Frequently Asked Questions - UFT 571 KATHREIN

How do I connect the UFT 571 to my TV?

Connect the HDMI cable from the receiver's HDMI output to your TV's HDMI input. If your TV does not have HDMI, use the composite (RCA) video and audio outputs. Ensure the LNB cable from your satellite dish is connected to the LNB IN port.

Why is there no signal on my screen?

Check that the satellite dish is correctly aligned and that the LNB cable is securely connected. Verify that the correct satellite and transponder are selected in the menu. Also ensure that the receiver is powered on and the TV input is set to the correct HDMI or AV source.

How do I perform a channel scan?

Go to the Menu, select 'Installation' or 'Setup', then 'Antenna Settings' or 'Channel Search'. Choose your satellite (e.g., Astra 19.2°E) and select 'Automatic Scan'. The receiver will search for all available channels.

Can I watch encrypted channels?

The UFT 571 has a Common Interface (CI) slot for a CAM module. Insert a compatible Conditional Access Module and a valid smartcard to decrypt encrypted channels.

How do I update the firmware?

Download the latest firmware from Kathrein's website onto a USB stick. Insert the USB into the receiver, go to Menu > Installation > Software Update, and select the USB option. Follow on-screen instructions.

What should I do if the remote control stops working?

Replace the batteries with new ones. Ensure there are no obstacles between the remote and the receiver. If still not working, try resetting the receiver by unplugging it for 30 seconds.

How can I reset the receiver to factory settings?

Go to Menu > Installation > Factory Reset. Confirm the action. Note that all stored channels and settings will be erased.

Does the UFT 571 support recording?

Yes, you can record programs to an external USB storage device (USB flash drive or hard drive) connected to the USB port. Go to Menu > PVR Settings to configure.

What is the maximum USB storage size supported?

The receiver supports USB drives formatted as FAT32 with up to 2TB capacity. For best performance, use a USB 2.0 compatible device.

How do I set up parental controls?

Go to Menu > Settings > Parental Control. You can lock channels or set age ratings. Default PIN is usually 0000 or 1234; change it in the menu.

Preface

Dear customer,

This Operating Manual is intended to help you make the fullest use of the extensive range of functions offered by your new DVB-T receiver. We have tried to make the operating instructions as easy as possible to understand, and to keep them as concise as possible. To help you understand particular specialist terms that cannot be translated, we have added a short glossary at the end of the manual.

You have chosen DVB-T, a TV standard which, even in combination with an adapted indoor antenna such as Kathrein's BZD-series, will provide you with optimum reception, with no ghosting or any of the other disadvantages of conventional TV viewing.

The power switch is an environmentally friendly feature. If you will not be watching the television for a longer period, you should therefore disconnect your equipment from the power supply to save energy. For shorter breaks, you can switch the equipment to stand-by on the remote control, which uses only a minimal amount of energy.

Safety Instructions and Important Information

This page contains important information about the operation, installation location and connection of the unit.

Read these instructions carefully before setting up the unit.

DANGER!

Mains cable

Make sure that the mains power cable (power supply cable) is not damaged. Units with a damaged mains cable must be disconnected from the mains (disconnect mains connector) and repaired by a qualified engineer before setup. Only use the power supply supplied (if available)!

Risk of death due to electric shock.

Cleaning

Pull the mains plug before cleaning the unit. Only use a dry cloth for cleaning and only clean the outer surface. Never open the unit.

Touching the parts inside the unit carries a risk of death due to electric shock.

Playing children

Make sure that children do not push any objects into the ventilation slots.

WARNING!

Earthing

The antenna system must be earthed as specified or connected to the earthing point. EN 60728/11 and any national regulations must be complied with.

Danger due to surge voltages, lightning strikes.

Mains voltage

Only operate the unit at the specified mains voltage (indicated on the rear of the unit or on the external power supply)! The unit may only be connected to the mains and turned on once it has been connected to the antenna and to the TV set or the cable network and PC.

If the mains voltage is too high, there is a risk of fi re.

Repairs

Ensure that any repair to your unit are only carried out by qualified personnel. If you open the unit and attempt to repair it yourself any warranty claims will be voided! Improper work on the unit may jeopardise the electrical safety of the unit.

The manufacturer shall accept no liability for accidents suffered by the user after opening the unit!

Connections

Incorrect wiring of the connections can lead to malfunctions or defects in the unit!

Long periods of absence / storms

Always turn off the unit at the mains switch if you will be absent for a long time or there is a storm. If your unit does not have a mains switch, you can disconnect it from the mains by unplugging the mains connector. This also applies to the other equipment connected to the unit. Isolation from the cable network is also recommended. Note any timer programs (receiver) and turn the unit on again promptly before the recording time.

