COMPONENT SYSTEMS
Thank you and congratulations on your purchase of this AXTON 2-way component system. This loudspeaker system uses very high quality parts and components only. As with all high-quality car audio components, professional installation is highly recommended. If you plan on installing this component system by yourself, please read the following installation guide carefully, before you attempt the installation. You should retain this manual, the packing and the purchasing receipt for future reference. For any further information about mounting, connecting or adjusting this speaker system, please contact your authorized AXTON dealer.
UNPACKING THE SYSTEM
Carefully remove the loudspeakers, crossovers and the accessories from the giftbox and check whether all parts are in good undamaged condition, and match with the set contents listed below:
■ 2 mid/woofers
■ 2 tweeters
■ 2 crossovers
■ 2 grilles for mid/woofers
■ 1 set of mid/woofer mounting hardware
■ 2 pcs tweeter flat surface mounting adapter
■ 2 pcs tweeter angled mounting adapter
■ 1 instruction manual with warranty card
Please contact your authorized AXTON dealer if the content of this set is incomplete or parts of it show signs of transport damage.
BEFORE YOU START
The first step is to choose the most suitable or best sounding location for the speakers to be installed. Keep in mind that the best looking spot might not be the one that gives you best sound. The factory OEM speaker cutouts usually provide space and a stable platform for fast and convenient mounting of new mid/woofer units. To use the OEM speaker cutouts is highly advantageous in most cases and it will also prevent you from having to cut new holes. For the tweeter mounting, some extra care to find the best spots will usually pay in form of improved front staging and better resolution.
MOUNTING THE MID/WOOFERS
Remove the factory grilles of the door - or if necessary - the complete door panels. The AXTON speaker baskets provide screw holes to fit a great variety of OEM standard patterns, making them ideal for a direct replacement of factory installed speakers in European or Asian cars.
■ Before you attempt to install the new AXTON mid/woofers, you must check the available installation depth of the left and right front door. To do this, slide down both windows and hold the AXTON mid/woofers in place to reassure the available installation depth does suffice. This test is important; failure to do this may let you end up with an impaired window function!
■ Connect the speaker cables to the cable lug pins of the bass-midrange speakers. Connect the other ends to the speaker output of the car radio or amplifier or, if available, to the original speaker cables. Note the polarities indicated and make sure everything is connected correctly. All speaker cables must be connected with correct polarity, i.e. plus to plus (big connector), minus to minus (small connector). Playback quality from speakers connected with reverse polarity is often dramatically poor. Missing bass, muddy mids or extremely diffuse sound are the result of unintentional polarity reversal of supply cables. If longer distances have to be bridged, e.g. if the power amplifier is located in the trunk, you should pay attention to a sufficiently high cross-section of the speaker cables. 2.5 mm² speaker cable cross-section is necessary here, thinner cables worsen the sound audibly.
■ The cone and surround material of the mid/woofers is 100% water proof. However, a direct exposure of the mid/woofer to water inside the doors should be avoided. In most cases, protection foils or baffles like ZEALUM ZN-SPB165 can be installed to protect the speaker.
☑ Check that there are no gaps between the speakers and the mounting surface in the doors. Absolutely airtight seating of the bass-midrange drivers is crucial for good bass response of the systems and prevents noise caused by air turbulence.
Note that some (newer) cars will require the use of car-specific mounting adapters made of plastic material. Without them, the mid/woofers will not fit to the OEM cutout, or the available installation depth will not be sufficient. Such adapters are usually available from your authorized AXTON dealer.
■ Fix the mid/woofer to the speaker mounting hole using the provided screws. If the mid/woofers are directly fixed onto the metal sheet of the door, use the metal clips included with the mounting hardware. You can now reinstall the factory plastic grilles or doors panels. In case you have chosen a new location for your mid/woofers (other than factory cut-out), use the speaker protection grilles.
TWEETER MOUNTING LOCATION
The tweeter positioning does exhibit a direct and profound influence on the front staging of your component system. Depending on the chosen location where the tweeters are installed, different loudness levels in the treble region will result. The tweeter level can be adjusted by a 2-way switch inside the x-over, to compensate for different mounting locations.
