Installation location

• Use this device in dry indoor areas only and never outdoors.

- Use this device in well-ventilated areas. Do not block off the air openings. Put the device in a place only in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Power supply

• The mains voltage must match the information on the rating label of the device.
- The power plug is used as the disconnect device. Please be sure that the power plug is in operable condition.
- Only removing the power plug can separate the device completely from the mains supply.
- The ON/OFF button does not separate the device from the mains. In order to separate the device from the power supply, unplug the power cord.
- Avoid damages to the power cord that may be caused by kinks or contact with sharp corners.
• Make sure, the device, including power cord and power plug are not exposed to hot surfaces.
- Only unplug from the power outlet by the plug itself. Do not pull on the cord.
- Disconnect the power plug when the device is not in use, in case of malfunctions and prior to each cleaning.
- Unplug the power cord during lightning storms and prolonged absence in order to protect the electronics against overvoltage and damage.
- If the power cord or the casing of the device is damaged or if the device is dropped, the device may not be used before it is examined by a professional electrician.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Condensation

- Should this device be cold and be brought into a warm and possibly damp environment, condensation can build up inside it. Condensation can hinder the proper functioning of the device. In extreme cases, condensation can also result in damages caused by a short circuit. Leave the device in a warm, dry environment for about 1-2 hours in order to dry up or release any possible condensation before you use it again.

Batteries

• Caution: There is danger of explosion from improper replacement of the batteries. Replace batteries only with the same or equivalent type of battery.
• Always change the entire battery pack. Do not mix old and new batteries, or batteries with different charge state.
• Make sure the batteries are correctly inserted. Observe the polarity (+) plus / (-) negative on the battery and the housing. Improperly inserted batteries can lead to leakage or, in extreme cases, a fire or an explosion.
• Never expose batteries to excessive heat (e.g. bright sun, fire), and never throw them into fire. The batteries could explode.
  • The connections must not be short-circuited.
• Remove used batteries. Remove the batteries if you know that the device will not be used for a longer period of time. Otherwise, the batteries could leak and cause damage.
• Keep batteries out of reach of small children. If batteries have been swallowed, seek immediate medical attention.
  • Non-rechargeable batteries must not be recharged.
• Rechargeable batteries are to be removed from the device before being charged.
  • Only use top-quality batteries. Cheap batteries could leak and result in damages.
• If the batteries leak, remove them with a cloth and dispose of them accordingly. Prevent battery acid from coming into contact with skin and eyes. If you do get battery acid in your eyes, flush them thoroughly with lots of water and consult a physician immediately. If battery acid comes into contact with your skin, wash the affected area with lots of water and soap.

Unpacking and checking

• Carefully take the device and its accessories out of the packaging. Retain the packaging in case you would like to store the device away or transport it at a later date. If you choose to dispose of the packaging, then please do so according to the applicable legal regulations.
• Check the packaging contents for completeness and damages. Should the contents in the packaging not be complete or be damaged, do not use the device. Return it to your retail outlet immediately.

Setting up the device

• Set the device on an even, stable and dry surface.
• Please ensure that the room is adequately ventilated. Keep a minimum distance of 10 cm around the device to ensure that there is adequate cooling.

Power failure backup batteries

• In the event of a power failure, settings (e.g. the time) will be deleted. To prevent this from happening, the device has power failure protection batteries.
• Open the battery compartment (24) on the back of the device and insert two 1.5V, type AAA/UM-4 batteries. These batteries are not included.
• When doing so, pay attention to the correct polarity (+/-) as shown by the markings.
• Close the battery compartment. Make sure that the cover clicks properly into place.
  • Change the batteries, when they run out.
• Please also read the safety instructions regarding handling batteries (see chapter entitled IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS).

Switching the device on and off

• Make sure that the mains voltage corresponds to the information on the label of the device. Connect the power plug (25) to a suitable power outlet.
  • The time display 12:00 will blink, if the time is not set.
• Press the ON/OFF button (17) on the device to switch it on.
• Turn the device off again by means of the ON/OFF button, when you have finished using it.
• Pull the plug out of the power outlet in order to disconnect the device completely from the mains supply.

