Why does smoke come out on first use?

The non-stick coating produces a slight smoke on first heating. This is normal and not harmful. Let the appliance heat empty for 10 minutes before first use to eliminate this manufacturing residue.

How to use the Kalorik TKG SM 1002 sandwich toaster?

1. Preheat the appliance closed until the green light comes on. 2. Open, place a buttered slice of bread butter side down on the plate. 3. Add filling, then the second buttered slice butter side up. 4. Close and cook for 2 to 3 minutes to taste. 5. Remove with a wooden or plastic spatula, never metal.

How to clean the non-stick plates?

Unplug the appliance and allow it to cool completely. Wipe the interior and corners with paper towel or a soft cloth. For the exterior, use a slightly damp cloth. Never use abrasive products, metal scouring pads, and never immerse the appliance in water.

Can I use butter or oil on the plates?

Yes, it is optional. The non-stick coating allows cooking without fat. If desired, coat the plates with butter, margarine or oil for extra taste. Avoid using too much.

How long does it take to cook a croque-monsieur?

Cooking time is generally 2 to 3 minutes. You can adjust according to your preferred browning. The green light may turn off and on during cooking; this is normal (thermostat regulation).

What if the green light does not come on?

Check that the appliance is properly plugged in and the mains socket works. The red light should come on to indicate power. If the green light does not come on after several minutes, contact after-sales service.

Does the appliance heat up quickly?

Yes, preheating is fast. The green light typically comes on within 2 to 3 minutes, indicating cooking temperature is reached. You can then start preparing your sandwiches.

Can I use metal utensils on the plates?

No, never use metal utensils as they scratch and damage the non-stick coating. Use exclusively a wooden or heat-resistant plastic spatula.

How to store the appliance after use?

Unplug it, allow it to cool completely. Clean as instructed. Wind the cord without twisting and store in a dry place, away from dust. Avoid placing heavy objects on top.

Is there a risk of burns during use?

Yes, the plates become very hot. Do not touch metal surfaces during and after cooking. Open the appliance carefully to avoid steam. Use a spatula to handle sandwiches. Keep the appliance out of reach of children.

Please read these instructions carefully before using the appliance.

Important: People (including children) who are not able to use the appliance in a safe way, due to their physical, sensorial or mental capacity or their lack of experience or knowledge, must never use the appliance except if they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety or if they previously received instructions concerning the safe use of the appliance.

Close supervision is necessary to prevent children from using the appliance as a toy.

☐ Check that your mains voltage corresponds to that stated on the appliance.
☐ Never leave the appliance unsupervised when in use.
From time to time check the appliance and its cord for damages. Never use the appliance if cord or appliance shows any signs of damage. In that case, all repairs should be made by a competent qualified electrician(*).
☐ Only use the appliance for domestic purposes and in the way indicated in these instructions.
☐ Never immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid for any reason whatsoever. Never place it into the dishwasher.

☐ Never use the appliance near hot surfaces.

Before cleaning, always unplug the appliance from the power supply.

☐ Never use the appliance outside and always place it in a dry environment.

☐ Never use accessories which are not recommended by the producer. They could constitute a danger to the user and risk to damage the appliance.

☐ Never move the appliance by pulling the cord. Make sure the cord cannot get caught in any way. Do not wind the cord around the appliance and do not bend it.

☐ Stand the appliance on a table or flat surface.

☐ Make sure the appliance has cooled down before cleaning and storing it.

☐ Make sure the cord never comes into contact with the hot parts of the appliance.

☐ The temperature of the accessible surfaces may be very high when the appliance is in use. Make sure not to touch these hot parts of the appliance.

☐ Make sure the appliance never comes into contact with inflammable materials, such as curtains, cloth, etc...when it is in use, as a fire might occur.

☐ Be careful not to scratch the special coating of the cooking plate, as you might get little pieces of this coating into the food. Use a classical wooden spatula or a heat resistant plastic one.

□ Always unplug the appliance when it is not in use, especially since it is not equipped with an on/off switch.

☐ Only use the appliance for food that is supposed to be cooked.

☐ Your appliance must never be switched on through an external timer or any kind of separate remote control system.

USE

• Protective coating burn off will cause smoking on first use. This is NOT harmful and will disappear after a short time. However, we advise you to operate the appliance for 10 minutes without food before the first use.
• When using for the first time, wipe the surface of the plates with a damp cloth, then dry. You may season the plates with butter, margarine or cooking fat. Since the sandwich maker has a non-stick surface, the use of butter or oil is optional.
• Close the sandwich maker and plug into the electrical outlet. The red pilot light will come to indicate that the appliance is switched on.
  • Prepare your sandwich while the unit is heating.
• The green pilot light will come on when the cooking temperature is reached. During use, this ready light will come on and off regularly. This simply means that the thermostat is regulating the appliance's temperature.
  • Attention: during operation, the baking plates heat up. Pay attention not to get burned.
• Fully open the sandwich maker. Place a slice of bread in the bottom half with the buttered side against the plate.
• Fill the sandwich.
• Add the top slice with the buttered side up and carefully close the toaster. Do not force shut. Steam will be ejected from between the plates; make sure that fingers do not come into contact with it.
• Lock the two halves with the wire clip while toasting.
• Your sandwich will be toasted in 2 to 3 min or longer to suit your taste. Open the toaster and remove sandwich using a plastic or wooden spatula. Never use a metal knife as this may damage the non-stick coating.
• Close the lid to preserve the heat until you are ready to toast the next sandwiches.
  • Prepare additional sandwiches if desired while the others are cooking.
• Unplug immediately when finished.

HINTS FOR BEST RESULTS

• Always preheat before use. Plug cord into power outlet while preparing the fillings.
• Flavoured butter may also be used.
• For additional flavour use bacon dripping. Brush drippings on the outside of the bread.

CLEANING

• Before cleaning, unplug and wait for the appliance to cool down.
• Wipe the outside with only a slightly moistened cloth ensuring that no moisture, oil or grease enters the cooling slots.
• Wipe the inside and the edges of the plate with a paper towel or a soft cloth.
• Do not clean the inside or outside with any abrasive scouring pad or steel wool as this will damage the finish.
• Do not immerse in water or any other liquid.
