L Introduction The Nokia Digital Pen allows you to create colourful and personal ruitimedia messages (MMS). Draw a picture or write a poem and sendit to the compatible phone that supports Bluetooth wireless technology. Display the image on your phone or forwardit as a multimedia message to another compatible phone or to ane-rreil adress. The Nokia Digital Pen also allows youto write meeting rrinutes or personal notes, and savethemin your PC. The Nokia Digital Pen can save up to 100 A5 pages, all of which can be sent to your PC by placingthe pen in the Gonnectivity Stand, which is connected to your PC via the USB port. Reedthis users guide carfully before using the Nokia Digital Pen. For important safety and reintenance inforration and for details about phone features, check the user's guide of your phone. HE Blustooth virdes technology The Nokia Digital Pen is specially designed for compatible phones that support Bluetooth wirdess technology and Chject Push Profile, Dial-up Networking Profile, Generic Object Exchange Profile and Serial Port Profile (A profileis a set of Bluetooth conrrands that your phone uses to control the pen). With the Bluetooth wirdess technology you can connect compatible devices without cables to other products using Bluetooth wireless technology. Before you can start using your Nokia Digital Pen, you must: + Chargethebattery. + Paira corpatible phone with the pen, see Pairing your Nokia Digital Pen on page 9. You need your Bluetooth passcode to pair the Nokia Digital Pen. The Bluetooth passcodeis included in the sales package. Keep the card in a secure place. + Tousethe Nokia Digital Pen with your PG install the PC application to your corrputer that is provided on the CD-ROM in the sales package, see Using the Nokia Digital Pen with a PCon page 17. E Gargng the bittery Chargethe pen in aither of the two ways: + Plugthe chargerinto an AC wall outlet andconnect it tothecharging connector on the pen, see Figure 2Q). + Plugthe chargerinto an AC wall outlet, connect it to the e Gonnectivity Stand, and placethe 4 paninthestand. The battery indicator on the pen blinks during charging. Charging the battery fully takes up to 2 hours depending on the charger. Note that the pen need not befully charged before you can useit. Charges and batteries Checkthe mode nurrber of any charger before using it with this device. The Nokia Digital Penisintended for use with the following chargers: ACP-8, ACP-12, and LCH- 12. Weming! Use only chargers approved by Nokia for use with this particular enhancerent. The use of any other types will invalidate any approvel or warranty applying to the enhancement, and ray be dangerous. For availability of approved chargers, check with your local dealer. When you disconnect the power cord of any enhancerent, grasp and pull the plug, not the: cord. BE FPäring your Nokia Digital Fen You rrust pair the pen with a compatible phone to enahleit to commrunicate with the phone. You can start the pairing fromeither your phone or from your pen. The pen can be paired with one phone at atime. If you want to use your pen with another phone, you rrust pair it with that phone. Note Do not point thelR (infrared) bsamat anyone's eye or allow tointerfere with other IR devices. Paring the pen from your phone L. Take the cap off the pen and reke sure that both your pen and compatible phone are switched on. Createthe Bluetooth connection within 5 rrinutes.

3. Set the phone to search for Bluetooth devices as instructed in the users guide

of the phone. The phone searches for all Bluetooth devices within approxiretey 10 metres and displaystheminalist.

4. Sdect the Nokia Digital Pen fromthe list and key in the Bluetooth passcode

included in the sales package When you have keyed in the correct passcode, the pen ibrates threetimes to indicate that pairing has succeeded and that the pen is ready for use. Bluetooth passcode induced in the sales package. When you have Keyed in the correct passcodk, the pen vibrates three times to indicate that pairing has succeaded.

4. Toallowthepento create the Bluetooth connection autorretically and'to send

In Nokia phones, this can be done by changing your paired devices settings in the Bluetooth menu.

