system. This system allows auto shutdown in the event of inactivity, thereby cancelling the power consumption. When the machine is switched on, the button LED on the front will flash slowly, 1 sec. on, 1 sec. off. This flashing indicates heating of the coffee group and the active home mode (stand-by active). Once the optimal temperature has been reached, the LED will stop flashing, instead emitting a steady light. Before this condition, it will not be possible to dispense coffee. If the machine remains unused for a period of 30 minutes, the electronic system will disconnect the voltage from the resistor.

Enable or disable the stand-by function by proceeding as follows:

  1. with the machine switched off, press and hold the dispensing button and simultaneously turn on the machine with the 0/1 switch located under the tank. The edge of the button will flash slowly.
  2. to change mode press the dispense button. The button will start flashing quickly. To confirm deactivation of stand-by, switch off the machine again with the switch under the tank. When powered back on, a quick flash will indicate that the operation was successful.

To return to home mode, repeat the power operation and press the dispensing button, remembering the flashing modes. Slow flashing indicates home mode (stand-by active) while fast flashing, professional mode (stand-by disabled).

8. Coffee dispensing

Caffe Borbone Didi - Coffee dispensing - 1

ATTENTION:

only pods with a diameter of 44 mm should be inserted into the pod compartment. Single-dose pods are designed to dispense only one coffee/product. Do not reuse them after use. Inserting 2 or more pods causes the machine to malfunction.

The following operations must be carried out in sequence:

  1. turn the closing lever from the bottom upwards and insert the pod into the pod-holder compartment located at the extraction chamber (see fig. 8-A);
  2. turn the closing lever downwards, to the point where it locks, signalled by a click;
  3. place the cup/glass under the coffee dispensing spout (see fig. 8-B);
  4. in any case check that the indicator light on the button is steady;

  5. press the coffee dispensing button and wait for the desired quantity to be dispensed (see fig. 8-C);

  6. at the end of dispensing the desired quantity of coffee, deactivate the dispensing button and raise the lever C upwards again, so that the pod can finally be removed from the compartment at the extraction chamber.

Empty and wash the collection tray on a daily basis (see fig. 5-A).

Each time a new pod is inserted, check correct insertion of the same in place: incorrect insertion could result in damage to the kinematics of the extraction chamber.

10. Decalcification

To avoid the formation of limescale (cause of pump breakage, pipe obstruction, etc.) it is advisable to perform a descaling treatment every 3 – 4 months.

To perform this operation yourself, it is possible to use a non-toxic and/or non-harmful decalcifying product for coffee machines, commonly available on the market, with the following methods of use:

  1. remove the tank, empty it if full, pour the entire contents of the decalcifier bottle into it;
  2. reposition the tank in place;
  3. press the dispensing button to pour the solution inside the machine;
  4. gradually remove the descaling solution by means of a container positioned under the coffee dispensing spout;
  5. intermittently dispense the descaling agent, approximately 75 ml at a time, leaving it to act for around 5 to 10 minutes and repeat the operation until the descaling solution is depleted;
  6. remove the tank, wash it with running water and reposition it in place;
  7. dispense approximately 1 water tank intermittently (30 seconds on - 30 seconds off);

  8. after completing these operations, refill the tank with drinking water to dispense the coffee.

Caffe Borbone Didi - Decalcification - 1

NOTE:

the procedure indicated refers to use of the BOMBA PLUS decalcifier, which can be purchased directly from our online store www.didiessesrl.eu.