Installation location

Every piece of electronic equipment generates heat. However, the heating of this unit lies within the permissible range. Sensitive furniture surfaces and veneers may become discoloured by the effects of heat over time. The feet of the unit can also cause colour changes to treated furniture surfaces. If necessary, place the unit on a suitable stable and fl at base.

Ventilation

The heat occurring in this unit is adequately dissipated. Nevertheless, you should never install the unit in a cupboard or on shelves with inadequate ventilation. Never cover the cooling slots on the unit (e.g. with other equipment, magazines, tablecloths or curtains)!

No not place any objects on top of the unit and maintain at least 10 cm of free space above the unit so that the resulting heat can be dissipated with no obstructions.

Moisture, sunlight, heat

Protect the unit against moisture, dripping and splashed water (do not place any filled objects such as vases on top of the unit). Do not place the unit close to the heating or expose it to direct sunlight and do not operate it in damp locations. Use the unit only in a temperate climate, not in tropical conditions.

Remote Control Command Sets

The RC 660 remote control supports up to four devices as well as the receivers of the UFD 5xx (not UFD 554, 558) and UFD 4xx families. This allows you to operate two receivers independently of one another in the same room.

How to assign the receivers an infrared code:

Switch on the receiver (Stand-by) and leave the other receiver(s) off (power switch off).

On the remote control simultaneously press

Connection and Setup

This section is intended specifically for specialist dealers. You only need to refer to it if you are carrying out the installation yourself.

The "Connection Example" section provides a sample configuration.

Do not connect the unit to the mains until all installation work has been properly carried out. Refer to the information in the “Safety instructions” section.

Antenna Connection

DVB-T TV was developed to enable you to receive a good quality TV picture anywhere, provided the signal is strong enough.

Connect the receiver either to your conventional stand-alone or community antenna through which you receive all VHF/UHF signals, or use an antenna developed for DVB-T (such as the BZD 30 or BZD 40 from Kathrein) for direct reception in residential areas (BZD 30).

DVB-T TV cannot work miracles however; you must be receiving a good quality signal. You may encounter problems in concrete buildings if you are using only an indoor antenna.

If you are using (or have to use) an active antenna - that is, an antenna with a pre-amplifier, you can power it from the receiver's antenna input. The default setting in the receiver is "OFF", to prevent any damage from occurring. Be sure to use an antenna tuned to a 5 Volt supply (such as the BZD 30 from Kathrein).

TV Connection

Connect the UFT 571 (TV Scart socket) and the TV set by a Scart cable. If your TV has a stereo capability, you can receive the sound in stereo via the Scart connection.

Audio Connection

If you want to play the sound on your hi-fi system, connect the audio cinch sockets to the input sockets on the hi-fi system with an appropriate cable.

Dolby Connection

The Dolby Digital data stream output (AC 3) is intended for connection to a Dolby Digital system.

IR Receiver (Accessory)

The infrared receiver allows you to place the unit in a concealed location.

Connect the infrared receiver to the "IR REMOTE IN" socket and position it such that it has a visual connection to the remote control.

Inserting Batteries in the Remote Control

Remove the cover on the rear of the remote control. Insert the two batteries supplied into the remote control, ensuring correct polarity - this is shown on the base of the battery compartment. Slide the cover back onto the housing until it locks in place.

Used batteries are special waste. Do not throw used batteries into your household waste; take them to a collection point for old batteries.

Electronic equipment is not household waste - in accordance with directive 2002/96/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND THE COUNCIL of 27^th January 2003 on used electrical and electronic equipment, it must be disposed of properly.

At the end of its service life, take this unit for disposal at a designated public collection point.

Using the Front Panel/Display

Using the Front Panel

The unit has four operating buttons on its front panel (Channel ▲ and ▼ and Volume +/-) to change channels or alter the volume. By simultaneously pressing the "Channel ▲" and "Volume -" buttons the on-unit control can be temporarily switched to Radio/TV toggle mode. Pres the "Channel ▼" button to switch to radio mode, or the "Volume +" button to switch to the TV.

If you cannot find your remote control and your unit is in Stand-by mode, click the power switch off briefly and back on again and then press the "Channel ▲" or "Channel ▼" button to turn the unit on.

Display

The channel number is shown on a green 4-digit 7-segment display.

Displays readouts and their meanings:

Important Information

Getting Started

Before using the receiver for the first time, make sure that it has been assembled, installed and connected properly, as described in the "Connection and Setup" section and in accordance with the safety instructions.

• Switch on the TV set
• Select the AV channel location for your receiver connection (only necessary on older TV sets)
• Now connect the receiver to the socket outlet
• Press the power-on button on the receiver
• Switch on the receiver with one of the number buttons

The following display appears (see screenshot at left):

Press the ⓘ button to view the signal strength and reception quality in bar format (see second screenshot at left). This can help you to align the antenna optimally prior to scanning. The scale value for the signal strength and reception quality is also shown on the 7-segment display (toggle with ⏻ buttons). First use the ◄▶ buttons to select a channel on which you are already receiving a signal. Align the antenna to obtain the best readings on the signal strength and reception bars.