Selecting an operating mode

- Choose an operating mode by means of the FUNCTION switch (22).

Display

Various LED indicator lights will come on in the display (7) in order to show that a function is switched on.

Volume

• Set the desired volume by turning the volume control (23) on the device.
  • To reduce the volume, turn the control in the direction of MIN.
  • To increase the volume, turn the control in the direction of MAX..

- Warning: Extremely high volume can lead to permanent hearing damage due to excessive sound pressure.

Connecting an external device

• Using the AUX IN socket (20), an external music player (e.g. MP3 player) can be connected to this device and music can be played over the loudspeakers.
• Attention: Before connecting your external playback device, please also read the operating instructions for information regarding safety instructions and usage with other devices.
  • Turn off the playback device and the external playback device.
• Connect the external playback device using a stereo cable ( 3.5 mm). The cable is not included in the scope of delivery.
• Connect the stereo cable with the AUX IN socket (20) and put the other end into the headphone jack or the LINE-OUT jack of the playback device. If the external device has a smaller or larger socket, then use a corresponding adaptor (not included in the scope of delivery).
• First turn on the external device and set the volume to zero. Then turn this device on and set the volume to zero as well.
• Slide the FUNCTION switch (22) to the operating mode BUZZER/AUX IN.
• Now you can regulate the volume of both devices. If the playback device is connected via the LINE-OUT jack on the external device, then regulate the volume on the playback device.
  • However, playback is controlled using the external device.
• Please note that if you only turn off this device, the external playback device will continue playing.

Connecting headphones

• This device is equipped with a 3.5 mm headphone jack (21) to which you can connect most commercially available headphones or earphones (not included).
• If headphones or earphones are connected to the headphone jack, the built-in speakers will be deactivated automatically.

Display lighting

• You can set the brightness of the display panel by means of the DIMMER switch (19) on the back of the device.
• The panel is brightly lit, when the switch is in the BRIGHT position. In the DIM position, the display panel will fade.

Antennas

• For FM reception, this device is equipped with a FM wire antenna (26). Unwind the FM wire antenna and lay it out.
• A ferrite antenna has been built into this device for the AM reception. Orientate the device in such a way that you will receive the stations with the best possible sound quality.

Operating the radio

• Slide the FUNCTION switch (22) on the device to AM or FM. If the function switch is in the AM position, the device is operating in the AM radio range. If the function switch is in the FM position, the device is operating in the FM radio range.
• Select the desired radio station by means of the TUNING control (27).
• The LED indicator FMST. (C) will come on, if you are receiving a FM stereo station. Only FM stations are broadcast in stereo.

Setting the time

• After you have connected the power plug (25) to a power outlet, the time 12:00 will blink in the display (7).
- Hold the CLOCK/ADJ. button (18) down for 2 seconds. Either 24 H or 12 H will be shown in the display. To change the time configuration, hold the CLOCK/ADJ. button (18) down again for 2 seconds. If you choose the 24-hour time format, the time of 0.00 will blink in the display panel. For the 12-hour time format, the time 12:00 will blink in the display.
- Press the ◄◄/MINUTE button (12) to set the minutes and the ►►/HOUR button (11) to set the hours. Confirm by pressing the CLOCK/ADJ. button.
- If you select the 12-hour display, the LED indicator PM (D) will also be displayed for times after noon.
- If you would like to reset the time again later, press briefly on the CLOCK/ADJ. button. The time will blink in the display. Set the time by means of the ◀◀/MINUTE and ▶▶/HOUR buttons and confirm by pressing the CLOCK/ADJ. button.

The time will not be saved, if you pull the plug (25) and if there are no batteries in the battery compartment (24) on the back of the device. In that event, set the new time again.

