Frequently Asked Questions - System 6000 Dormakaba

What software is required for the System 6000 encoder?
The encoder requires System 6000 version 5.6.8 or greater and encoder firmware version 1.012 or greater to function correctly.
How do I connect the encoder for configuration?
Connect the encoder to your computer using a USB A to Micro B cable (P/N 71680). For operation, you can use either USB or Ethernet with POE. Do not connect both cables simultaneously.
What ports need to be open in the firewall?
Ensure TCP port 28000 (server inbound) and TCP port 9090 (server inbound) are open in your firewall for communication.
How do I configure the encoder?
Open the CRS program, go to Settings and choose 'Add'. Select Kaba RFID as Network Encoder Type, then configure the encoder with the desired IP settings (DHCP or static) and Station ID.
The encoder is not detected. What should I do?
Check that the USB cable is properly connected, ensure the Kaba Encoder USB Bridge Service and Kaba IP Encoder Service (KIPES) are running, and verify that CRS is running. Restart the encoder and PC if needed.
Can I use a third-party USB cable?
No, use only the supplied USB A to Micro B cable (P/N 71680). Third-party cables may not function properly.
How do I test the encoder after setup?
Log into the Client program, go to System > Terminal Settings, set the Encoder Station to the new Station ID, then attempt a key interrogation to verify the connection.
What is the difference between TCP/IP and USB configuration?
In TCP/IP mode, the encoder communicates over Ethernet using POE. In USB mode, it uses a direct USB connection to the PC. Do not connect both cables; choose one mode.
How do I assign a static IP to the encoder?
During configuration, select 'Use the following addresses' and enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway manually.
Where can I get support for the System 6000 encoder?

Troubleshooting

USB cable must be attached whenever you are configuring the encoder.

After Configuration: Connect a USB Cable for USB communication or an Ethernet cable with POE for TCP/IP communication.

**Do not connect USB cable to PC when configured for TCP/IP communication**

**If ethernet connection is not POE, use the included USB power adapter for power**

Connection Issues:

  • Ensure the encoder's Station ID is selected in the Client Terminal Settings
  • Ensure that Kaba Encoder USB Bridge Service is running
  • Ensure that Kaba IP Encoder Service is running (KIPES)
  • Ensure the CRS is running
  • Ensure you are using the correct cable (USB or Ethernet)
  • Confirm that the minimum prerequisite software (System 6000 5.6.8.0) and firmware (Encoder V.1.012) is installed
  • Remove the power from the encoder, wait five seconds and power it back up (Repeat as necessary)
  • Restart KIPES and Kaba Encoder USB Bridge Service
  • Restart PC

Configuration Issues:

  • Make sure that the encoder is not already assigned in the CRS
  • Make sure that the USB cable (P/N 71680) is attached. (Third party cables may not function properly)
  • Ensure station ID entered was less than 16 characters
  • If server not correctly assigned on workstation, do the following: Edit the Saflok.ini file located in the SaflokV4 folder to enter the server IP address under the database section. Save the file and test encoder function.
