BEFORE THE FIRST USE

  • Avoid placing the cabinet in a narrow recess or near any leave source, direct sunlight, or moisture.
  • Let air circulate freely around the cabinet. Keep the rear of the refrigerator 13 cm away from the wall.
  • Select a place with a strong, level floor. One can level the appliance using adjustable legs. The adjustable legs can be adjusting by screwing them in or out of the appliance.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and heat. Direct sunlight may affect the acrylic coating. Heat sources nearby will cause higher electricity consumption.
  • Avoid very moist places. Too much moisture in the air will cause frost to from very quickly on the evaporator, and your refrigerator.
  • Before connecting your refrigerator to the power supply, check that the voltage stated on the rating label of your appliance corresponds to the voltage in your home. A different voltage could damage the appliance.
  • The appliance must be grounded. The manufacturer is not responsible for damages that may occur as a result of usage without grounding.
    · For uneven surfaces, front feet can be aligned.
  • After installation, leave the freezer for 12 hours before turning it on. This way the refrigerant can settle.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL

- The internal temperature can be controlled by the thermostat, which can be set to 6 different positions. 1 is the warmest setting and 5 is the coldest. To turn off the appliance, set the temperature control to 'o'.

- Operating time and temperature are affected by where the freezer is used, the number of times the door is opened and the temperature of the room it is in.

COLDEST ZONE IN THE FRIDGE

To help you to set the temperature correctly, the fridge has a temperature indicator. This displays the average temperature in the coldest zone. The internal temperature is dependent on several factors such as the ambient temperature, the amount of food stored in the fridge and how often the door is opened and closed.

  • If the indicator display reads 'OK', this means that the temperature is set correctly and the internal temperature is correct.
  • If the indicator has a white/yellow line, this means that the temperature is too high. Turn the temperature down and wait 12 hours before checking whether the indicator reads 'OK'.

USE

STORING FOOD IN THE FRIDGE

The fridge helps to extend the storage times of fresh perishable foods. Fresh food care for best results:

  • Store foods that are very fresh and of good quality.
  • Ensure that food is well wrapped or covered before it is stored. This will prevent food from dehydrating, deteriorating in colour or losing taste and will help maintain freshness. It will also prevent odour transfer.
  • Make sure that strong smelling foods are wrapped or covered and stored away from foods such as butter, milk and cream which can be tainted by strong odours.
  • Cool hot foods down before placing them in the fridge.

FREEZING AND STORING FOOD IN THE FREEZER

Use the freezer

· To store deep-frozen food.
· To make ice cubes.
· To freeze food.
- Note: Ensure that the freezer door has been closed properly.
- Store at -18^ or colder. Avoid opening the freezer drawers unnecessarily.

Purchasing frozen food

  • Packaging must not be damaged.
  • Use by the 'use by /best before/best by/' date.
  • If possible, transport deep-frozen food in an insulated bag and place quickly in the freezer.

Freezing fresh food

Freeze fresh and undamaged food only. To retain the best possible nutritional value, flavour and colour, vegetables should be blanched before freezing. Aubergines, peppers, zucchini and asparagus do not require blanching.

Note: Keep food to be frozen away from food which is already frozen.

  • The following foods are suitable for freezing: Cakes and pastries, fish and seafood, meat, game, poultry, vegetables, fruit, herbs, eggs without shells, dairy products such as cheese and butter, ready meals and leftovers such as soups, stews, cooked meat and fish, potato dishes, soufflés and desserts.
  • The following foods are not suitable for freezing: Types of vegetables, which are usually consumed raw, such as lettuce or radishes, eggs in shells, grapes, whole apples, pears and peaches, hard-boiled eggs, yoghurt, soured milk, sour cream, and mayonnaise.

Packing frozen food

To prevent food from losing its flavour or drying out, place food in airtight packaging.

  1. Place food in packaging.
  2. Remove air.
  3. Seal the wrapping.
  4. Label packaging with contents and dates of freezing.

Suitable packaging: Plastic film, tubular film made of polyethylene, aluminium foil, freezer containers. These products are available from specialist outlets.

These times vary depending on the type of food. The food that you freeze can be preserved from 1 to 12 months (minimum at -18°C).

