Frequently Asked Questions - FZN 2002-E Fieldmann

How do I assemble the hedge trimmer after unpacking?
First, rotate the rear handle 180° to the working position. Attach the guide handle by aligning the four openings and securing with screws. Then mount the protective shield using two screws. Always ensure the trigger lockout moves freely in three directions before use.
How do I start and stop the hedge trimmer?
To start, remove the blade guard, hold the guide handle and press its trigger lockout, then press the main trigger on the rear handle. The trimmer will start. To stop, release both triggers immediately. Always slide the blade guard over the cutter blades after switching off.
Can the cutting head be rotated for side trimming?
Yes, the cutting unit can be rotated ±90° using the rotating handle. First disconnect the mains plug, pull the slide button, and turn the handle to the desired position until it locks. The safety device prevents starting if not locked in 0° or ±90°.
How do I tilt the swivel head for high or low trimming?
Disconnect the plug, hold down the lock button on the swivel head, and tilt the head to the required angle (from +60° to -80° in 20° steps). Release the button to lock. The trimmer will not start if the button is pressed or not locked.
What safety precautions should I take while using the trimmer?
Always wear eye and ear protection, sturdy shoes, and gloves. Keep the power cable away from the cutting area. Never remove jammed material while blades are moving. Use an RCD with a tripping current ≤30 mA. Do not use in rain or wet conditions.
How do I clean and maintain the hedge trimmer?
Unplug the trimmer and slide the blade guard over the blades. Clean with a damp cloth. Regularly grease the cutter blades with low-viscosity oil, avoiding plastic parts. Check for loose screws and damage before each use.
What should I do if the hedge trimmer does not start?
Check that the extension cable is plugged in and undamaged. Ensure the cutting head is locked in 0° or ±90° for rotation, and the swivel head is locked in a position between +60° and -80°. Verify both trigger buttons are pressed correctly.
Can I use the hedge trimmer for trimming grass or composting?
No, the hedge trimmer is intended only for cutting hedges, shrubs, and low plants in gardens. Do not use it for mowing grass/lawn edges or cutting organic material for composting to avoid injury and damage.
How should I store the hedge trimmer when not in use?
Unplug the trimmer, clean it, and slide the blade guard over the cutter blades. Store in a dry, frost-free place out of reach of children. Coil the cable carefully without kinking.
Where can I get replacement parts or service?

Work Area Safety

* Keep the work area clean and well lit.
* Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
Do not operate electric tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust.
Electric tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
- Keep children and bystanders away while operating an electric tool.
* Distractions can cause you to lose control of the equipment.

Electrical Safety

Electric tool plug must match the mains outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adaptor plugs with earthed (grounded) electric tools.

Water entering a machine will increase the risk of electric shock.
Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the electric tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
* Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
When operating an electric tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use.
Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
If operating an electric tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply.

* Prevent unintentional starting of the tool. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and /or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool.
* Carrying electric tools with your finger on the switch or energising electric tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the electric tool on.
* A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tools may result in personal injury.
Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
This enables better control of the electric tool in unexpected situations.
* Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts.
- Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used.
Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

Electric Tool Use and Care

Do not force the electric tool. Use the correct electric tool for your application.
The correct electric tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
Do not use the electric tool if the switch does not turn it on and off.
* Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.

* Disconnect the plug from the power source and /or the battery pack from the electric tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing electric tools.
Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the electric tool accidentally.
Store idle electric tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the tool or these instructions to operate the electric tool.
Electric tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
* Maintain electric tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the electric tool efficiency. If damaged, have the electrical tool repaired before use.
* Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained electric tools.
* Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.
* Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
Use the electric tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed.
Use of the electric tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
Use the electric tools, accessories and tool bits in compliance with the mentioned instructions and with respect to the work area conditions and the type of work to be performed.
Use of the electric tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