The "E." or "F." on the 7-segment display indicates that the tuner has locked on and a digital signal is being received - this enables you to tune in an antenna when in an exposed location using just the 7-segment display - that is, without using a TV set's on-screen display.

The channels can also be selected using the channel switching buttons on the unit's front panel during antenna alignment. The current channel number is displayed for about three seconds, then the readout switches back to "E" or "F".

Initial Setup

Be sure to read the antenna rating plate and follow the instructions accompanying the antenna!

Note:

• Press the◀▶ buttons to toggle country selections between Austria and Germany
• Use the ▼▲ buttons to move the cursor onto the “Language” line and press the ◀▶ buttons to select the menu language you want to use
• Use the ▼▲ buttons to move to the “Time zone” line and select your desired time zone using the ◀▶ buttons (+ 1 hour for Winter time / + 2 hours for Summer time).
• Use the ▼▲ buttons to move to the “Active antenna” line and make your selection using the ◀▶ buttons. Select “OFF” for a non-active antenna and 5 V “ON” if an active antenna is connected to the antenna input.
• Press the OK button to start the scan

In the next sequence you should allow the unit to store the settings.

A scan is now performed, and the unit switches to its basic setting. The on-screen display details the further steps.

The screen displays the first channel in the list. In the bottom section of the screen is an information bar showing the name of the channel provider, the time, the timer settings, the channel status and title, provided those details are being broadcast. The LED display indicates the channel's memory location number.

Each time you switch on the unit the last reception setting is restored.

If the message "Poor or no signal" appears on the screen as well as the display for the last channel received, check the installation of the system and/or the receiver settings. If only specific channels are affected, the broadcaster's signal may be down.

Check the time for summer or Winter time (see "System Settings" section). If you have selected an incorrect time zone you will get incorrect programme times!

If you have changed the basic settings of your receiver and want to cancel them, you can select the factory settings at any time and restore the original setup (see "Installation" section, "Factory Reset" subsection).

Menu Structure

Select the main menu by pressing the Ⓜ button. Move to the main menu submenus using the arrow buttons (◀▶▲▼) and select one by pressing the OK button. You can quit the main menu and submenus at any time by pressing the EXIT button.

Channel Selection

There are three possible ways to select a channel:

• By direct input using the number pad
• By pressing the ⏻ buttons and
• By pressing the OK button twice to call up a list (see screenshot at left) sorted by channel number from which you can select the channel you want using the arrow buttons (▼▲◀▶) and press the OK button to switch to it. Press the OK button again or the EXIT button to quit the channel list.

Press the ⓘ button to sort the channel list alphabetically and press the ⓘ button again to sort it by channel number.

Press the EXIT button to toggle between the two last channels selected.

Press the OK button to call up the last four channels viewed for at least 5 seconds (see screenshot at left). Make your selection using the arrow buttons (▼▲◀▶).

Note: DVB-T does not yet currently broadcast radio stations.

Press the 📋 button to toggle back and forth between TV and Radio mode.

All functions available for TV (last channels, "zapper" function, Favourites lists, and channel lists) are also available separately for 999 radio stations.

Selecting a Channel from a Favourites List

Press the 📄 button to access the Favourites list selection menu. The screenshot shown at the left appears (example).

Use the arrow buttons (◀▶▶▼) to select the Favourites list you want and press OK to open it. Use the ⏻ buttons to choose from the channels in the selected Favourites list.

To be able to choose from all available channels again, select "General" (main list global selection) from the Favourites list selection menu.

Managing Channels in the Main List

After running the automatic scan during first installation the receivable channels are arranged in a preset sort order beginning with P001. You can change the sort order as you wish, and/or delete any channels you do not want.

To do so press the Ⓜ button to access the main menu and then press the Ⓞ button twice to access the "Channel Arrangement" menu. From there you can move and delete channels, and mark them for parental control.

Move

Select the channel you want to move using the ⏻ buttons or directly on the number pad. Press the green 📁 button to cut the channel to the clipboard (remove = green arrow). Then use the ⏻ buttons or the number pad to select the position in the list at which you want to re-insert the removed channel and press the yellow 📁 button (insert = yellow arrow).

Press the EXIT button to quit the menu and confirm the "Save change?" prompt using the OK button.

Delete

Select the channel you want to delete using the 🔊 buttons or directly on the number pad. Press the green 🔊 button to cut the channel to the clipboard (remove = green arrow). Press the EXIT button to quit the menu and confirm the "Save change?" prompt using the OK button.