■ To determine the best tweeter location, it may be necessary to carry out short listening tests with the tweeter mounted to different locations inside the vehicle. For this, double sided tape can be used.
■ Set all tone controls, i.e. pre-EQ, treble / bass and loudness functions of your head unit to the neutral position first, before you attempt listening to the speakers installed in your car.
The influence of the tweeter mounting location on the front staging is profound – and care must be taken to achieve a good compromise between unobtrusive mounting and good sound quality.
Examples of different tweeter mounting locations, and the results that are most frequently obtained, are explained below:
1 A-Pillar
Best option concerning the depth of image and overall sound balance of the component system. Not that easy to get right, i.e. excessive mounting effort.
2 Dash Board
Sometimes aggressive and overly brilliant treble reproduction caused by the horn loading effects of the front window. Setting tweeter to -3 dB may help.
3 Window Triangles
Bright sound combined with a high soundstage, sometimes sounding a bit "nervous" with side biasing.
4 On the upper end of the door panel
Balanced sound, but with reduced sound staging and with side biasing.
5 Right on top of the mid/woofer
"Dull" sound, especially with a person sitting on the passenger's seat.
Note: An "on-axis" installation (with tweeters directly pointing at the listener) is not required, nor recommended.
Tweeters directly aiming at the listener's ears are usually responsible for the unwanted "side-biasing" effect, where the sound seems to originate from the drivers, instead of floating on top of the dashboard.
TWEETER INSTALLATION
There are various ways to install the tweeters. The box contains two different types of mounting adapters.
Flat Surface Mounting
The tweeter system consists of two parts: The main tweeter unit and the surface mount adapter.
Mark the location where you are going to mount the tweeters. Use the mounting adapter as a template and mark the hole with a bigger diameter for the cables and two 2.5 mm holes for the screws. Drill the holes on each side and mount the adapter with two countersunk screws. Feed the wire through the hole and connect it to the wire extension that goes to the crossover. Lock the tweeter by pushing it down into the mounting adapter.
Angled Mounting
The tweeter system consists of two parts: The main tweeter unit and the angle mount adapter.
This adapter provides two bearing surfaces with two possible radiation angles. Inside the adapter you can spot two areas with implied holes for the cable and the fixing screws. Chose the area you want the way to mount the adapter and drill out the holes completely: 6 mm for the cable and 2.5 mm for the screws. Mark the location where you are going to mount the tweeters. Use the mounting adapter as a template and mark the holes with a 6 mm diameter for the cables and two 2.5 mm holes for the screws. Drill the holes and mount the adapter with two countersunk screws. Feed the wire through the bigger hole and connect it to the wire extension that goes to the crossover. Lock the tweeter by pushing it down into the mounting adapter. Make sure the tweeter grill is horizontally in order that the diffusor can work properly.
Flush Mounting
After choosing the best mounting location, make sure there is at least 20 mm of clearance behind the mounting surface, before you start to mark or cut anything! Cut a hole with exactly 42 mm diameter into the mounting surface using a power drill and a circle cutter tool. Lock the tweeter by pushing it down into the hole. To definitely secure the tweeter in the hole you can fix it with hot glue from behind. Attach the wire to the extension cable that goes to the crossover.
CROSSOVER WIRING & MOUNTING
The crossover can be mounted in almost any location inside the vehicle. Recommended places are: Inside the door, under the carpet in front of the door angles, under the dashboard a.s.o. Just make sure not to install the crossover units where they may be exposed to dirt or excessive moisture / water. Connect the tweeter wires and the main wires coming from the amplifier or head unit to the crossover.
The woofers are either connected in parallel to the same channel or they get their own pair of channels to be able to adjust the level to the tweeter even more precisely (bi-amping mode).