Setting the alarm

• You can set a time to wake up at which the device will come on either in the radio or CD mode. Or you can be awakened by an alarm signal. You can save two wake-up times in total.
• Press the ALARM1 (15) or the ALARM2 (14) button. The time digits will blink in the display.
• Set the wake up time with the ◀◀/MINUTE (12) and ▶▶/HOUR (11) buttons and confirm it by pressing either the ALARM1 or ALARM2 button.
• The LED indicator AL.1 (J) or AL.2 (I) will light up. If you have saved 2 wake up times, both LED indicators will come on.
• Set the desired volume by turning the volume control (23) on the device.
• Set the FUNCTION switch (22) to CD, if you would like to be awakened by music from a CD. Make sure that there is a CD in the CD compartment (1).
• Set the FUNCTION switch to AM or FM, if you would like to be awakened by the radio. Select the desired radio station by means of the TUNING control (27).

• Set the FUNCTION switch to BUZZER/AUX IN in order to be awakened by an alarm signal.

• If the device is switched on by the wake up function, the particular LED indicator AL.1 or AL.2 will blink in the display. To switch off the alarm, press on the relevant ALARM1 or ALARM2 button or press on the ON/OFF button (17).

• Delete the wake up time by pressing once on the ALARM1 or ALARM2 button. The LED indicator AL.1 or AL.2 will go out.

The alarm function is active, if the LED indicators AL.1 or AL.2 come on. The device will switch on every day at the saved time.

The wake up settings will be deleted if you pull the power plug (25) and if there are no batteries inside the battery compartment (24) on the back of the device. Set the wake up time again.

Repeat alarm (SNOOZE)

• If the device is switched on by the wake up function, it can be switched off temporarily by means of the SNOOZE button (2). The LED indicator SNOOZE (E) will come on.
  • The device will be switched on again after approx. 5 minutes.

Programmed switch-off (SLEEP)

• To fall asleep with music, a time of 90, 60, 30 or 15 minutes can be set. After the time has elapsed, the device will automatically switch off.
• Press the SLEEP button (4) several times to determine the switch-off time. The LED indicator SLEEP (H) will come on in the display.
• To deactivate the sleep function, press the SLEEP button as often as it takes until the LED indicator SLEEP goes out.

You can switch off the device at any time with the ON/OFF button (17) before the programmed time has elapsed.

If you use the sleep function in CD operating mode, the CD may have finished playing before the device switches off automatically. For example, if you set the device to switch off after 90 minutes but the playing time of the CD is only 45 minutes, then the CD will have finished playing, before the shut-off time is reached.

Disc Formats

• This device supports the following CD formats: audio CDs, writable CD-Rs and CD-RWs. Other discs or computer CDs cannot be read by the device. Do not insert any of those formats into the device.
  • Do not insert any blank CD-R/CD-RWs into the device.
• The playback quality and power are not guaranteed, if non-standard format definitions/productions of CD-R/RW discs are used. This does not constitute a defect of this device.
  • The playback quality of writable CDs depends on the recording and the quality of the blank CD.
• Do not attach any stickers, labels etc. to either side of a CD-R/RW disc, as this can lead to malfunctions.

Inserting and removing a CD

• Slide the FUNCTION switch (22) on the device to CD.
• Open the CD tray (1) by pressing on the OPEN/CLOSE CD tray lock (3). The lid of the CD tray will open upwards. Never use force to open the CD tray.
• Remove the shipping safety lock, when you open the CD tray for the first time.
• Insert a CD into the tray, so that the printed side is facing upward. Press on a point in the centre of the CD until it locks into place on the axis.
• Press the CD tray lid down to shut the CD tray. The CD will now be read.
• Before reopening the CD tray, always make sure that the CD is no longer rotating. Always press on the button (13) first to end the rotation of the CD.
• To remove the CD, place one finger on the centre of the CD (the middle of the spindle) and another finger on the edge of the disc. Pull the CD out carefully.

Please note:

• Only remove the CD once the CD tray has been completely opened.
• Never put more than one CD in the CD tray at a time.
• Do not put any objects other than CDs in the CD tray.
• Never touch the clear laser lens inside the CD tray.
• Bumping into the device could cause the tracks to skip.
• Very high volumes can cause vibrations which could also cause the tracks to skip.
- Keep the CD tray closed except when you are changing the CD.
- Never open the CD tray when a CD is playing or if a CD is still spinning.

