Frequently Asked Questions - StudioPhono MoFi

How do I set the DIP switches for my cartridge?
Refer to the Input Impedance Settings and Cartridge Output Settings charts on the underside label. Adjust switches 3-10 for impedance (e.g., 47k Ohms for MM) and switches 1,2,11,12 for gain.
What is the factory default setting?
Out of the box, all DIP switches are set to operate with most high-output MM/MI/MC cartridges: impedance at 47k Ohms and gain at 40dB.
How do I connect my turntable?
Connect your turntable's RCA interconnects and ground wire to the Input Left/Right and Ground terminals on the StudioPhono. Then connect the Output Left/Right to your amplifier's line-level inputs.
What does the Mono button do?
The Mono button sums the left and right channels for playing mono records, improving signal-to-noise ratio.
What does the Subsonic filter do?
The Subsonic Filter attenuates frequencies below 20Hz to reduce unwanted rumble from warped records or turntable vibration.
Is the StudioPhono compatible with low-output MC cartridges?
Yes, you can adjust the gain to 60dB or 66dB (with boost) and select appropriate impedance via DIP switches.
How do I adjust gain?
Use DIP switches 1,2,11,12. For 40dB: all off; 46dB: switches 1/12 on; 60dB: switches 2/11 on; 66dB: both pairs on.
Can I use it with a moving iron cartridge?
Yes, moving iron (MI) cartridges are typically high-output and work with the default 40dB gain and 47k Ohm impedance.
What power supply do I need?
The included universal power supply accepts 100-240V AC. Only use the provided adapter to avoid damage.
How do I clean the unit?
Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Avoid liquids or solvents that may damage the finish.

INSTALLATION

Check all connections before you plug in the power supply

StudioPhono™ will operate at its best when properly installed in a location that's free from magnetic fields like those generated by equipment with power transformers (such as an amplifier), and within a reasonable distance between your turntable and audio component(s).

Once you've placed

StudioPhono™ in a suitable area, connect your turntable's interconnects and ground wire (if supplied) to the phono preamp's inputs, matching each connector to the inputs as shown. Attach another set of interconnects from the phono preamp's outputs to the line-level analog inputs of your preamplifier/processor.

Plug in the provided power supply between the phono preamp's power input and a wall outlet or line conditioner.

CARTRIDGE LOADING

StudioPhono™ has been engineered to work with a wide array of phono cartridges on the market today. Because phono cartridges require special impedance and gain settings, you should configure StudioPhono™ to suit the cartridge of your choice.

Out of the box, StudioPhono™ is factory set to operate with most high-output Moving Magnet (MM), Moving Coil (MC), or Moving Iron (MI) phono cartridges. If you are using a low-output Moving Coil (MC) cartridge, you will need to adjust the phono preamplifier's settings for best results.

Locate the DIP switches, which are found on the underside. Each switch is arranged in a mirror pattern for left and right channels.

Start by selecting each DIP switch for the recommended impedance of your cartridge as shown in the Input Impedance Settings chart.

Next, select the best gain setting for your cartridge using the Cartridge Output Settings chart and set DIP switches accordingly.

For Moving Magnet (MM), start with 40dB. For Moving Coil (MC), start with 60dB. An additional 6dB can be added via DIP switches 1 and 12.
