Frequently Asked Questions - DM 101 CANTON

How do I pair my smartphone via Bluetooth?
Select the BT input on the soundbar, then press the Bluetooth® Pairing button on the remote. BTP appears on the display. Within 30 seconds, search for 'DM 101' on your device and select it. If a PIN is required, enter 0000.
Why is there no sound from the soundbar?
Check if the sound format of your source is set correctly (the DM 101 does not support DTS). Ensure the source is outputting audio and the cable is properly connected. Also verify that the optical cable's protective caps are removed.
Can I control the soundbar with my TV remote?
Yes, use the IR learning function. Press and hold the ON/Standby button on the soundbar remote for 5 seconds until IRL flashes. Then press the desired function on the soundbar remote (e.g., Volume +) and within 20 seconds press the corresponding key on your TV remote. Repeat for other functions.
How do I activate an external subwoofer?
Enter the Extended sound functions menu by pressing and holding the Sound button for 3 seconds until LIP appears. Press Sound again to cycle to SUB, then use Volume + to turn it ON. Note: when activated, the soundbar's bass is limited to 80 Hz.
What is the ECO standby function?
When enabled (ON), the soundbar automatically switches to standby after 1 hour if no signal is detected on the selected input. It can be adjusted in the setup menu (press and hold Play Mode for 3 seconds, then navigate to ECO).
How do I reset the soundbar to factory settings?
Press and hold Play Mode for 3 seconds until SLP appears, then press Play Mode repeatedly until RES shows. Press Volume + to see NO, then again to confirm YES. Wait 10 seconds for reset. Warning: all personalized settings, learned IR codes, and paired devices will be deleted.
Why does the soundbar turn off by itself?
This is likely due to the ECO standby (after 1 hour) or AUT function (after 1 minute of no signal). You can disable these in the setup menu: press and hold Play Mode for 3 seconds, then navigate to ECO or AUT and set them to OFF.
How can I improve speech clarity on the soundbar?
Use the Voice function in the Extended sound functions menu. Press and hold Sound for 3 seconds, then press Sound repeatedly until VOI appears. Use Volume + to activate it (ON). This enhances dialog intelligibility in both stereo and surround modes.
What inputs does the DM 101 support?
The DM 101 has three inputs: TV (optical/Toslink), DVD (coaxial digital), and AUX (analog RCA). There is also a SUB OUT for an external subwoofer. Bluetooth is available as a fourth input.
How do I set the sleep timer?
Press and hold Play Mode for 3 seconds until SLP appears. Then press Volume + to cycle through options: OFF, 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes. The timer deactivates after the soundbar is turned off and must be set again each time.

Connection

Please ensure that all electrical components are switched off before connecting. Your Digital Movie System has three optional inputs. In principle it is enough to connect one of these inputs to your TV and all further devices to your TV. To achieve the best possible sound we recommend that you connect your satellite receiver, Blu-Ray or DVD player directly to the DM system. The following options are possible, depending on the type and fittings of the source used:

Digital input (optical)

Modern TV devices have an optical audio output (Toslink). Connect this with the input marked "TV" on the DM system. This connection guarantees optimal signal transmission and best sound quality.

Important: Remove protective caps from optical cable.

Digital input (coaxial)

To transmit the DVD sound signal connect the digital coaxial output of your Blu-Ray or DVD player with the jack marked "DVD" on the DM system. To transmit the picture signal your DVD player must also be connected to the TV. The input marked "DVD" on the DM system can be selected if your TV does not have an optical output.

Analog input

If your TV only has an audio output marked "Pre-Out" then connect it using the shielded stereo RCA cable plugged into the analogue input on the DM system marked "AUX". Otherwise this input can be used to connect video recorders or game consoles.

Analog output

Use this output when you want to connect an external active subwoofer. SUB OUT is not active in the basic setting and needs to be activated using the remote control. See page 44 "Extended sound functions".