If you have moved one or more channels unintentionally to the clipboard, quit the menu by pressing the EXIT button and then in response to the "Save change?" prompt press the EXIT button again. Any deletions are undone.

A channel deleted from the main listis also deleted from all Favourites lists!

Managing Channels

Marking for Parental Control

Select the channel you want to bar using the ⏻ buttons or directly on the number pad and mark it by pressing Ⓐ. Channels marked in this way are indicated by a “?” in front of the channel location in the main list. When parent control is active, you are prompted to enter the fi ve-digit PIN code whenever you try to select marked channels (see “Parental Control” section). To cancel the marking, press the Ⓐ button again.

Deleting All Channels

Press the ⬙ button to delete all channels from the main list.

The channels are only defi nitively deleted once you respond to the "Delete all channels?" prompt by pressing OK and after pressing the EXIT button also confi rm the "Save changes?" prompt by pressing OK.

Favourites Lists

In addition to a main list, "F0", with 999 channel memory locations (P001 - P999), your DVB-T receiver also features nine additional so-called Favourites lists, "F1" - "F9", to which you or members of your family, for example, can assign channels from the main list. In border areas, for example, additional DVB-T channels will be receivable depending on your antenna setup, and they too can be copied in any order to the Favourites lists. Another practical application for the Favourites lists is if you often use your unit at different locations (such as on camping trips).

Managing Channels in the Favourites Lists

To do so press the ⏚ button to access the main menu and then press the ⏚ button twice to access the "Channel Arrangement" menu. Press the ⏚ button to access the Favourites list selection menu and use the arrow buttons (▼▲◀▶) and the ⏚ button to open the Favourites list you want. If you had already opened a Favourites list previously, that list is opened directly instead of the main list.

Managing Channels

You can move and delete channels as in the main list using the "and" buttons (see "Managing Channels in the Main List").

Press the ⬤ button to delete all channels from the Favourites list. The channels are only defi nitively deleted once you respond to the "Delete all channels?" prompt by pressing OK and after pressing the EXIT button also confi rm the "Save changes?" prompt by pressing OK.

Changing Favourites Names

Open the "Favourite-Name" submenu (main menu/Channel Arrangement). Use the ▲▼ buttons or the number pad to select the Favourites list you want to change and then press OK.

You can use the ▲▼ buttons to select the letters (upper and lower case) and numbers. Use the ◀▶ buttons to move the input position to the left or right.

Press OK to confirm the name change.

Copying Channels from the Main List to a Favourites List

To do so press the ⏚ button to access the main menu and then press the ⏚ button twice to access the "Channel Arrangement" menu. Press the ⏚ button to access the Favourites list selection menu and use the arrow buttons (▼▲◀▶) and the ⏚ button to open the Favourites list you want (see fi rst example - screenshot at left). If you had already opened a Favourites list previously, that list is opened directly instead of the main list.

Select the channel you want to copy from the main list (left-hand pane) using the ⏻ buttons or directly from the number pad and press 📋. The channel is copied to the selected Favourites list (see second example - see screenshot at left).

Switch between the left and right hand panes (in the screenshot the "News" Favourites list on the left and the main list on the right) using the ▶▶ buttons (in some cases also works with 🔒 and 🔒). In the selected pane the "Favourites List" or "Main List" title is highlighted in white (see second example - screenshot).

Select the channel memory location in the Favourites list using the ⏻ buttons and in the main list using the ⏻ buttons.

EPG - Electronic Programme Guide

The EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) displays information on the current and upcoming programmes. The information provided is determined by the broadcasters, and differs widely from channel to channel. Many channels are broadcast with no usable ancillary information (SI data). The same is true with regard to the programme listings (preview function). Some broadcasters transmit no data, others offer a listing with additional programme information days in advance.

Press the EPG button to call up and quit the EPG.

a) Current and next programme

EPG displays the title, start and end time of the current program and - depending on broadcaster - additional programme details. Press the EPG button again to display the title, start and end time of the next program and - depending on broadcaster - additional programme details. Press EPG to quit the EPG.

Pressing EXIT also cancels the programme details view immediately.

b) Further programme listings and additional information

EPG Activate main navigator, view information on current programme.

Depending on broadcaster, you get a schedule covering the current day or several days in advance.

Use the ▲▼ and ◀▶ buttons to scroll or page back and forth to find the programme you want. When you have selected the programme you want, press OK to call up more details. If no ancillary information is available a message is displayed telling you so.

If the programme information extends over more than one page you can use the ▲▼ buttons to scroll back and forth through it.

Press OK or EXIT to quit the programme information and return to the programme listing.

Protection (Parental Control/PIN Code/Menu Lock)

Press the ☐ button to access the main menu and then press the ☐ button to access the "Channel Arrangement" menu. Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the "Parental Control" submenu and confirm with OK.

