DEAR CUSTOMER!

Despite of simply bringing clear drinking water to the boil, the electronic Water Kettle Colour Vision Pro can heat water to a pre-selected temperature in the range from 50°C to 85°C. The current water temperature in the kettle is indicated via a coloured illumination of the water level in the kettle and a display in the handle. The selected water temperature can be maintained for up to 30 minutes, using the keep-warm function. Using the special purify function, the kettle will boil the water for 3 minutes for purification. Acoustic signals are issued on the various steps and cycles of operation.

An automatic shut-off function switches off the heating elements as soon as the selected operating cycle is complete avoiding useless energy consumption.

We hope that you will enjoy your new Water Kettle.

HIGH TEMPERATURE—RISK OF BURNS

⚠ WARNING! The Water Kettle Colour Vision Pro is equipped with electric heating elements for bringing water to the boil. Thus, the appliance could cause severe scalds, burns and damage, when used improperly.

- Always hold the kettle level when filled, to avoid spilling. The appliance and the contents will be hot even for some time after operation. Always leave the appliance cool down to room temperature, before inserting or removing the water filter, cleaning, or storing the appliance.

- Even with the lid properly closed, hot steam and splashes of hot water could escape during operation. Do not hold your face or other parts of your body over or directly near the appliance during operation and while the appliance is still hot to avoid scalds due to steam and splashes of hot water.

- Even the exterior of the appliance will get very hot during operation. Only touch the appliance at the operating elements and the handle, when it is hot. Before pouring, wait until the water has stopped boiling and then pour carefully to avoid spilling. If the kettle is tilted too much, the water could run out besides the spout, thus getting spilled. Always keep the lid closed during operation and when the water is boiling or still very hot, to avoid scalding.

- Always keep the appliance in sufficient distance to the edge of the table or counter and to other objects. Leave at least 20 cm of free space on each side, to avoid damage due to steam and hot water. Do not operate the appliance under overhanging boards and drop-lights or near any delicate objects (e.g. curtains) to avoid damage due to hot steam and water, overheating, and fire.

- Do not hold your hands or any foreign objects (e.g. clothes, brushes) into the interior of the kettle with the appliance connected to the power supply.

PROPERTIES OF YOUR NEW WATER KETTLE

Your new Water Kettle Colour Vision Pro is intended for heating up drinking water to a selectable temperature in the range between 50^ C to boiling temperature ( 100^ C). The selected temperature can be maintained for up to 30 minutes. Thereafter, the appliance will shut-off the heating elements automatically.

IMPORTANT: Always close the lid for operation. With the lid open, the temperature control and automatic shut-off will not work properly and there will be high energy loss.

IMPORTANT: Depending on the water hardness of your drinking water, the appliance needs regular de-scaling (see: 'Care and Cleaning'). Otherwise, the temperature control will not work properly, there will be an increasing energy loss, and overheating of the heating elements could occur.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL FUNCTIONS

  • If you wish to bring the water to the boil, press the ON/OFF button. Shortly after the boiling temperature is reached, the heating elements will shut-off automatically and the illumination of the kettle will go out. However, the actual water temperature will still be indicated on the display.
  • When starting the purify function instead, the kettle will boil the water for 3 minutes. This way, you will get a purified, sterilized water.
  • Additionally, the kettle can heat up the water to a selected temperature (see table

below) and keep this temperature automatically for up to 30 minutes (keep-warm function). Thereafter, the appliance will shut off the heating elements automatically to avoid excessive energy loss.

The pre-programmed temperature values correspond to the optimum temperature values for boiling various types of tea. See the following table:

Temperature Colour of the Kettle Accessible via this button Type of Tea
50°C (122°F) cyan Temperature selection
60°C (140°F) blue Temperature selection
70°C (160°F) violet Temperature selection Green Tea
85°C (185°F) red Temperature selection White Tea, Oolong Tea
100°C (212°F), Boiling red ON/OFF or Purify Black Tea, Coffee

DISPLAY

During heating (the kettle is illuminated) and after the automatic shut-off of the heating elements (illumination of the kettle gets dark), the actual water temperature in the kettle is shown on the display.

Note:
With the actual water temperature below 40°C, the display will show "LO".

When using the ON/OFF button or purify button to bring the water to the boil, the illumination of the kettle will show the current water temperature via various colours continuously changing with the water getting hot: green (up to 40°C), cyan (40-50°C), blue (50-60°C), violet (60-70°C), purple (70-80°C), red (85-100°C).

When using the keep-warm function, the kettle will be illuminated according to the selected water temperature as given in the table above. Additionally, the selected temperature will be shown via a red point on the top line of the display, under the list of possible temperature values, and during temperature setting, will flash on the display.

In addition, beeps will sound on various points of operation and when pressing a button.

WATER FILTER

The appliance is equipped with a removable fine mesh water filter to retain particles of scale and prevent them from falling into your cup when pouring. This filter neither treats nor removes the hardness of the water. It thus conserves all the qualities of the water. With very hard water, the filter may clog within 10 to 15 uses.

