SPEED QUEEN MULTI CYCLE TEMPERATURE CONTROL TIMER KNOBUse these operating instructions and the Speed Queen Handbook to Better Automatic Washing which provides the necessary information on sorting, pre-treating, detergents and other things you should know to get best washing results.
Before using washer, make sure the three pronged washer cord is plugged into a properly grounded, 115 volt electrical outlet, that washer hoses are connected to hot and cold water faucets, and that faucets are turned on. Be sure the drain hose is not kinked and is inserted into a drain receptacle. See Installation Instructions for details of proper washer installation.
TO WASH CLOTHES
1 Sort clothes into loads of similar fabrics, color and soil. Pre-treat or soak heavy or special stains.

natural_image

3 Add measured detergent to the front part of the load. See Handbook and package directions for brand being used.

HOT COLD WARM WARM COLD COLD WASH RINSE TEMPERATURE4 Set temperature control. One control provides a choice of wash and rinse water temperatures in three combinations.
If a different rinse temperature is wanted, reset control after the washer has filled with wash water. See Washing
Chart for suggested water temperatures, page 8.
5 To Set: With timer knob pushed IN, turn slowly to the right so the red indicator is at the desired setting as follows:
NORMAL CYCLE
EXTRA FILL — Five minute fill. USE ONLY IF WATER PRESSURE IS SO LOW THAT TUB DOES NOT FILL AT LARGE SETTING.
LARGE — Four minute fill — 14 gallons water — full tub. Use for regular size loads and lint shedding loads.
MEDIUM — Three minute fill — 10½ gallons water — ¾ tub.
SMALL — Two minute fill — 7 gallons water — 12 tub.
DURABLE PRESS CYCLE
Set for LARGE, MEDIUM or SMALL as above. Use LARGE for all durable press loads.
Make sure the clothes are covered by water.

Close loading door or washer will not spin. Washer will complete the cycle automatically and will stop at the nearest OFF position. Push timer knob IN and remove clothes.
THE WASHER WILL STOP (PAUSE) FOR ONE MINUTE BEFORE THE WASH AND RINSE SPIN. DO NOT TURN THE TIMER THROUGH THESE PAUSES. THEY ARE PART OF THE CYCLE.
OPERATING NOTES
TIMER
Although the washer cycle is automatic, the timer is flexible and it may be reset to lengthen, shorten or repeat a portion of the cycle.

NORMAL RINSE SPIN OFF EX TILL LARGE MEDIUM SMALL WASH SPIN WASH SPIN RINSE PREWASH -SOAK SMALL MEDIUM LARGE OFF DURABLE PRESSTo Do This: Push timer knob IN to stop washer. Turn knob to the right to new position. Pull knob OUT to start washer. If washer is spinning, let it stop before changing the timer setting. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TURN THE TIMER KNOB TO THE LEFT OR YOU WILL DAMAGE THE TIMER.
To Add More Water After The Fill Has Stopped: Push timer knob IN. Turn it to the right to SMALL on the cycle you are using. Pull timer knob OUT.
To Stop Fill: Turn timer knob slowly to the right until fill stops and agitation starts.
To Shorten Wash Time: With timer knob OUT, turn it to the right after washer has stopped filling.
FOR YOUR SAFETY, A BRAKE WILL STOP THE TUB WITHIN SECONDS IF THE LOADING DOOR IS OPENED DURING SPINNING OR IF THE WASHER IS TURNED OFF. DO NOT PUT YOUR HANDS INTO THE TUB UNTIL ALL MOTION HAS STOPPED.
AUTOMATIC CYCLES...
NORMAL CYCLE - 14 minutes wash agitation. A regular cycle for regular loads of sturdy fabrics. During the last minute of wash and rinse agitation, fresh water enters the tub.

text_image
NORMAL EX-FILL LARGE MEDIUM SMALL WASH SPIN SPIN RINSE PREWASH-SOAKAt LARGE setting and in the deep rinse, this overflow rinse removes loose lint, suds and lighter than water soil from the water by floating it over the top of the tub. The wash overflow is the same temperature as the wash water and the rinse overflow is the same temperature as the rinse water.
Heavier than water soil settles to the bottom of the tub and is forced out through the "sediment ejector" during spinning. The water in the tub spins over the top of the tub into the outer tub and is then pumped out into the drain.
PREWASH-SOAK — This cycle starts at the rinse fill of the NORMAL cycle. The water will be the same temperature as the rinse water. Wash clothes as usual after the prewash-soak. For a longer soak, stop washer. See Handbook for more information on soaking.

text_image
SPIN RINSE PREWASH-SOAKDURABLE PRESS CYCLE—7 minute wash agitation. A special cycle with the shorter wash, rinse and spin times needed for durable press and more delicate loads. It has overflow rinses as in the NORMAL cycle but the wash overflow is the same temperature as the rinse water. In addition, there is a spray rinse of the same temperature at the start of the wash spin to cool durable press loads and items of man-made fibers such as in lingerie. These would be wrinkled if they were spun while hot. Always choose cold rinse for such loads. See Speed Queen Handbook.

The loading door or washer lid is hinged at one side so it will not interfere when the controls are being set. It may be used as a shelf and will hold a load of wet or dry clothes.
UNBALANCED LOAD...
One or two small heavy items, such as small rugs, may slow down the spin speed during spinning or cause the spin tub to bump inside the drain tub. The fluid drive will allow the spin to be completed with no harm to the washer but the clothes will retain more water than usual.
To Respin the Load: Push timer knob IN, rearrange the clothes, then reset the timer knob to the start of the spin. Pull timer knob OUT. In the future, add towels to balance the load.
BLEACH

natural_image
Simple line drawing of a bucket with handle and spout (no text or symbols)Chlorine bleach is effective not only for stain removal but also as a disinfectant especially for "sick room" clothes. Dilute liquid bleach in 1 quart water before adding to clothes in the washer. Never pour or spill undiluted bleach on clothes or they will be damaged. Follow bottle directions.
AMOUNT LIQUID BLEACH TO USE:
LARGE fill — up to 1 cupful
MEDIUM fill — up to 34 cupful
SMALL fill — up to 12 cupful
STAIN REMOVAL.....
Some soils are not readily removable by regular wash methods. They must be treated as stains and given special treatment. This is also necessary with durable press clothes. Prompt treatment makes stains easier to remove. See Speed Queen Handbook.
FABRIC SOFTENER....
Add fabric softener only to the rinse water with no other laundry product. It must be diluted with water to prevent clothes staining. It may be added to the rinse water any time up to one minute before the last overflow rinse. See Handbook.