Maintain polarities all the way – double check for correct connection. It is very important to make sure that all the connections are electrically in phase, which means positive wire (+ or red) is connected to positive terminal, and negative wire (- or black) is connected to the negative terminal. Reverse polarity connections of the tweeter will cause sharp sound and a messed up front staging. If longer distances from the amplifier to the crossovers have to be overcome, use good quality speaker cables with a minimum cross section of 2.5 mm2 . Failure to do so will affect sound quality in a negative way.
X-OVER ADJUSTMENTS
All AXTON component set crossovers come with two adjustment options that allow you to tailor the sound by setting slide switches on the pc board inside the housing, to compensate for different mounting locations of the speaker units, as follows:
Tweeter level
As a general rule of thumb, the -3 dB position is best for tweeters that are mounted very close to the listener's head like window triangles or top of the door panels.
The -0 dB position is usually the setting that provides a good tonal balance for most installs. It is recommended for the most tweeter positions.
Attention: The tweeter attenuation must be chosen identically on both crossovers. After completing the settings of tweeter attenuation and polarity, you can mount the crossover in place and reinstall all the other panels / factory grilles a.s.o. Your installation is now complete and therefore ready, to be checked out.
Tip: The most pleasant tweeter level is found when the system plays very quietly. The treble should then still be present, but not dominant.
TESTING THE INSTALLED SYSTEM
Slowly turn up the volume of your head unit and listen for distorted sounds. If everything appears to be okay and it just sounds right, check out the speaker balance of the left and right side by adjusting the balance control of your head unit. Shifting the balance to the left channel should provide you with sounds coming solely from the left speaker system, while shifting the balance to the right should do the same for the right speakers. If anything appears to be wrong, you must recheck the wiring of the x-overs, the amp or the mid/woofers.

WARRANTY CONDITIONS + LIMITATIONS
What products are covered by AXTON's limited Warranty?
The limited Warranty (the "Warranty") applies to AXTON products purchased from an authorized dealer by end customers in the European Economic Area or Switzerland ("Territorial Scope").
What is the validity period of AXTON's Warranty?
Under this Warranty, AXTON warrants, for a period of 2 years, that the product is free from defects in material and/or workmanship at the time of the original purchase. This 2-year period commences on the date of the original purchase as per the original invoice or until receipt. If you have purchased the product as a consumer, and the defect is identified within the first six months after the original purchase (see above), we will assume that the defect already existed at the time of purchase.
Who can claim under the Warranty?
AXTON grants the limited Warranty to natural persons only, who purchased the relevant product primarily for personal use.
What is covered by the Warranty?
AXTON warrants that the product is free from defects in material and/or workmanship at the time of the original purchase. AXTON does not, however, provide a warranty covering every defect and damage that may occur. It only covers the hardware components of the device, and in no event the software used with the device, regardless if this was provided by AXTON or the third-party vendor. The Warranty therefore does not cover the following cases, in particular:
• normal wear and tear (such as to surfaces and protective coverings).
• superficial damage, such as scratches, dents, and damaged plastic, worn or mechanically defective connections:
- misuse, including any treatment resulting in physical or superficial damage, such as a cosmetic defect, to the product:
- damage caused by connecting or using the product for a purpose other than those specified, or a failure to observe the operating and/or installation instructions for the particular model:
- Installation or use of the product contrary to the applicable technical standards, or the safety regulations in the country in which the product is installed or used;
• damage caused through an unauthorized attempted repair, or an attempted repair by someone other than a AXTON authorized service partner:
• damage caused by modifications to the product not expressly authorized by the manufacturer.
- damage caused by malicious code ("Software Viruses") or by using software not supplied with the product or which was incorrectly installed; - use of third party vendor software programs for editing, modifying, adapting, or extending AXTON's authorized software components as are run on the product.
- use of third-party vendor firmware/operating system software
• damage caused by liquids or chemicals of whatever type, and/or excessive temperatures, moisture, or damp;
- accidents, drops or other such effects of extreme accelerating forces;
- damage caused by lightning strikes, electrostatic charge, incorrect operating voltage, water, fire, force majeure, inadequate ventilation for other
reasons for which AXTUN is not responsible;
- damage caused by using the device outside of the defined specifications;
- damage caused by using the product with other systems or devices, which are not designed to be used with this product; - adjustments or modifications without AXTON's prior written approval, including product upgrades extending beyond the specifications or characteristics described in the operating manual;
- modifications of the product for the purpose of adapting it to national or local technical norms or safety standards of countries for which the
product was not expressly designed or manufactured; using service program parts not produced or distributed
- Using service of spare parts not produced or distributed by AKTRON, - Using the product in connection with accessories not approved for use with this product.
