Can I upgrade the memory on the eMachines E625?

Yes, the laptop supports up to 4 GB of DDR2 667 MHz memory using two soDIMM modules. Access the memory compartment on the bottom of the laptop.

How do I use the hotkeys on my eMachines E625?

Press and hold the Fn key, then press the corresponding function key. For example, Fn+F6 toggles the touchpad, Fn+▲ increases volume, Fn+▼ decreases brightness.

What card types does the built-in card reader support?

The 5-in-1 card reader supports Secure Digital (SD), MultiMediaCard (MMC), Memory Stick (MS), Memory Stick PRO (MS PRO), and xD-Picture Card (xD). Only one card at a time.

How can I connect an external monitor or projector?

Use the VGA port on the left side of the laptop. Then press Fn+F5 (Display toggle) to switch between internal and external displays.

Why is the battery indicator light amber or blue?

Amber means the battery is charging. Blue (when AC power is connected) means the battery is fully charged. The indicator is on the front edge of the laptop.

What do I do if the optical drive does not open?

If the laptop is off, use the emergency eject hole on the right side. Insert a paper clip straight into the hole to manually release the tray.

How do I clean my eMachines E625?

Turn off the laptop and unplug it. Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or a mild cleaner. Avoid getting moisture into openings. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

Can I use a security lock with this laptop?

Yes, there is a Kensington lock slot on the right side. Wrap the lock cable around a stationary object, insert the lock into the slot, and turn the key.

It covers basic topics such as eMachines Recovery Management, using the keyboard, audio, etc. Please understand that due to its nature, the Generic User Guide as well as the eMachinesSystem User Guide mentioned below will occasionally refer to functions or features which are only contained in certain models of the series, but not necessarily in the model you purchased. Such instances are marked in the text with language such as "only for certain models".

The Quick Guide introduces you to the basic features and functions of your new computer. For more on how your computer can help you to be more productive, please refer to the eMachinesSystem User Guide. This guide contains detailed information on such subjects as system utilities, data recovery, expansion options and troubleshooting. In addition it contains warranty information and the general regulations and safety notices for your notebook. It is available in Portable Document Format (PDF) and comes preloaded on your notebook.

Follow these steps to access it:

1 Click on Start, All Programs, eMachinesSystem.

2 Click on eMachinesSystem User Guide.

Note: Viewing the file requires Adobe Reader. If Adobe Reader is not installed on your computer, clicking on eMachinesSystem User Guide will run the Adobe Reader setup program first. Hotkeys

The computer employs hotkeys or key combinations to access most of the computer's controls like screen brightness and volume output.

To activate hotkeys, press and hold the key before pressing the other key in the hotkey combination.

Note: Wrap the computer security lock cable around an immovable object such as a table or handle of a locked drawer. Insert the lock into the notch and turn the key to secure the lock. Some keyless models are also available.
