What is the maximum transmission distance for 4K video?

For 4K (3840x2160p@30Hz 8-bit 4:4:4 or 3840x2160p@60Hz 8-bit 4:2:0), the maximum distance over Cat6a/7 is 35 meters (115 feet). Over Cat6 it is limited to 7 meters (23 feet). Always use high-quality HDMI cables and proper termination.

Does the EX-70-G2 support Power over HDBaseT (PoH)?

Yes, the extender supports 2-way PoH (Power over HDBaseT). The included 18V DC power supply must be connected to either the transmitter or the receiver; the other unit will be powered via the category cable. If the cable run is too long, you can connect power to both units.

What types of IR control are supported?

The extender has bidirectional IR over HDBaseT. Connect the included IR emitter to the IR TX port (3.5mm mono) and the IR receiver to the IR RX port (3.5mm stereo). This allows control of a local device from the remote display location and vice versa.

How do I distinguish between v1 and v2 chassis?

Check the product chassis model number sticker. Version 1 may have no 'v#' after the model; version 2 will clearly show v2 after the model number. The v2 chassis adds RS-232 control via a 3-pin Phoenix connector, which is not available on the v1.

What are the RS-232 wiring connections for the v2 model?

The 3-pin Phoenix connector pinout: Pin 1 = TX (Transmit), Pin 2 = RX (Receive), Pin 3 = G (Ground). Connect TX to RX of the control device, RX to TX, and Ground to Ground. No hardware flow control is used.

Can I use third-party IR emitters or receivers?

While possible, WyreStorm recommends using their own IR components for compatibility. If using third-party devices, they must operate identically to WyreStorm units. For control systems, use the CAB-IR-LINK cable to adjust voltage and pin differences.

What troubleshooting steps should I take if there is no picture or poor quality?

First, verify all HDMI and HDBaseT connections are secure. Ensure the HDBaseT cable is terminated per EIA568B standard. Check that the source and display support the resolution (e.g., 4K requires rated cables). You can also try lowering the resolution via EDID settings. For 3D or 4K, use certified HDMI cables.

What is the maximum power consumption of the transmitter and receiver?

Transmitter: 7W (24 BTU/hr). Receiver: 17W (58 BTU/hr). These values are for the units without external loads. The total PoH budget per IEEE 802.3af is 15.4W max.

What are the dimensions and weight of each unit?

Both chassis versions have identical dimensions: 109mm (4.3in) wide, 64.2mm (2.53in) deep, 15mm (0.6in) high. Weight: 0.36 kg (0.79 lbs) per unit.

Does the EX-70-G2 support HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2?

Yes, the v2 chassis supports HDCP 2.2, while the v1 chassis supports HDCP 1.4. The extender supports HDMI and DVI/D (with adapter) and passes through EDID and CEC signals.

This product was released in 2 different versions which contain different chassis designs and feature sets. The differences are identified throughout this document in order to make installation and use easier. Versions can be identified by a v# after the model number on the product chassis model number sticker. Note that version 1 of this product may not contain a v1 after the product while all version 2s will contain a v2 after the model number.

Wiring and Connections

WyreStorm recommends that all wiring for the installation is run and terminated prior to making connections to the switcher. Read through this section in its entirety before running or terminating the wires to ensure proper operation and to avoid damaging equipment.

IMPORTANT! Wiring Guidelines

• The use of patch panels, wall plates, cable extenders, kinks in cables, and electrical or environmental interference will have an adverse effect on signal transmission which may limit performance. Steps should be taken to minimize or remove these factors completely during installation for best results
• WyreStorm recommends using pre-terminated HDMI cables due to the complexity of these connector types. Using pre-terminated cables will ensure that these connections are accurate and will not interfere with the performance of the product.

RS-232 Wiring

The EX-70-G2 v2 uses a 3-pin RS-232 with no hardware flow control. Most control systems and computers are DTE where pin 2 is RX, this can vary from device to device. Refer to the documentation for the connected device for pin functionally to ensure that the correct connections can be made. This connection is not available on the v1 version of this product.

IR TX/RX Guidelines

• Using WyreStorm infrared emitters and receivers is the best way to ensure that most IR coding formats are transmitted and received by the NetworkHD system. Other 3rd party emitters and receivers can be used; however, these devices must operate in the same manner as the WyreStorm devices.
• Due to differences in IR across 3rd party control systems their IR ports should never be connected directly to a NetworkHD system as an incompatibility may exist. WyreStorm offers a cable that compensates for voltage differences as well adjusts for differences in the pins used within the port. Refer to the CAB-IR-LINK product page for more information.

IR TX Port Pinout

Connection for IR TX (transmit) uses a 3.5mm (1/8in) mono plug.

IR RX Port Pinout

Connection for IR RX (receive) uses a 3.5mm (1/8in) stereo jack that outputs +5V DC to power the included IR receiver.

Power Supply Wiring

The EX-70-G2 can supply power from the transmitter to the receiver using PoH on the same category cable that transmits audio and video. The included power must be connected to the transmitter in order to power the receiver (or vise versa). Should distance of the category cable or other factors prevent PoH from being used, connect an 18V DC 1A power supply to both devices. Additional power supplies may be purchased from WyreStorm.

Troubleshooting

No or Poor Quality Picture (snow or noisy image)

• Verify that all HDMI and HDBaseT connections are not loose and are functioning properly
• Verify that the HDBaseT cable is properly terminated following EIA568B standard
• Verify that the output resolution of the source and display is supported by this extender
• Configure EDID Settings to a lower resolution.
• If transmitting 3D or 4K, verify that the HDMI cables used are 3D or 4K rated.

No or Intermittent 3 ^rd party Device Control

- Verify that the IR and RS-232 cables are properly terminated following the Wiring and Connections section.

Troubleshooting Tips:

- WyreStorm recommends using a cable tester or connecting the cable to other devices to verify functionality.