Audio-CD abspielen

• Switch the device into playback mode and insert an audio CD as as previously described.
• In the display (7), the total number of tracks on the CD will be shown for 2 seconds. The display will change to indicate the time. Press the DISPLAY button (5) to display the total number of tracks again for 2 seconds.
• If the CD is being played, you can use the DISPLAY button to show the current played track number (approx. 2 seconds).

- Playback/pause: Press the ▶/II button (10) to start and pause playback. If playback has been paused, the track number will blink in the display (approx. 2 seconds).

- Stopping playback: Press the ■ button (13) to stop playback. The total number of tracks on the CD will be shown in the display (approx. 2 seconds).

- Next or previous track: Use the ◀◀/MINUTE (12) and ▶▶/HOUR (11) buttons to skip a track forward/back. When the button ◀MINUTE (12) is pressed once, the current track will be played from the beginning. When the button is pressed twice, then the previous track will be played. When the ▶▶/HOUR button (11) is pressed, the next track will be played.

- Fast forwarding and rewinding: By holding down the ◀◀/MINUTE (12) and ▶▶/HOUR (11) buttons, you can fast forward or rewind the current track. Once the desired place has been found, let go of the button to continue playback.

Repeat function

• You can set this function while a track is being played back or when the device is in stop mode.
• Press the PLAY MODE button (8) once to continuously repeat the current track. The LED indicator REPEAT (F) will blink in the display.
• Press the PLAY MODE button twice to continuously repeat the entire CD. The LED indicator REPEAT will come on.
• Press the PLAY MODE button twice to switch off this function.

Random playback

• Press the PLAY MODE button (8) three times to play all tracks in random order. The LED indicator RANDOM (B) will come on.
• Press the PLAY MODE button again to switch off this function.

Programming a playback list

• You can program the CD player to play a sequence of up to 20 tracks.
- Switch the device on with the ON/OFF button (17) and then switch the device into CD playback mode.
- Press the PROGRAM button (9) once to switch to programming mode. The number of the storage space, P.01, will be shown briefly on the display. Then, the track numbers .00 and the LED indicator PROGRAM (G) will blink in the display (7).

• Using the the ◀◀/MINUTE (12) and ▶▶/HOUR (11) buttons, select a track from the CD. Save your selection with the PROGRAM button. The second storage space (P.02), will be opened and can be set as previously described.
• Continue to program further tracks as described above.
• Press the ▶/II button (10) to play the programme. The LED indicator PROGRAM (G) will come on.
  • After all programmed tracks have finished playback, the CD player will stop automatically.
• Press the ■ button (13) to stop playing the programme. The playback list will remain in the device's memory. You can then play the same playback list again by pressing the PROGRAM button (9) and then the ▶/II button (10).

The repeat function can be combined with playing a programme. Read the section entitled "Repeat Function" to learn more.

Changing a playback list

• Example: You programmed five tracks and would like to add more tracks to the playback list.
- Press the PROGRAM button (9) five times while the device is in stop mode, until all programmed tracks have been shown once on the display (7).
- Press the PROGRAM button again to open storage space six (P.06). Then the track numbers, 00 and the LED indicator PROGRAM (G) will blink in the display. Using the ◀◀/MINUTE (12) and ▶▶/HOUR (11) buttons, select a track from the CD. Save your selection with the PROGRAM button.
• Example: You would like to change a programmed track.
- Press the PROGRAM button in stop mode until the track to be changed is shown on the display.
- Select a new track with the ◀◀/MINUTE (12) and ▶▶/HOUR (11) buttons and save the change with the PROGRAM button.

Deleting a playback list

• While in stop mode, press the PROGRAM button (9). The programmed track number and LED indicator PROGRAM (G) will blink in the display (7).
• Now hold the ■ button (13) down for approx. 3 seconds. The time will be shown in the display. This means that the playback list has been deleted.

Compact Disc

• Wipe off fingerprints and dust thoroughly with a soft cloth. Wipe from the center to the edge (not circular).
• Clean the disc periodically with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasives.
  • Do not write on CDs. Do not put any stickers on it.
• Protect your CDs against dust and scratches. Always keep it, therefore, in its case when not in use.
• Remove the CD from its case by pressing on the middle of the holder and then touching the edges only of the CD.

