USING THE RADIO
GETTING STARTED
Carefully unpack the unit. If it is damaged, please return it to your nearest Tesco store for replacement. Remember to take your purchase receipt with you.
Retain the User Handbook. If you pass the unit on to a third party, pass on the handbook. If you dispose of the packing, do so having regard to any recycling regulations in your area.
INSERTING BATTERIES
You will need two "AA" size batteries. Lift off the battery compartment cover. Unwrap the batteries and insert them into the radio observing the polarity as shown, replace the cover.
OPERATION
- Slide the Power Switch to the "ON" position to turn the radio on. The POWER light will come on.
- Slide the Band Selector to the band in which the programme you want is being broadcast. The selected band is highlighted at the top of the tuning scale.
- Adjust the antenna. (See FM and SW Reception below)
- Tune in the station using the Tuning Knob. The Tuning Scale Indicator indicates the frequency of the tuned station
- Adjust the Volume Knob to set the desired sound level.
- After use: slide the Power Switch to the "OFF" position to turn the radio off. Retract the antenna and stow it in the cradle.
FM RECEPTION
Extend the antenna fully and rotate it for best reception. FM transmissions are horizontally polarised so extending the antenna sideways may give improved reception.
AM AND LW RECEPTION
The radio uses an internal Ferrite rod for these bands. Stow the antenna and rotate the radio for the best listening position.
SW RECEPTION (BANDS 1-9)
Extend the antenna vertically. Moving the radio around may improve reception, especially in Bands S and above.
OPERATING NOTES
Interference: LW, MW and SW bands are liable to interference from vehicles, domestic appliances etc. Accurate tuning and better placement can help but not eliminate interference. In the SW bands interference is also caused by teleprinters, "atmospherics" etc.
Tuning Indicator: The Tuning Indicator will light up in the presence of a strong signal. Always try and tune the signal so that this light comes on. If you are tuning a weak station the light may not come on even though the signal is receivable.
Power Light: This indicates the set is powered. If the light goes out when the radio is in use, you should replace the batteries even though reception is still possible.
Private Listening: A 3.5mm headphone jack is provided. Plugging in a pair of headphones disconnects the speaker.
AC Operation. You can connect an optional 3VDC power supply to the DC power jack. Ensure that the polarity of the adaptor matches the polarity marked on the jack.
DECLARATIONS
Under the environment with radio-frequency disturbance, the sample may malfunction and could self-recover when the interference disappears.
