Frequently Asked Questions - Folding Keyboard Matias

What do the flashing lights mean?
The blue light flashes when the keyboard is on and trying to connect; it stops when connected. The yellow light flashes briefly when turning off, indicating it's safe to fold. The red light flashes when batteries are low.
How do I connect the keyboard to my BlackBerry?
First, install the Matias Keyboard driver from www.installer.cc on your BlackBerry. Then turn on the keyboard (blue light flashes). Open the Set Up Bluetooth app, add a device, select 'Matias Keyboard - Smartphone', enter passkey 1234, and press Enter. After pairing, open the Matias Keyboard application and turn it ON.
Why does my keyboard send random key presses when I close it?
This happens if you close the keyboard while it's still connected. Always turn the keyboard off by pressing the On/Off button (yellow light flashes) before folding it closed. If you see random inputs, turn off the keyboard and driver.
How can I stop the 'connection lost' messages?
When you are not using the keyboard, turn the keyboard driver software off from the driver menu. This stops the messages and also saves your BlackBerry's battery.
Some keys (like PgUp/PgDown) don't work as expected. Is this normal?
Yes. The BlackBerry is not a PC and was not designed for PC keyboards. Some keys may work in certain apps but not others. This is normal. The keyboard is optimized for standard shortcuts like Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, and arrow navigation.
The driver stopped connecting to my keyboard. What should I do?
Try turning the driver off and then on again. If that doesn't help, restart your BlackBerry. If the problem persists, check that the keyboard has fresh batteries.
I can't pair new Bluetooth devices anymore. How can I fix this?
First, turn OFF the keyboard driver. Then pair your new device normally. After pairing, turn the keyboard driver back ON. If issues continue, restart your BlackBerry.
I see an error 'Injector API policy'. What does this mean?
This occurs due to BES Application Control Policy blocking keystroke injection. Contact your BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) administrator and ask them to follow the instructions at http://matias.ca/besconfig.
How do I create custom keyboard shortcuts?
Open the Matias Keyboard driver, go to Hot Keys... menu, and select options to create shortcuts for opening apps, dialing numbers, or opening web pages.
How long is the warranty and what does it cover?
The Matias Folding Keyboard comes with a 1-year limited warranty against defects in workmanship and materials. For support, contact help@matias.ca or call 1-905-265-8844. Matias will repair or replace the product at its option.

22 Select, Cut, Copy & Paste Text
23 Some keys may not work as expected
23 Hot Keys — Custom keyboard shortcuts

Esc moves you back

The Esc key moves you back. It works exactly like the Escape key on your BlackBerry.

The left and right Windows keys reproduce the Menu key.

Opening & Exiting Applications

From the Home screen, you can use the Arrow keys to select an application, and the Enter key to open it.

Press the Esc key one or more times to exit applications.

Select, Cut, Copy & Paste Text

Many standard keyboard shortcuts work as you would expect, including Cut, Copy & Paste (Ctrl-X, Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V).

You can Select Text by holding down the Shift key and tapping the Arrow keys.

Some keys may not work as expected

We've done our best to make everything work as normally as possible, but you should not expect it to be exactly like your PC keyboard.

The BlackBerry is not a PC, and was not designed to work with PC keyboards.

So, not every key will work the way it does on a PC. They may work as expected in some applications, but not in others.

Hot Keys — Custom keyboard shortcuts

You can create your own keyboard shortcuts for opening apps, dialing phone numbers, opening web pages, and more.

Select the Hot Keys... menu in the driver, and click to select the various options.