Extended sound functions

The menu for extended sound functions offers you

– the chance to correct out-of-synch playback
- to activate the output for a wired external subwoofer
– to adjust the playback to suit the location
- to switch the Dolby function "Dynamic Range Compression" on or off
– to limit the maximum settable playback volume
– to improve the speech intelligibility

If you press and hold the key marked "Sound" on the remote control for longer than 3 seconds you will enter the "Extended sound functions" menu and the display LIP will appear on the Soundbar.

You can now use the "Volume +/-" keys to delay the playback in 10 ms steps to synchronise the sound with the "delayed" image.

Press the "Sound" key briefly once more and the display 5u8 will appear.

The "Volume +/-" keys can also be used to switch the output for an external subwoofer on or off. Please note: when the SUB OUT is activated the playback of the Soundbar will be limited to 80 Hz. Frequencies below 80 Hz are sent to the external subwoofer.

Press the "Sound" key again briefly one more time and the display EQ will appear.

Now use the "Volume +/-" keys to choose between three pre-set equalizer settings to adjust the playback to suit the location.

E01 for a free-standing DM system e.g. on a sideboard with a flat-screen TV on the wall (factory setting).

EQ1 for a set-up where a flat-screen TV is positioned on top of the DM system.

EQT for a set-up where the DM system is in a rack or on a shelf.

When the "Sound" key is pressed again the display changes to ORC.

"Dynamic Range Compression" is a setting option created by Dolby Laboratories. When activated, the dynamic range of Dolby encoded data streams can be automatically reduced, which also reduces differences in volume. This makes it possible to enhance quiet tones and suppress loud ones.

The "Volume +/-" keys can be used to switch the ORC function on or off.

After pressing the "Sound" key again, the display switches to VOL.

You can limit the maximum settable volume with the (protective) function "Volume" in such a way that the sound level (shown in the display) cannot be turned up above the set value.

You can then use the "Volume +/-" keys to set the desired volume (0 - 99 with 99 representing the maximum).

TV remote control

Comment: The automatic switching on/off function only works for optical and coaxial digital input or via Bluetooth® wireless technology. If the device is set to standby mode using the "ON/Standby" key on the remote control it is not possible for the device to switch on automatically.

The device only identifies a signal at the selected digital input or Bluetooth ^® input. A signal that appears at the other than the selected input cannot be detected.

If the SEL function is also activated, the device can be switched on independently from the selected input by starting the playback on the mobile device.

ECO Standby (ECO)

When this function is activated (ON), the device automatically goes into standby mode if no signal is detected on the selected input for one hour. When this function is deactivated (OFF), the DM system has to be switched off manually.

The device is supplied with this function activated (ON).

To activate/deactivate this function proceed with the following steps:

1 With the device switched on, press and hold the "Play Mode" key for more than 3 seconds, until SLP appears on the display.
2 Press the "Play Mode" key again briefly, until ECO appears on the display.
3 Press the "Volume +" key to activate the function (ON).
4 Press the "Volume -" key to deactivate the function (OFF).
5 Exit the menu by again pressing and holding the "Play Mode" key for more than 3 seconds. If no input has appeared within 10 seconds the device will automatically exit the configuration menu.

Comment: This function is automatically deactivated for the input TV (optical), DVD (coaxial) and BT when the AUT function (Page 53) is activated.

Automatic selection of BT input (SEL)

When this function is activated (AUT), the DM system automatically switches to the BT input when it detects an audio signal from a mobile device. When this function is deactivated (MAN) the input must be selected manually.

Configuration of inputs (INP)

In the delivery state all physically available inputs are supplied with a source designation. These are as follows: Optical (OPT) = TV, Coaxial (COA) = DVD, Analog (ANA) = AUX, Bluetooth ^® = BT. You can change the name allocated to a particular input to suit your source device. To change the description follow the steps below:

1 With the device switched on, press and hold one of the two "Input" buttons for more than 3 seconds until INP appears in the display.
2 Now press briefly on one of the two "Input" buttons to select the desired physical input (OPT, COA, ANA).
3 Press one of the "Volume" buttons briefly to choose the desired description. You can choose from the following pre-defined descriptions: "---" (Input deactivated), TV, BDB, SAT, CD, DVD, CAM, REC, PAD, POD, TAB, TUN, DAB, PS, VCR, ATV, PC, AUX.