Activating Parental Control

To activate the parental control function and bar the channels marked by a “?” in the main list (see “Marking for Parental Control”), set the “Protection” option in the “Parent Control” menu to “ON”.

Press the OK button to activate the input fi eld. Use the ▶ buttons to set the option to "ON" or to "OFF" if you want to cancel parental control. To confirm press again. Press exit to quit the menu.

Activating Menu Lock

The menu lock bars access to all menus and some button functions, meaning no settings can be changed and no channels deleted.

Use the ▼▲ buttons to move to the "Menu Lock" submenu and press the OK button to activate the input fi eld. Use the◀▶ buttons to set the option to "ON" or change it to "OFF" if you want to cancel the menu lock. To confirm pressOK again. Press EXIT to quit the menu.

PIN Code

The factory preset PIN code (security code) is "00000".

Changing the PIN code:

Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the "PIN" submenu and confirm again with OK.

Enter the current PIN code (factory preset "00000"). If you have entered the PIN code correctly, the receiver prompts you to enter the new PIN. Enter the new PIN you want to use and repeat it when prompted. The receiver reports "PIN code changed". Confirm this message by pressing OK. Press EXIT to quit the menu.

Note:

Do not forget your PIN! The factory preset can only be restored by a specialist service centre.

Audio Settings

Volume Control

The receiver volume can be adjusted in 20 stages using the ⏻ buttons.

Press the ⏻ button to mute the sound. Press again, or adjust the volume using the ⏱ buttons, to restore the sound.

Digital Output

The receiver has an electrical and an optical audio output for AC3 format (Dolby Digital). This gives you the opportunity to bring cinema quality sound into your living room. Connect the corresponding digital audio output to a Dolby Digital system.

Always follow the operating instructions for your Dolby Digital system.

Only a few programme providers broadcast the AC3 format. If no AC3 format is received, you can only make the normal stereo or mono settings and choose the broadcast languages.

Digital/Analog Audio Mode

In digital satellite technology the picture and sound are generally transmitted in digital format (MPEG-coded).

Where the term "analog audio mode" is used in this section, it signifies that the digital signals are converted in the unit into audio signals and made available at the "Left" and "Right" Cinch sockets and at the TV and VCR Scart sockets in analog format.

By contrast, in "digital audio mode" the signals are transmitted in digital format via the "Digital" sockets to the corresponding terminal devices, such as a Dolby Surround system, for decoding. Two-channel stereo signals (encoded in PCM format) or complex multi-channel surround signals (Dolby Digital/AC 3) can be transmitted on the digital sockets.

Audio Settings

Press the ☐ button to access the "Digital/analog audio mode" menu. You can use this menu purely as an information display and press the ☐ button again to quit it immediately, or you can change various settings.

Analog Outputs

In the right-hand pane you see the current signal status of the connections coming in to the rear of your satellite receiver.

An analog audio signal is received on the Cinch sockets and via the TV and VCR Scart sockets.

In some cases bilingual programmes are also broadcast over the two stereo "Left" and "Right" channels. In such cases you would hear German through the left channel and English through the right for example. To hear just one language, use the ⏻ buttons to select

"Mono-L" or "Mono-R" and confirm your selection by pressing OK. The current selection is highlighted in white.

Most bilingual or multilingual programmes are broadcast over separate audio tracks however. In this case, the left-hand pane would display German under 1 and English under 2 for example, and you would hear both languages in stereo. Use the 🔒 buttons to select the language you want and confi rm your selection by pressing OK. The current selected language (or audio track) is highlighted in white.

"Stereo" displayed in the following screenshot indicates that only one language is being transmitted in stereo. The content of the left-hand pane is dictated by the broadcaster. Line 1 might indicate "Deutsch" or "ger" instead of "Stereo" for example.

Digital Output

In the right-hand pane you see the current signal status on the digital outputs (= digital Cinch socket and optical digital output).

If "PCM" is displayed, the digital signal is encoded in PCM format. If "AC 3" is displayed, the audio signal is encoded in Dolby Digital format.

If available to select, choose the language or audio track you want from the left-hand pane using the ⏻ buttons and confirm your selection by

pressing OK. The current selected audio track is highlighted in white. The number of languages and audio tracks offered is dictated by the broadcaster.

A PCM-encoded language or audio track is always displayed. You may, however, also be offered two or more PCM-encoded languages or audio tracks with one or more in AC3 format.

For radio stations up to 20 PCM-encoded audio tracks may be available, which you can select using the button and confirm by pressing OK.

AC 3 - Global

When you select "Dolby Digital/AC 3" mode for digital audio, the digital output is automatically switched to AC 3 as soon as a relevant coding is transmitted (see also under Signal Paths/Digital Audio).

