Frequently Asked Questions - SDD230.4 EB SCHNEIDER

How do I set the temperature on the Schneider SDD230.4 EB fridge?
Turn the thermostat knob to a position between 1 and 7. Position 1 is the warmest, position 7 the coldest. For normal use, set to about 3-4. Allow 5 hours after first startup before loading food. The thermostat controls the compressor only; unplug to disconnect.
How do I defrost the freezer compartment?
Remove all frozen food and place in a cooler. Unplug the appliance and leave the freezer door open. Place a container to catch water. Do not use sharp objects or steam cleaners. Once ice melts, wipe dry and close door. Defrost when ice thickness exceeds 3 mm.
Why is my refrigerator making unusual noises?
Common noises include: clicking from the compressor turning on/off, humming from the compressor running, gurgling from refrigerant flow, and knocking due to expansion/contraction. Ensure the appliance is level and not touching walls or cabinets. If noise persists, check for loose items inside.
Can I change the door opening direction?
Yes, the hinge is reversible. Unplug the appliance, remove top hinge, middle hinge, and bottom hinge. Move door and hinge parts to the opposite side. Adjust to ensure proper seal. This should be done by a qualified professional to avoid damage.
How should I clean the refrigerator?
Unplug the appliance. Use a soft cloth with mild, non-abrasive detergent. Rinse with clear water and dry. Clean condenser coils twice a year with a vacuum. For interior, avoid solvents or harsh cleaners. Do not use steam cleaners.
What is the proper way to store food in this fridge?
Store fresh meat packaged for max 2 days, dairy and eggs in the main compartment, vegetables in the crisper. Freezer: store frozen food at -18°C. Do not refreeze thawed food. Let hot food cool before storing. Wrap food to avoid odour transfer.
How do I replace the interior light bulb?
Unplug the appliance. Remove glass shelves, then the plastic cover. Unscrew the old bulb and replace with a new LED bulb rated max 1.5W, 220-240V. Refit cover and shelves. Note: This bulb is not for household illumination.
What should I do if the fridge is not cooling enough?
Check if the door is properly closed and seals are intact. Ensure the temperature setting is not too warm (try position 4-5). Allow 24 hours after changes. Avoid overfilling and frequent door openings. If problem persists, defrost freezer if ice >3 mm or contact service.
Can I use an extension cord or power strip?
No. The appliance must be connected directly to a properly grounded dedicated socket (220-240V/50Hz). Do not use extension cords or multiplug adapters to avoid fire and electric shock hazards.
How can I reduce energy consumption?
Open the door as little as possible and close it quickly. Keep the appliance away from heat sources and direct sunlight. Set thermostat to a higher position if possible. Defrost when ice thickness exceeds 3 mm. Clean condenser twice a year. Allow hot food to cool before storing.

Ensure that food is well wrapped or covered before it is stored. This will prevent food from dehydrating, deteriorating in colour or losing taste and will help maintain freshness. It will also prevent odour transfer. Vegetables and fruit need not be wrapped if they are stored in the vegetable container of the fridge compartment.

Make sure that strong smelling foods are wrapped or covered and stored away from foods such as butter, milk and cream which can be tainted by strong odours.

Cool hot foods down before placing them in the fridge compartment.

Dairy foods and eggs

Most pre-packed dairy foods have a recommended „use by /best before/best by/date stamped on them. Store them in the fridge compartment and use within the recommended time.

Butter can become tainted by strong smelling foods so it is best stored in a sealed container.

Eggs should be stored in the fridge compartment.

Red meat

Place fresh red meat on a plate and loosely cover with waxed paper, plastic wrap or foil.

Store cooked and raw meat on separate plates. This will prevent any juice lost from the raw meat from contaminating the cooked product.

Poultry

Fresh whole birds should be rinsed inside and out with cold running water, dried and placed on a plate. Cover loosely with plastic wrap or foil.

Poultry pieces should also be stored this way. Whole poultry should never be stuffed until just before cooking, otherwise food poisoning may result.

Fish and seafood

Whole fish and fillets should be used on the day of purchase. Until required, refrigerate on a plate loosely covered with plastic wrap, waxed paper or foil.

If storing overnight or longer, take particular care to select very fresh fish. Whole fish should be rinsed in cold water to remove loose scales and dirt and then patted dry with paper towels. Place whole fish or fillets in a sealed plastic bag.

Keep shellfish chilled at all times. Use within 1 - 2 days.

Precooked foods and leftovers

These should be stored in suitable covered containers so that the food will not dry out.

Keep for only 1-2 days.

Reheat leftovers only once and until steaming hot.

Vegetable container

The vegetable container is the optimum storage location for fresh fruit and vegetables.

Take care not to store the following at temperatures of less than 7°C for long periods: Citrus fruit, melons, aborigines, pineapple, papaya, curettes, passion fruit, cucumber, peppers, tomatoes.

Undesirable changes will occur at low temperatures such as softening of the flesh, browning and/or accelerated decaying.

Do not refrigerate avocados (until they are ripe), bananas and mangoes.

Freezing and storing food in the freezer compartment

To store deep-frozen food.

To make ice cubes.

To freeze food.

Note: Ensure that the freezer compartment door has been closed properly.

Purchasing frozen food

Packaging must not be damaged.

Use by the „use by /best before/best by/“ date.

If possible, transport deep-frozen food in an insulated bag and place quickly in the freezer compartment.

Storing frozen food

Store at -18^ C or colder. Avoid opening the freezer compartment door unnecessarily.

Freezing fresh food

Freeze fresh and undamaged food only.

To retain the best possible nutritional value, flavour and colour, vegetables should be blanched before freezing. Aubergines, peppers, zucchini and asparagus do not require blanching.

Note: Keep food to be frozen away from food which is already frozen.

The following foods are suitable for freezing:

Cakes and pastries, fish and seafood, meat, game, poultry, vegetables, fruit, herbs, eggs without shells, dairy products such as cheese and butter, ready meals and leftovers such as soups, stews, cooked meat and fish, potato dishes, soufflés and desserts.

The following foods are not suitable for freezing:

Types of vegetables, which are usually consumed raw, such as lettuce or radishes, eggs in shells, grapes, whole apples, pears and peaches, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, sourd milk, sour cream, and mayonnaise.

Packing frozen food

To prevent food from losing its flavour or drying out, place food in airtight packaging.

  1. Place food in packaging.
  2. Remove air.
  3. Seal the wrapping.
  4. Label packaging with contents and dates of freezing.

Suitable packaging:

Plastic film, tubular film made of polyethylene, aluminum foil. These products are available from specialist outlets.

Recommended storage times of frozen food in the freezer compartment

These times vary depending on the type of food. The food that you freeze can be preserved from 1 to 12 months (minimum at -18°C).

FoodStorage time
Bacon, casseroles, milk1 month
Bread, ice cream, sausages, pies, prepared shellfish, oily fish2 months
Non-oily fish, shellfish, pizza, scones and muffins3 months
Ham, cakes, biscuits, beef and lamb chops, poultry pieces4 months
Butter, vegetables (blanched), eggs whole and yolks, cooked crayfish, minced meat (raw), pork (raw)6 months
Fruit (dry or in syrup), egg whites, beef (raw), whole chicken, lamb (raw), fruit cakes12 months

Never forget:

When you freeze fresh foods with a „use by /best before/best by/“ date, you must freeze them before this date expires.

Check that the food was not already frozen. Indeed, frozen food that has thawed completely must not be refrozen.

Once defrosted, food should be consumed quickly.