5. Start usingthe pen.

Oncethe pans memory is full, the new data replaces the oldest onein the pen's memory. + When you run out of paper, you can obtain notepads fromauthorized Nokia retail stores. You can also print a specific PDF file (on CD-ROM) that contains the digital paper pattem on normal printing paper and useit as digital paper. Using the notepads Thesales package indudes two types of notepad paper, a srræll MMS pad (B7 size) anda large notepad (A5 size). Usethe smaller notepad for sending ruitimedia messages to a compatible phone or to an e-ræil address. The bigger notepad has two functions, You can aither save the notes in a PC using the PC application included in the sales package or sendthemto a compatible phone via a Bluetooth connection. In both cases you only needito select whether you want to sendthe notes to PCor to the phone by sdlecting the appropriate box onthenotepad, sæ Usingthe Nokia Digital Pen with a PC on page 17. Before starting to use a new notepad, select the box “New notepad” on the first page. Use only one notepad type (MMS pad and notepad) at atimre, and start using a new pad of the same type only after you have finished the old pad. Usingthe stylo settings You can change the colour and linethickness of the digital ink while you write or draw. The styo settings arelistedin the fold- out of the notepad back cover. Your sdections are used until you put the cap on. When the caps put on, the pen retums tothe default line colour and'thickness. The different colour or linethickness become visible only when you have sent the image or text to a compatible phone or PC. E Getting and snding a mutimedia nesage to the phone rs Note: Only devices that offer compatible rruitimedia message or € rail features can receive and display rultimedia messages. Multimedia message objects ray contain viruses or otherwise be harrful to your device or PC. Do not open any attachrent if you are not sure of thetrustworthiness of the sender. Usethe multimedia notepad for writing and sending multimedia messages to corpatible mobile phones. Before you can send a multimedia message fromthe phone, you need to set the multimedia settings in your phone: See you phone's user's guide for the multimedia settings. For availability and subscription infomration on multimedia messaging senices, contact your network operator or senice provider.

E instailing the PC application To use our pen with your PC, you needito install the PC application provided on CD-ROM.

1. Insert the CDinthe drive of your PC and follow the instructions on the

of your PC and connect it with a charger cable to an AC wall outlet, if you want to chargethe pen whileit isin the Gonnectivity Stand, see Figure 2 (2).

3. Ramovethe capfromthe pen and placethe pen

EE Sending and Ming notes on your PC You can send and save notes on your PC using the larger notepad. To send and ne a noteto PC:

1. Writea messageor draw a picture.

2. Sdect the PCboxonthenotepad and (A to create a draft e-rrvil of the page

content, or to simply send your notes to your PC without creating the draft e- rail, put the pen in the Gonnectivity Stand for the pen. Your PC application indudes a hap file To view the file, clickthe pen icon and sdect Hadpfromthe menu. To view notes on a PC:

1. Witea noteor draw a picture using the larger notepad.

2. Placethe pen in the Gonnectivity Stand. Your notes are autorretically

transferred to your PC and saved in memory.

3. To view, edit and rearrangethe notes, start the Digital Note Viewer application

E Retting the Nokia Digital Fen Partid rest Partial reset can be necessary if the pen frezes, but you do not want to lose the data that has been saved in the pen's memory. To reset the pen, push thereset holewith a paper ip. “The pen restarts and you can continue usingit nomrally. Full rest Useful reset, if you want to give the pen to someone aise and you want to make sure that it does not contain any personal infomretion. Full reset dears all the settings of the pen andresets all valuesto thar original settings, including pairinginfomretion. See Figure 40).

2. Pushthereset hole with a paper diip and, at the sametirre, press the pentip

against thetable. All three indicators of the pen Hlink simultaneously when the pen resets. Afterthereset is done, the pen vibrates.

3. Ramovethe paper dip and replacethe cap.

Notethat a new batterys full performances achieved only after two or three corrplete charge and discharge cydiest The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times but it will eventually wear out. When the operatingtimeis noticeably shorter than norral, it istime to buy anew battery. Unplug the charger when not in use. Do not leavethe battery connected to a charger for longer than a werk, since overcharging may shorten its lifetime. f left unused a fully charged battery will dischargeitself overtime.