IMPORTANT: The water filter needs cleaning and de-scaling regularly (see: 'Care and Cleaning').

POWER CORD

A short power cord is provided to reduce the risks of becoming entangled in or tripping over a long power cord accidentally. For adapting the length of the power cord to your requirements, you may wrap max. 1 turn of the power cord around the cord storage at the bottom of the base. Then fix the power cord in the notch at the rim of the base.

⚠ WARNING: For operation, ensure that NO MORE THAN 1 TURN of the power cord is inserted in the cord storage to avoid hazard due to overheating, fire, and electric shock.

SELF-RESETTING OVERHEAT PROTECTION

The water kettle is fitted with a self-resetting overheat protection device, which safeguards against overheating of the heating elements. Overheating may be caused by ...

  • too much scale on the heating elements. De-scale the kettle in time (see: 'Care and Cleaning').
  • too little water in the kettle. Always observe the MIN filling level (0.5 litre). Keep in mind, that water will vaporize, when left for a long time in the kettle on high temperature.
  • if overheating occurs, the kettle will automatically switch off the heating elements. In this case, remove the kettle from the base and pour out the water. Then leave the kettle cool down by waiting approx. 15 minutes. Thereafter, you can reactivate the appliance.

CHECKING THE KETTLE FOR LEAKAGE

The water kettle is manufactured using high-grade materials for ensuring high working life. Nevertheless, by mechanical shock or using inadequate solutions for de-scaling, the seals of the kettle could get damaged. For this, you should check the kettle for leakage regularly. This holds especially, if water accumulates under the appliance or the exterior of the kettle gets wet during operation.

Thoroughly dry the exterior of the kettle and fill in 1.5 litre clear tap water (up to the MAX filling level). When doing so, ensure that no water is spilled on the exterior of the kettle.

Place the kettle on a clean, dry, and level tray and leave the kettle stand for several hours (over night).

Carefully examine the kettle and the tray. If water is accumulating around the kettle or drops are on the exterior of the kettle, the kettle is leaking and may not be used again.

BEFORE FIRST USE

⚠ WARNING: DO NOT let young children play with the appliance, or any part of it, or the packaging! Always unplug the appliance before cleaning it, and when it is not in use. Do not place or immerse the appliance (base and kettle) or power cord in water or other liquids or spill any liquids on the base, power cord, or the exterior of the water kettle. For operation, ensure that NO MORE THAN 1 TURN of the power cord is inserted in the cord storage to avoid hazard due to overheating, fire, and electric shock. Do not use any abrasive or corrosive cleaners for cleaning to avoid damage to the surfaces. Do not place the appliance or power cord in an automatic dishwasher.

Note:

The selected temperature may be modified at any time by pressing the temperature selection button several times until the new temperature is shown. The heating cycle may be stopped at any time by removing the kettle from its base, or by pressing the temperature selection button until the kettle is switched off (the illumination of the kettle goes out and the red dot on the top line disappears).

Note:

Even with the heating elements switched OFF after completion of the keep-warm cycle, the display will continue to show the current water temperature within the kettle for another 30 minutes. Thereafter, the kettle will automatically switch OFF completely and even the display gets dark.

COMBINING FUNCTIONS

The functions of the water kettle may be combined. You can start a normal boiling cycle (see: 'Boiling Function' or 'Purify Function') followed by a keep-warm cycle. The keep-warm cycle lasts for 30 minutes and keeps the water at the desired temperature (see: 'Keep-Warm Function').

For example:

  • Use the temperature selection button to select the desired temperature and activate the keep-warm function. The temperature selection button is illuminated.
  • Press the ON/OFF button or purify button to activate the appropriate function. The corresponding button is illuminated.
  • The water kettle will bring the water to the boil first. Then the keep-warm function will start, keeping the water at the selected temperature for up to 30 minutes.

Note:

You may switch OFF any of the selected functions separately by pressing the corresponding button, when it is still illuminated. To switch OFF the kettle completely, it is best to simply remove the kettle from its base.

SOLVING PROBLEMS

If any problems occur during operation, you will find the solution in the following table.