Timer

Press the ⬙ button to access the "Timer Programming" menu. Up to 8 timer events, for TV or radio programmes, can be entered.

Note:

Please note that if you select "VCR-Record = Standard" the video recorder must also be set to identical recording times.

Manual Timer Setting

Use the number pad or the ▲▼ buttons to select the next vacant input fi eld (in the example in the screenshot at the left timer number two).

Use the ▶▶ buttons to move to the date, start and stop time and channel fi elds one after the other (the active fi eld is highlighted in white).

Press the OK button to activate input in the selected fi eld (the fi eld is highlighted in black). Enter the data either directly using the number pad or by advancing the values using the ▶▶ buttons and save your input by pressing OK.

Once you have entered the date, start and stop time and channel you can quit the timer menu by pressing EXIT or programme more timer events.

Automatic Timer Setting

You can also import the timer data directly from the programme listings.

To do so, select the programme from the listing and then press Ⓞ to transfer its data into the timer. Confirm the data import (see screenshot at left) into the timer by pressing OK twice.

If the timer recording is started in Stand-by mode, the unit switches back to Stand-by when recording is finished.

Deleting a Timer Event

To delete a timer event select the relevant line in the timer using the number pad or the ▲▼ buttons and then press OK.

Timer

VPS

You can also control the timer and the video recorder by way of VPS (Video Programme System). To do so, programme the timer as usual in the EPG "Automatic Timer Setting" function or directly in the "Manual

Timer Setting" menu and then press the 📋 button on the selected timer line to activate the VPS function. A (v) is displayed. Make sure the correct VPS time is entered in the Start column. The VPS times can also be found in many listings magazines.

When you have imported the programme you want to record from the EPG into the timer you will automatically see the start time, usually corresponding to the VPS time, and the stop time.

When the VPS function is active (v) the start and stop times serve as a window within which VPS will start the programme even if it is delayed for example.

The timer record function remains active as long as the VPS information is being broadcast by the channel, meaning recording may also be automatically started at an earlier point - that is, within the preset time window, such as in the event of a knockout in the first round of a boxing match, or later - outside the window - such as when a football match goes into extra time.

If you programme the timer manually from the menu, do not forget also to enter the stop time, so as to set a VPS time window. If the programme you are recording is only short (e.g. 15 minutes) in duration, choose a stop time to preset an adequate time window (e.g. one to two hours). In this way you will be sure that the VPS time window will not be exceeded if there is a lengthy scheduling change.

Note: If you have unintentionally deleted a line and want to restore the original information, quit the timer menu by pressing the EXIT button twice.

Note: Please note that no remote control commands are accepted during timer recording, to prevent OSD displays from unintentionally being recorded over the picture. The volume is set to full during recording. To indicate that timer recording is active, the unit's channel indicator shows "rE c" if a command is received from the remote control. Timer recording

can only be prematurely aborted by pressing the ☐ = Stop button. After an abort "End" is displayed. The unit can then be operated as normal. If the timer recording is started in Stand-by mode, the unit switches back to Stand-by when recording is finished.

Note: The time and date are retrieved from the DVB data transmitted by the broadcaster. When changing from Summer to Winter time and vice versa, please adjust the time offset (“Time Adjust”) in the “Installation” menu.

For Central European Summer time = {+2 h}/ For Central European Winter time = {+1 h}

Please note that some “exotic” channels sometimes do not transmit the correct time. Check the date and time in the “Timer Programming” menu when programming.

Note: If the timer recording is started in Stand-by mode, the unit switches back to Stand-by when recording is finished.

Scan

Before starting a scan, you can find out from your specialist dealer, from the Internet or from listings magazines whether there have been any changes within your catchment area and whether any new channels are on offer.

Press the ☐ button and then use the ▼▲ buttons to access the "Search" (scan) menu and confirm with OK. The screenshot shown at the left appears.

Automatic Scan

An automatic scan covers all channels (CH 05-69).

Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the "Automatically" submenu and confirm with OK to start the automatic scan.

All new channels found in the scan are marked with a “+”.

Note:

If encrypted channels will also be broadcast in future, as in some neighbouring countries, they are fl agged by a "\$" sign. Your receiver cannot decode encrypted channels!

Any new channels you do not want to include in the main list (such as test signals, or encrypted channels) must be deleted from the scan list immediately the scan finishes by pressing the button. You can only delete new channels at this stage however.

Channel Search

With the Channel Search function you can scan all the stations broadcast on a channel directly or view only the current channel assignment. To view the current channel assignment the search still needs to be started, otherwise the desired information will not be displayed.

Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the “Channel” submenu and confirm with OK. Press the OK button again to activate the input field. Use the number pad or the ◀▶ buttons to select the channel and apply your selection by pressing OK.

