Frequently Asked Questions - LC-50CFE5101K SHARP

Why are some menu options greyed out?
Some options are only available in certain input sources (e.g., HDMI). They are greyed out when they have no effect.
Can I stop the TV from automatically turning off after 4 hours?
Yes. Go to Time menu, scroll to Auto Standby, and select OFF.
I tuned in digital TV but am missing channels or have break-up. What can I do?
Check Freeview/Saorview coverage at www.freeview.co.uk or www.saorview.ie. Use a good outdoor digital aerial. A loft aerial may need a booster.
The TV does not save channels after retuning. How to fix?
Turn off TV, remove RF cable, turn on, press Menu then 8888 to enter first time installation, run tuning. Turn off, reconnect RF, turn on, repeat tuning.
How do I connect external speakers for louder sound?
Use the 3.5mm headphone output with a 3.5mm to phono cable, or use the digital optical audio output. Note: headphone output disables TV speakers.
My remote control does not work with the TV. How to pair?
During first time installation, press and hold GREEN and YELLOW buttons on remote for a few seconds. Power light blinks 5 times to confirm pairing. If not in setup, turn TV on using standby button on TV, then press standby again to open pairing menu.
Can I record TV programmes with this TV?
Yes. Connect a USB memory stick (minimum read 80 MB/s, write 40 MB/s for HD) and use the USB record function in Freeview/Saorview mode. You can pause live TV, one-button record, or schedule from the 7-day TV guide.
Why does my USB memory stick not work?
Ensure the USB stick is formatted to FAT32. For hard drives larger than 32GB, use a utility to format to FAT32. Check read/write speeds meet minimum requirements.
I forgot the system password. How to reset?
Use the master password 4711 to access the menu and change the password.
Why can't I find Freeview HD channels after tuning?
Freeview HD channels are placed above channel 100, e.g., 101 for BBC One HD. Also ensure the TV is connected to your router via Ethernet for some data channels.

Important information regarding use of video games, computers, captions or other fixed image displays

The extended use of fixed image program material can cause a permanent "shadow image" on the LCD/LED panel, also known as "screen burn".

This "shadow image" can appear in the background during normal viewing. This type of irreversible LCD/LED panel deterioration can be limited by observing the following steps:

  1. Reduce the brightness/contrast setting to a minimum suitable viewing level.

  2. Do not display the fixed image for extended periods of time.

  3. Turn the power off when not in use.

Examples of images that are more likely to cause "screen burn" are as follows (this is not an exhaustive list):

  • TV channel logos: e.g. shopping channel logos and pricing displays - especially if they are bright and stationary. Moving or low-contrast graphics are less likely to cause ageing of the screen.
  • Time displays.
  • Teletext: Do not view a stationary page for a long period of time
    • TV/DVD menus: e.g. listings of DVD disc content.
  • Pause mode: Do not leave the TV in pause mode for long periods of time, e.g. when watching DVDs or videos.

Important: Once 'shadow image/screen burn'

occurs, it will never disappear and is not

repairable under warranty.

SECURING THE TV TO A WALL

Securing the TV to a wall with anti-tip straps

For maximum security in the home, when using a TV with its stand, anti-tip straps should be fitted. These are available from supermarket websites and other websites and are an easy, inexpensive and effective way of ensuring your TV stays safely upright. Straps are designed to be attached to the rear of the TV and then tethered to the wall or the furniture the TV is stood on, these are fitted as follows.

A) Using one or both of the top wall-mounting holes and screws fasten one end of the fastening cord/s to the TV. (the screws are already supplied in the wall mounting holes)

B) Secure the other end of the fastening cord/s to your wall. (you will need screws/fi xings suitable for your wall type - available separately from most DIY stores).

Note - Please ensure that children do not climb on the TV set.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents is urging people to take care with flat-screen televisions. RoSPA stated in 2010 that "Toddlers are particularly at risk of pulling fl at-screen televisions on to themselves. They are unsteady on their feet and are attracted by colourful television images." The risk is increased as televisions become lighter.

Wall mounting

IMPORTANT - Before drilling any holes in the wall ensure you are not drilling where there could be any electrical wires, water or gas pipes.

SHARP LC-50CFE5101K - Wall mounting - 1

natural_image Simple line drawing of an oval shape with four diamond marks inside, mounted on a rectangular base (no text or symbols)

1) Remove the four screws located at the back of the TV set.
2) The wall mount can now be easily attached to the mounting holes, located on the back of the TV, using the same four screws removed.

For VESA wall mounting information please refer to the Technical Specification page.

For optimum viewing, if wall mounting the TV higher than eye level, the TV should be tilted downwards so that the TV's screen is 'face on'. See fig 1 and 2.