Food Storage time
Bacon, casseroles, milk 1 month
Bread, ice cream, sausages, pies, prepared shellfish, oily fish 2 months
Non-oily fish, shellfish, pizza, scones and muffins 3 months
Ham, cakes, biscuits, beef and lamb chops, poultry pieces 4 months
Butter, vegetables (blanched), eggs whole and yolks, cooked crayfish, minced meat (raw), pork (raw)6 months
Fruit (dry or in syrup), egg whites, beef (raw), whole chicken, lamb (raw), fruit cakes12 months

Never forget:

  • When you freeze fresh foods whit a 'use by /best before/best by/' date, you must freeze them before the expiry of this date.
  • Check that the food was not already frozen. Indeed, frozen food that has thawed completely must not be refrozen.
    · Once defrosted, food should be consumed quickly.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

CLEANING

Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or solvents.

  1. Set the temperature control knob to the "o" position and disconnect the mains plug from the mains socket.
  2. Take out the food and store in a cool location.
  3. Clean the appliance with a soft cloth, warm water and detergent.
  4. Wipe the door seal with clear water only and then wipe dry thoroughly.
  5. After cleaning reconnect and adjust the temperature control knob as desired.
  6. Put the food back into the appliance.

DEFROSTING THE FREEZER

A layer of frost in the freezer will impair refrigeration of the frozen food and increases power consumption. Remove the layer of frost regularly. Do not scrape off frost or ice with a knife or pointed object. Doing this may damage the refrigerant tubes.

  1. Remove the frozen food and place temporarily in a cool location.
  2. Disconnect the appliance from the mains socket.
  3. To accelerate the defrosting process, place a pan of hot water on a stand in the freezer.
  4. Wipe up condensation with a cloth or sponge.
  5. Wipe dry the freezer compartment.
  6. Plug in the appliance and adjust the temperature control knob as desired.
  7. Put the frozen food back in the freezer.

BULB REPLACEMENT

  1. Set the temperature to 'o'. Unplug the appliance from the power supply before replacing the light bulb.
  2. Remove the bulb cover.
  3. Unscrew the old bulb and then screw a new bulb.
  4. Replace the bulb cover. Now close the appliance.

MOVING YOUR APPLIANCE

If the appliance is turned off for any reason, wait for 12 hours before turning it back on. This will allow the refrigeration system pressures to equalise before restarting.

  • Turn off the appliance and unplug it from the mains socket. Remove all food. Also remove all mobile parts (shelves, accessories, etc.) or fix them into the fridge to avoid any shock.
  • Relocate and install. If the appliance has been left on its side for any length of time, leave it standing upright for at least 10 minutes before turning on.

Your appliance uses isobutane (R600a) as a refrigerant. Although R600a is an environmentally friendly and natural gas, it is explosive. Therefore you should be careful during shipment and installation to prevent your appliance's cooler elements from being damaged. In the event of a leak caused by damage to the cooler elements, move your fridge from open flame or heat sources and ventilate the room where the appliance is located for a few minutes.

VACATION TIME

For short vacation periods, leave the control knobs at their usual settings. During longer absences;

  1. Remove all foods.
  2. Disconnect from electrical outlet.
  3. Clean the refrigerator thoroughly, including defrost pan.
  4. Leave door open to avoid possible formations of condensate, mold or odors.

POWER FAILURE

- Most power failures are corrected within an hour or two and will not affect your refrigerator temperatures. However, you should minimize the number of door openings while the power is off. During power failures of longer duration, take steps to protect your food by blacking dry ice on top of packages.

  • Frozen food should not be affected if the power failure lasts for less than 15 hours.
  • Do not refreeze frozen foods that have thawed completely. The food may be dangerous to eat.

IMPORTANT RULES

  • Never place hot foods in the refrigerator.
  • Beverages should be stored in sealed containers.
  • Foods to be stored for a long time should be wrapped in cellophance or polyethylene, or kept in glass containers.
  • Never place spoiled foods in the cabinet.

· Do not freeze food again after it has been defrosted already.

- Do not place carbonated liquids such as fizzy drinks into the freezer.

  • Be careful when consuming ice lollies straight from the freezer to avoid freeze burns.
    · Do not take anything out of the freezer with wet hands.
  • The freezer produces sounds when the compressor pumps the refrigerant around. This is normal.
    · Do not place any hot foods into the freezer.
  • Make sure that all food in the freezer is covered.
    · Do not press together the food. The air should be able to circulate around the food.
  • Do not leave the door open for too long. Also make sure that the door is always properly closed.