Use the ▼▲ buttons to move to "Start" and start the scan by pressing OK.

New or “possible” encrypted channels are marked, and unwanted new channels deleted, as in the automatic scan function.

Scan

Manual Scan

Manual scanning should be left to an expert!

If the automatic scan and the channel search do not locate the desired channel, a manual scan may help.

You can enter the following parameters to search for a channel.

• Channel name
• Channel number
• Video PID
• Audio PID
• PCR PID

Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the entry you want to change and activate the input fi eld by pressing theok button. Press the ok button again to apply your input. When you have made all your entries, quit the menu by pressing Exit and confi rm that you want to save the changes by pressing OK.

The channel is added to the end of the main list.

Important note for the scan

In the receiver basic setting the scan is performed based on a pre-defined channel list (i.e. VHF channels 5-12 with 7 MHz bandwidth and UHF channels 21-69 with 8 MHz bandwidth). If you are operating the receiver in a system which converts incoming signals into a DVB-T signal, thereby changing the above assignment between channel and bandwidth, you can confi gure this on the Installation/Miscellaneous/ Bandwidth menu. The following settings can be made:

CCIR (standard for Germany):

■ VHF: 7 MHz
■ UHF: 8 MHz

Auto:

■ VHF: 7+8 MHz
■ UHF: 7+8 MHz

Installation

To access the Installation menu, press the Ⓜ button and then use the ▼▲ buttons and confirm with OK.

Time Offset

Following power-up, or after a power outage, the time and date for the system clock (timer) are adopted from the received data. To ensure the receiver's time and date correspond to the local time, the variation from the standard time must be specified.

The offset for Central European Summer time is +2 hours, and +1 hour for Central European Winter time.

Please check the time offset ("Time Adjust") the first time you use the unit and when the time changes in the Spring and Autumn.

Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the "Time Adjust" submenu and press OK to activate the input fi eld. Change the time offset using the ◀▶ buttons and confi rm and apply by pressing OK. Press the EXIT button to quit the menu.

Language/Character Set

Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the "Language" submenu and press OK to activate the input fi eld. Change the language using the ◀▶ buttons and confi rm and apply by pressing OK. Press the EXIT button to quit the menu.

The following languages are available: German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Turkish and Portuguese

The DVB standard specifies automatic character set switching. Unfortunately, not all broadcasters conform to this standard, so a text may include characters from an incorrect character set. The unit features automatic character set switching, though different character sets can be preset by default as required, enabling a Greek text, for example, to be viewed in the correct format.

Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the "Character Set" submenu and press OK to activate the input fi eld. Change the character set using the ◀▶ buttons and confi rm and apply by pressing OK. Press the EXIT button to quit the menu.

The following character sets are available: Auto, Standard, Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, Greek and Hebrew

If you set "4:3" all programmes are played in 4:3 format.

If you set "16:9" all programmes broadcast in broadband format, and fl agged appropriately, are automatically switched to 16:9 format.

Digital Audio

Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the "Digital Audio" submenu and press OK to activate the input fi eld. Change the settings using the ◀▶ buttons and confi rm and apply by pressing OK. Press the EXIT button to quit the menu.

There are two selection options:

Standard:

The signal on the digital output is encoded in PCM format

AC 3/Dolby Digital:

If you have a Dolby Digital system, you can select "Dolby Digital" mode. If your satellite receiver receives a Dolby Digital-encoded audio signal, the digital output is automatically switched to Dolby Digital format ("AC 3").

Note: In both modes you can press the

button at any time to check the

current format of the signal on the digital output and of course select a different one as necessary.

VCR Signals

Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the "VCR Signals" submenu and confi rm your selection with OK. The following menu is displayed (see screenshot at left).

TV -> VCR

If "ON" is selected, the video and audio signals are transmitted from the TV socket to the VCR socket even in Stand-by mode. At "OFF" you obtain a lower power consumption.

VCR Signal

In VCR playback you can choose between "CBVS/RGB" for a VHS video recorder and "YC" = S-Video for connection of a S-VHS video recorder.

Installation

VCR-Record

For automatic VCR recordings using the timer function (see Timer) two different modes are available for the VCR Scart socket:

Standard:

The video output signal (pin 19 on VCR socket) to the VCR is always available.

Pin 8 on the VCR Scart socket (switching voltage) is switched as an input, meaning when you press the playback button on your video recorder the video and audio signals coming from the video recorder are automatically switched through by your satellite receiver via the VCR Scart socket to the TV Scart socket and forwarded from there to the TV set.

For timer-controlled video recordings in standard mode you must enter identical start and end times on your video recorder and in the "Timer Programming" menu.

Auto-Record:

The video output signal (pin 19 on VCR socket) to the VCR is always available.

When a timer event is active - that is, when the unit switches to the desired channel at the pre-programmed time - a switching voltage of 12 V is outputted on pin 8 of the VCR Scart socket.