- using the product in connection with accessories not approved for use with this product,
AXTON, moreover, does not warrant (expressly, implicitly, statutorily, or otherwise) the quality, performance, reliability or suitability of the product for a particular purpose except as described, nor the software/firmware installed on the device ex works.
No warranty service will be provided, moreover, if the model number
/serial number/UUID/product number on the product is changed, erased, made illegible or removed. The same applies if the receipt or invoice is incomplete and/or illegible when presented.
Is AXTON liable for other defects or damage?
AXTON will repair or replace products, only if they are covered by the terms of this Warranty, AXTON is not liable for any material or intangible loss or damage such as the price paid for the product, loss of profits, revenue data, or relating to the enjoyment of the product or components associated with it, arising directly or indirectly under this Warranty or otherwise related to products or services. This likewise applies to loss on damage resulting to the impairment or operational failure of the product, devices associated with it, caused by defects or the non-availability of the damage resulting in the time it's with AXTON or AXTON's service partner, as well as a period of downtime and business interruptions. In addition, AXTON does not accept any liability for shipment-related risks - such as the loss or destruction of the product - in connection with the fulfilment of the Warranty.
This disclaimer applies to losses of damage irrespective of the legal basis, especially on the grounds of negligence, other wrongful conductortals, breach of contract, express or implied guarantees, and strict liability lessen if AXTON or its service partner has been advised of the possibility of such damage occurring.
If these disclaimers are prohibited or limited under the applicable law, AXTON will limit its Warranty and liability to the extent permissible under the applicable regulations. For example, some national laws prohibit the exclusion or limiting of damages payable in connection with negligence, gross negligence, will further wronging, deceitful conduct, and other such acts. For the duration of this Warranty, all liability that cannot be excluded completely will be limited to the extent permissible under the applicable law. Liability under this Warranty is limited to the price paid for the product. If the applicable law only permits higher limits on any liability, this higher limitation will apply.
How do I exercise my Warranty rights?
If you want to exercise your entitlements under this Warranty, please contact the authorized dealer where the product was purchased, and present it with the original copy of the till receipt or invoice. Do not return any products to AXTON directly, otherwise our Warranty obligations cannot be fulfilled. You will find the name of the relevant dealer or reseller on your proof of purchase.
Defective devices sent by the authorized dealer to the service center, must also be accompanied by any accessories with a logical connection to the observed fault. This means, for example, the navigation package on an SD or microSD card supplied or purchased with the device, if problems or functional errors were observed in connection with the navigation function.
How will AXTON fulfil its Warranty?
AXTON or its service partner will choose to either repair or replace the product or its defective parts covered by the Warranty, and assume the costs of material and labor in doing so.
Repairs under the Warranty must be carried out by AXTON or its authorized service partner. Products that are repaired or replaced may contain new and/or refurbished components and devices. Components that are swapped out will become the property of AXTON.
Will I incur any costs in connection with the Warranty service?
AXTON assumes the costs of material and labor in connection with its Warranty service. The Warranty holder is responsible for the costs of shipment and bears the risks connected with the shipment (see above). If the product is found to be operating faultlessly, or there is no warranty entitlement because the warrant period has expired or for any other reason, AXTON or its authorized service partner will be entitled to charge a flat-rate investigation fee of €30.00.
Do this Warranty affect my statutory or contractual rights?
This Warranty is made voluntarily by AXTON, and it will, in any case, extend your statutory rights. As a consumer, you remain fully entitled to your statutory rights, such as the statutory guarantee. This Warranty also has no effect whatsoever on your contractual rights against the reseller. You may continue to exercise these rights in full.
