Power Supply Preparations
Refer to the specifications (page 6) for information on operating times when using rechargeable batteries or dry cell batteries.
Using the AC adaptor
Connect the AC adaptor supplied.

text_image
DC IN jack (DC IN 4.5 V ◇←) Back panel of the unit AC adaptor Household mains socketNote
- The configuration of the AC adaptor differs according to the area.
- The unit is in the standby condition when the AC adaptor is connected. The primary circuit is always "live" as long as the AC adaptor is connected to an electrical outlet.
- Turn the unit off before connecting or disconnecting the AC adaptor.
Using rechargeable batteries (not included)
Obtain the optional rechargeable batteries.
Optional batteries
For United Kingdom: P-3GAVE/2B
For others: P-3GAVT/2B
Be sure to recharge the batteries before using them. The unit cannot be used to charge rechargeable batteries other than those specifically designed for it.
Recharging procedure
1 Insert the special rechargeable batteries into the unit.

text_image
Diagram showing two views of a device with labeled components and directional arrows indicating movement or change.2 Connect the AC adaptor.
(Refer to "Using the AC adaptor" for connection instructions.)
Recharging starts and the "C" charging indicator flashes on the unit's display.
When the rechargeable batteries are fully recharged the charging indicator disappears.
3 When recharging is complete, unplug the AC adaptor from the household mains socket and the DC IN jack.
●Never mix dry cell and rechargeable batteries.
- Turn the unit off before replacing the rechargeable batteries.
Note
- Rechargeable batteries have a service life of approximately 300 charge-discharge cycles. The batteries have reached the end of their operational life if they last for a noticeably shorter time after recharging, or if they cannot be recharged at all. Replace the batteries.
- Recharging may only be performed when the unit is powered off.
- The AC adaptor and rechargeable batteries may become warm while recharging is in progress. This is not a malfunction.
- Leaving the AC adaptor connected can cause the batteries to go flat. After recharging the batteries and disconnecting the AC adaptor from the household mains socket, ensure you disconnect the adaptor from the unit's [DC IN 4.5V ◇◎] terminal.
If the battery lid comes loose
Slide the lid back into place horizontally.

Removing batteries
Push up on the battery in the direction indicated by the arrow. Then lift it out.

Using the dry cell batteries (not included)
After disconnecting the AC adaptor, insert two LR6 (UM-3) alkaline batteries.
The procedure for inserting and removing dry cell batteries is identical to that for rechargeable batteries.
Note
Turn the unit off before replacing the dry cell batteries.
Battery indicator

This indicator flashes when the batteries are almost out of power. Power is cut off completely a short while later. Rechargeable batteries: Recharge batteries.
Dry cell batteries: Replace batteries with new ones.
Note
- The length of time the unit will continue to operate between when the battery indicator starts flashing and when the power is cut off differs depending on the type of batteries used.
- The battery indicator may not flash if rechargeable batteries other than those designated by Panasonic are used.
Using the car adaptor (not included)
Be sure to obtain the car adaptor (SH-CDC9), available as an optional accessory.
The car adaptor can be used to recharge the unit's batteries while in the car.
If the unit malfunctions or freezes during use, disconnect the power sources (the AC adaptor or batteries).
Re-connect the power source and continue operation.

text_image
SL-SX280 HOLD mode HOLDThis function causes the unit to ignore short, accidental button presses. (The disc lid can still be opened and closed.)
The HOLD function prevents the following:
- The unit is powered on accidentally when not in use, causing the batteries to run down.
- A button is accidentally pressed during play, interrupting the operation.
SL-SX280
The unit and wired remote control have HOLD functions, each of which works independently.
Resume function
The player stores the track where you stopped play and if you press [▶ ▪] (main unit) or [■/▶] (remote control) play resumes from the beginning of the track.
The resume function is canceled (play starts from the first track) if you open the lid when the unit is in stop mode. It is also usually canceled when you replace the CD while the unit is off.
Note
- The resume function may work if you replace the CD while the unit is off.
- If you turned the unit off near the end of the track, play may resume from the beginning of the next track.
- The resume function works automatically and cannot be turned off.
Removing discs
1 Press [■,OPR OFF] to stop play and disc rotation.
2 Slide [OPEN ▶] to open the lid.
3 Press [PUSH] to release the disc.
Do not stop the disc by hand or try to remove it before it stops rotating. This can damage CDs.

- A recovery system immediately returns the laser pickup to its original position if it is knocked off the track by a strong shock.
- The anti-skip memory (SL-SX280 40 seconds, SL-SX240 10 seconds) fills in interruptions caused by bumps and vibrations.
The anti-skip system works automatically while the unit is on and cannot be canceled.
When bumps continue repeatedly
The message "SORRY" appears on the display and sound is interrupted.