An "Auto-Record"-compatible video recorder detects this switching signal and automatically switches to Record.

When the recording is finished pin 8 is switched back to input and is again ready to switch through the VCR signal on playback.

Active Antenna

Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the "Active Antenna" submenu and confirm your selection with OK. The following menu is displayed (see screenshot at left).

When using an active DVB-T indoor antenna (such as the BZD 30 or 40 from Kathrein) it is necessary to power the antenna via the antenna cable (only if the antenna does not have its own power supply).

Activate the input fi eld in this case.

Antenna

Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the “Antenna” submenu and press OK to activate the input fi eld. Change the settings using the ◀▶ buttons and confi rm and apply by pressing OK. Press the EXIT button to quit the menu.

Installation

In Stand-by

If you have connected an additional DVB-T receiver to your receiver in loop-through mode, you can also power the antenna in Stand-by mode, thereby maintaining the signal for the second receiver. Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the "In Standby" submenu and press OK to activate the input fi eld. Change the settings using the◀▶ buttons and confi rm and apply by pressingOK. Press the EXIT button to quit the menu.

Note:

If no second receiver is connected, the setting should be left "Off", to keep your receiver's current consumption as low as possible.

Aligning the Antenna

In the "Antenna alignment" submenu you can access the menu familiar from the First Installation level and view the signal strength and reception quality for the chosen channel (select using the number pad or the ▶▶ buttons).

If two or more DVB-T transmitter locations can be received, it is possible to pre-assign the "Antenna alignment" function by default to the ⓘ button and activate it as necessary. To do so, from the "Installation" menu select the "Various" submenu and choose the "Antenna" function.

First Installation

You can access the "First Installation" menu again from here. For a description of that menu refer to the "First Installation" section.

Various

Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the "Various" submenu and confirm your selection with OK. The following menu is displayed (see screenshot at left).

Display Time

In this menu you can choose how long the channel information remains on display after selecting a channel.

Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the "Display Time" submenu and press OK to activate the input field. Change the settings using the ◀▶ buttons and confirm and apply by pressing OK.

Function

In this menu you can choose the function you want to assign to the ⓘ button. Available options are Banner, Signal quality (signal quality and parameters for the current selected channel) and Antenna (signal strength and reception quality for channel).

Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the "Display Time" submenu and press OK to activate the input field. Change the settings using the ◀▶ buttons and confirm and apply by pressing OK.

Time Indicator

In this menu you can choose whether the current time is shown on the display in Stand-by mode.

Use the ▼▲ buttons to select the "Display Time" submenu and press OK to activate the input field. Change the settings using the ◀▶ buttons and confirm and apply by pressing OK.

Bandwidth

Interconnect your recorder and the receiver (VCR socket) by a Scart cable. If you have a S-VHS-(S-Video) recorder, from the "Installation" menu select the "Signals" submenu and change the selection (TV Scart VCR) so that the "YC" signal is connected to the VCR socket.

Recording

To record a current programme set your recorder to Record.

Note that the volume on the receiver is set to full during recording (L 20 on the 7-segment display). This is the only way to obtain the full audio quality on subsequent playback.

Also make sure that you do not perform any other actions on the receiver during this direct recording process - anything on-screen displays would be recorded along with the programme.

With regard to timer recording refer to the "Timer" section.

Playback

Your recorder plays back - i.e. transmits the signal from the VCR to the TV set - automatically in operation or in Stand-by mode.

The so-called switching voltage of the recorder is detected by the receiver and the VCR signal is switched through to the TV set.

The 7-segment display shows "VCR".

You can switch to the receiver channel at any time, even without stopping playback on your recorder. To do so press the 📋 button. To switch back to the recorder playback, press the 📋 button twice.

Note: The

button controls the TV switching voltage (pin 8) on the TV Scart socket. The TV switching voltage is activated when the video signal from the receiver or from the recorder is switched to the TV set.

In normal mode, without the recorder, you can press the 📋 button to toggle between the receiver channel and another video signal on the TV.

This additional video signal on the TV might, for example, comes from

your existing "analog" antenna, from a cable connection or from a DVD player connected directly to the TV.

The listing of video signals available on the TV is dependent on the

specifi cation of your TV set.

In the above operating mode with a recorder during playback,

the 📋 button would thus set the video sources of the TV, the recorder and the receiver one after the other.

Return Path

The video signal described above from the TV set can be returned to your recorder in Stand-by mode.

If you want to use this function, from the "Installation" menu select the "Signals" submenu and then choose "VCR signals".

Open the "VCR signals" menu by pressing the OK button.

Activate the "TV -> VCR" input fi eld by pressing OK and change the selection using the ▶▶ buttons to "ON". Confirm your selection

with OK.