Problem Reason The Solution
The display remains dark. No signal sounds, when placing the kettle on the base. The appliance is not live. Ensure thatthe appliance is connected to a suitable wall power outlet. Ensure that the wall power outlet is live by connecting a lamp.
Check, if the kettle is connected correctly to the base. Turn it a little.
A severe problem occurred. Immediately take the kettle off the base and unplug the base. Get in contact with an authorised service centre for examination and repair.
The kettle is placed on the base and plugged in, but the display is dark. The automatic shut-off has been triggered. After being idle for 30 minutes, the kettle will switch OFF completely to save energy. Simply press a button or shortly lift the kettle from the base to reactivate it.
The beep sounds continuously and the display does not light up.The overheat protection system has been triggered. The kettle has been operated without water or with too low filling level. Leave the kettle cool down for 15 minutes. Then fill with cold water and try again.
Too much scale has accumulated on the heating elements, causing overheating. De-scale the kettle (see: ‘De-scaling the Kettle’).
The water tastes of plastic. This could happen, when the kettle is new.Prepare the appliance for use, as described in chapter ‘Before First Use’. If the problem persists, fill the kettle with 1.5 litre of water adding 2 teaspoons of baking soda. Run the purify function and discard the water thereafter. Rinse the kettle thoroughly with clear tap water.
Water accumulates under the base or runs down on the exterior of the kettle. There is too much water in the kettle.Immediately unplug the appliance. Then wipe dry the appliance completely. Always observe the MAX filling level when filling (1.5 litres).
You spilled some water when filling or moving the kettle.Immediately unplug the appliance. Then wipe dry the appliance completely. Ensure not to spill water on the exterior of the kettle when filling. Always ensure to hold the kettle level when filled.
The kettle is leaking. Immediately unplug the appliance. Then check the kettle for leakage (see: ‘Checking the Kettle for Leakage’). Do not use the appliance, if the kettle is leaking.
The base gets unexpectedly hot during operation. The power socket in the centre of the base or the pins at the bottom of the kettle are damaged or corroded.Immediately unplug the appliance. Check the power connection at the bottom of the kettle and the power socket of the base for discolouration, distortion or corrosion. Do not use the appliance again, if the pins are not smooth and clean. There is no use in trying to clean or repair the pins of the power connector as the power socket in the base will be affected as well.

CARE AND CLEANING

⚠ WARNING: Always switch OFF (lift the kettle from the base), unplug, and leave the appliance cool down, before removing or inserting the water filter, and before cleaning the appliance. Always ensure that all parts of the appliance are out of reach of young children.

Do not spill or pour any liquids on or in the base or power cord. Do not place or immerse the appliance or any part of it in any liquids to avoid damage, risk of fire, and electric shock. Especially keep the power socket at the base and the power connector in the bottom of the kettle always completely dry. Do not attempt to clean the power socket or the power connector, to avoid damage.

Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or aggressive liquids (e.g. bleach, solving agents) for cleaning the appliance or any part of it, to avoid damage to the surfaces and seals. Do not use any hard or sharp-edged objects for cleaning (e.g. scoring pads, knives, scrapers).

DO NOT clean the kettle, base or power cord in an automatic dishwasher! Do not use violence.

Depending on the water hardness and the frequency of usage, the interior of the kettle gets coated with grey or sand-coloured scale. To keep the appliance always ready for usage, and to avoid damage to the heating elements, you should de-scale the kettle in time (see: 'De-scaling the Kettle'). However, do not use any de-scaling solution not recommended in this booklet, to avoid damage to the walls and seals of the kettle.

Do not breath-in any vapours escaping from de-scaling solutions to avoid injuries to your respiratory tracts. Always ensure good ventilation during de-scaling.

CLEANING THE APPLIANCE

  1. Always remove the kettle from the base, unplug, and leave the appliance cool down to room temperature, before removing or inserting the water filter, and cleaning the appliance, and when the appliance is not in use.
  2. Open the lid of the kettle and pull the upper rim of the water filter out of the mounting and lift the water filter out. Then clean the water filter separately. If the water filter is wet, rinse it thoroughly under running tap water. If the water filter is dry, then brush it gently, using a soft brush (e.g. a clean tooth brush). However, sometimes residues of scale cannot be removed this way. In this case, de-scale the water filter (see below).

CAUTION: Always keep the power socket in the middle of the base and the power connector in the bottom of the kettle completely dry. Avoid spilling or dripping any liquid onto the base.

  1. Wipe the base and power cord with a slightly damp cloth. Always ensure to keep the power socket completely dry.
  2. Wipe the exterior of the kettle with a damp cloth, removing any residues of scale, caused by drops of water.
  3. Thoroughly dry all parts. Thereafter, leave the parts of the appliance dry naturally for approx. 30 minutes, where they are out of reach of young children.
  4. Re-mount the water filter by pushing the water filter slightly into the mounting to fix it.

IMPORTANT: Please de-scale the kettle regularly (see: 'De-scaling the Kettle').

DE-SCALING THE KETTLE

⚠ WARNING: De-scaling solution, when heated, will evaporate vapour hazardous to your health. When heating de-scaling solutions, DO NOT breath in the vapour. Always ensure good ventilation. Keep the appliance away from any delicate objects.

CAUTION: When using a commercial de-scaler, ensure that the selected product is suited for plastic kettles. Otherwise plastic parts and seals of the kettle could get damaged, causing leakage.

For de-scaling you may use white vinegar, citric acid or any de-scaler specified for plastic kettles.

  • Using vinegar: Fill the kettle with 1/2 litre of vinegar and leave to stand for 1 hour without heating.
  • Using citric acid: Bring 1/2 litre of water to the boil. Then add 25 g of citric acid. Leave to stand for 15 minutes with the appliance turned OFF.
  • Using a de-scaler: Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Empty the kettle and rinse it 5 or 6 times. Repeat the procedure, if there is still any scale left.

DE-SCALING THE WATER FILTER

CAUTION: Do not use any de-scaler not recommended in this section.

Soak the filter in white vinegar or diluted citric acid for approx. 1 hour (12 g citric acid in 1/4 litre water).