To give another input a new designation, repeat steps 2 and 3. Press and hold one of the two "Input" buttons for more than 3 seconds again to leave the menu. If there is no input within 10 seconds the device will automatically leave the Configuration menu.

Note: Inputs that are deactivated “---”, will no longer be shown when switching through the inputs (Input button). This makes it easier for you to select the desired input.

Comment: The designation for the BT input cannot be changed. if you have deactivated all inputs, BT (Bluetooth®) will be the fixed input.

IR learning function

The DM system can learn the infrared code of your TV remote control and therefore allows you to control the functions of the Soundbar and TV device via one remote control. You can allocate any key of the TV remote control to the soundbar. When choosing a key make sure that the instructions for the Soundbar do not conflict with the TV device. We recommend that you deactivate the internal loudspeaker of the TV device once the Soundbar is connected.

1 Hold the TV remote control in position.
2 Switch the Soundbar on.
3 Press and hold the "On/Standby" key of the Soundbar remote control for approx. 5 seconds.
4 The display shows a flashing IRL.
5 Press the wanted function on the Canton remote control e.g. "Volume +".
6 Now the display shows the chosen function, e.g. . +
7 Within 20 seconds press the key you wish to allocate to this function on the TV remote control.
8 Once this has been successfully allocated the display will show OK and you can continue with the programming of the next key function, e.g. "Volume –"
9 If the display shows FAI this means the allocation has failed and you need to repeat steps 5 to 8.

Note: The red "On/Standby" key on the DM remote control has a dual function. Press it once and the display will show ON which allows the switching on function to be programmed. If the red "On/Standby" key on the DM remote control is pressed twice in quick succession the display will show SIB and the Standby resp. switching off function can be programmed. If your TV remote control has only one key for the "On" and "Off" functions both the "On" and "Standby" functions must still be allocated with this command.

English

Exit menu

Press and hold the "ON/Standby" key again for longer than 5 seconds to exit the "IR learning function" menu. If the Soundbar does not receive any input instructions from the remote control within a period of 60 seconds the menu navigation returns to normal mode automatically.

Direct selection of the signal inputs

In addition to the INPUT ↑ and INPUT ↓ function, you can directly select the signal inputs TV, DVD, AUX and Bluetooth® when using your TV or universal remote control. That means you can allocate the desired input to a key on your remote control.

1 While you are still in the IR learning menu, press one of the Input keys on the Canton remote control for 3 seconds to access the direct selection menu. DVD flashes in the display.
2 You can now allocate the "DVD" input to a key on your TV remote control. Note: If you press this key on the remote control while the speaker is in normal mode, the DM system switches directly to the DVD input.
3 Press the desired key on the remote control. If the infrared (IR) code has been successfully stored by the DM system, OK appears briefly in the display followed by the next input TP.

4 If the code has not been stored or if you do not press any key on your remote control within 10 seconds, FRI appears briefly in the display to indicate that no code has been stored. DVD then flashes again in the display and you can store the code for the DVD input, once again.
5 If you do not want to allocate a key to the DVD input, briefly press the INPUT ↑ key to manually access the TV input.
6 To allocate the TV, AUX and/or Bluetooth inputs to a key on your remote control, repeat steps 2 to 5.

7 To exit the direct selection menu, press one of the two input keys again for 3 seconds to access the higher level IR learning menu IRL. If you press the "ON/Standby" key for 3 seconds while still in the direct selection menu, the system switches from this menu to the normal mode. FIN appears briefly in the display to indicate that the IR learning mode has ended.

Note: Due to the variety of infrared codes it is not possible to guarantee that every IR remote control signal can be learned by the DM system. Signals from radio frequency (RF) remote controls cannot be learned!

IR delete function

To delete the TV remote control commands learned by the DM system you need to follow these steps:

1 Switch the Soundbar on.
2 Press the "On/Standby" key on the Soundbar remote control for approx. 5 seconds.
3 The display will flash IRL.
4 Press the "Mute" key of the Soundbar remote control for approx. 5 seconds.
5 The display will show CLR. for approx. 5 seconds. The Soundbar will then switch automatically back to normal operation.