Cleaning the housing

• Pull the plug out of the wall outlet before every cleaning.
- Remove dust with a soft dusting cloth.
• Do not use a wet sponge, wax, spray polishes, or abrasives.
- Caution: No water must reach the housing. If so, unplug the power cord and let the device dry thoroughly before operating it again. Please do not dry the device in an oven or microwave oven.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If an error occurs, check the table below first, before you contact your dealer or send in the device. The address and hotline number can be found on the warranty card. Do not open the device and do not try to repair it yourself. You will lose the warranty claim and it is dangerous! Refer to the warranty conditions on the following pages.

No sound. The volume is	not set properly. Depending on the device	, the volume must be set on the externally connected device as well as on the playback device.If the external device has a LINE-OUT jack, then set the volume on the playback device.
There is no playback. The connection is faulty. Check the connection to the playback device.

CD-player
The CD player doesn't work.	The device is not in CD playback mode.	Select the CD playback mode with the switch FUNCTION (22).
	The CD is not inserted properly or there is no CD.	Insert a CD. Make sure that the CD label is facing upwards and that the CD is lying on the holder properly.
	The CD is not compatible with this device. The audio format cannot be played with this device.	Insert a CD with a compatible audio format.
	The CD is dirty or scratched. Clean the CD or play another CD.
	Laser lens dirty or scuffed. Clean the lens. Leave the device in a dry surrounding for 1-2 hours where the condensation can dry.
The CD is skipping tracks.	The CD is dirty or scratched. Clean the CD or play another CD.
	A program is being played. End program	playback.

Radio operation
No radio signal.	The device is not in radio mode.	Select the radio mode with the switch FUNCTION (22).
Disturbances when playing FM radio.	The station is not properly tuned.	Tune the station again.
	The FM aerial (26) is not rolled out properly.	Lay the FM aerial out properly.

This warranty does not affect your statutory warranty claims as consumer toward the seller of the device. These rights are not affected by our manufacturer's warranty. The warranty granted by us is valid only for domestic use of the device and is limited to the area of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The warranty term is 3 years as of the date of purchase.

It is within JGC's discretion to fulfil the warranty by repair or replacement of the device or defect component. Other claims are excluded. In case of questions regarding JGC products you no longer need to take the time to go to the seller but may call our service hotline or service center directly. A team of highly qualified product consultants and technicians is available from Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Our service partner requires proof of purchase, either as original receipt or cash receipt printed by the seller to perform warranty repairs. The serial number on the device must also be readable. We are unable to perform warranty services free of charge without proof of purchase. We recommend keeping the original packaging in order to ensure safe transport of the device in case of a warranty claim.

Warranty repairs may be performed exclusively by E2 Servicecenter GmbH or contractual partners authorised by it. Repairs performed by the customer or other shops void the warranty; a claim for cost reimbursement does not exist.

The warranty is void or does not cover:

⇒ in case of mechanical damages to the device from outside forces
⇒ in case of transportation damages
⇒ for wear parts
→ in case of operating errors and misuse
⇒ when placing the device in wet rooms or outdoors
⇒ in case of damages resulting from force, war, water, lightning, excess voltage, and other reasons not within the scope of JGC's responsibility.
⇒ in case of excessive use, in particular in case of non-domestic use
⇒ in case of disregard of the user instructions and installation errors
⇒ if the device does not have a technical defect
⇒ for transport and travel costs as well as costs incurred by installing and uninstalling the device

The warranty does not include any subsequent liability on our part, in particular no liability for damages to the device itself or incurred by the loss of the device until the time of repair (e.g. travel costs, handling costs, etc.). However, this does not limit or exclude our statutory warranty, in particular pursuant to the Product Liability Act. Also JGC is not liable for indirect or subsequent loss of sound recordings (CD / DVD etc.) or similar material, and ancillary equipment of any kind (power supplies, speakers, etc.).

Any warranty services provided by us do not extend the warranty term of 3 years as of the date of purchase, also not in terms of possibly exchanged components.
