PRIOR TO FIRST USE
This unit brings water to the boil within a few minutes.
Fill the unit with clear cold water and re-boil it in order to clean the unit. Pour out the re-boiled water.
COMMISSIONING
- Insert the plug into the socket.
- Remove the lid.
-
Fill the electric kettle with a minimum of 0.5 litre of water. Do not exceed the maximum fill-level marking. The water would bubble over when boiling.
-
Place the lid back on. Check to see that it audibly locks into place.
- Place the electric kettle onto the base station and switch on the unit by touching the symbol.
- The current temperature is shown in the display.
- The desired temperature can be selected by turning the rotary adjuster. You can see the selected temperature in the display. Your desired temperature can be set in 1°C steps. You can set a temperature from 40°C to 100°C.
• The unit heats up directly.
IMPORTANT!
Make sure that the maximum fill mark is not exceeded. Fill the unit so that the water level is between the minimum and the maximum fill-level marking.
Burns / scalding may be caused by effervescent water.
- The current temperature is always shown in the display.
- Several beeps signal that the desired temperature has been reached.
- Unless the unit is switched off by pressing the power button, the temperature is maintained for approx. 30 minutes. Then the unit will switch off.
SETTING THE TEMPERATURE UNIT °C/°F
To change the temperature unit from Celsius to Fahrenheit or from Fahrenheit to Celsius, press the knob (no. 7) on the back of the base station. The display shows the desired unit.
DISPLAY OF THE BREWING TIME
To activate the brewing time display for overbrewing, press the on/off switch for about 3 seconds. It counts down from 3, then the brewing time display starts. To stop this, press the on/off switch again.
BREWING COFFEE BY HAND
This electric kettle is perfect for making coffee with the hand filter.
- Put the electric kettle into operation as described under "Putting into operation".
- Select a brewing temperature between 90^ and 96^ .
- Place a coffee filter on the filter jug and insert a filter. Rinse the filter with hot water and preheat the filter jug at the same time.
- Fill the filter with ground coffee. We recommend that you grind the beans fresh (grinding grade for filter coffee, 6 - 8 g ground coffee per 125 ml water)
- Pour a small swirl of hot water into the filter and allow the ground coffee to swell. This makes the coffee more aromatic.
- After waiting for about half a minute, slowly pour the remaining water into the filter in circular motions.
- Towards the end, always place a little water in the middle of the ground coffee.
- The optimum brewing time for approx. 2 cups (approx. 250 ml) is between 1:30 - 3:00 minutes.
- If the throughput time is too short or too long with a suitable amount of coffee, then the grinding level is probably too coarse or too fine.
SWITCHING SOUNDS ON/OFF
You can switch the sounds on or off. Press the knob (no. 7) on the back of the base station for 3 seconds. The 🔔 symbol for sounds on or the 🔔 symbol for sounds off appears in the display.
HOTPLATE FUNCTION
You can switch the hotplate function on or off. There is a slide control on the back of the base station. If the slide control is on the left, the hotplate function is switched off and HOLD appears in the display. If the slide control is on the right, the hotplate function is switched on and HOLD appears in the display.
BOIL-DRY AND OVERHEAT PROTECTION
This unit has been fitted with a dry-out and overheat protection. If it should happen that you operate the unit without water or with too little water, the unit will switch off and "E1" appears in the display. 3 beeps will sound. Wait for a short moment until the unit has cooled down. Fill the unit with water and continue as usual.
LIFT-OFF SHUTDOWN
Should you remove the unit from the base station during the boiling process, the unit will switch off itself. This is the so-called lift-off shutdown.
CLEANING OUTSIDE
Disconnect the mains plug from the socket and let the unit cool. Use a soft and moist cloth to clean the outer surfaces of the unit.
Use a mild detergent in case of heavy contamination.
Never clean the unit and the base station under running water and never immerse them into water.
DECALCIFYING / INSIDE CLEANING
Depending on the degree of hardness of the water in your region, lime deposits will develop at the bottom and on the inside wall of the container from time to time. The harder the water, the faster limit deposits will develop.
Descale the unit in regular intervals, because too much scale can affect the performance of the unit. A defect which can be traced back to lacking descaling is not covered by warranty!
If you regularly decalcify the unit, this will increase the service life of your unit. For decalcifying, we recommend to use Graef descaling tablets.
The descaling tablets are available in our online shop www.graef.de under article No. 145618.
Moreover, water also causes soiling on the inside of the container, which can also be removed by regular descaling.
Process:
- Fill the unit with water up to the maximum fill-level marking.
- Insert the descaling tablet, allow the tablet approx. 5 minutes to dissolve.
• Re-boil the decalcifying mixture.
• Empty the unit, and rinse it several times with clear water.
We do not assume any liability for lack of or insufficient descaling. In this case, the warranty will become null and void.
TWO-YEAR WARRANTY
As from the date of purchase we assume manufacturer warranty of twenty four months for defects which can be traced back to manufacturing and material defect. Your legal warranty claim in conformity with Section 437 et seq. of the German Civil Code (BGB) shall remain unaffected by this regulation. The warranty does not cover any damage which is caused by incorrect handling or use as well as defects which only slightly influence the function or the value of the unit. We do not assume any liability for damage caused by lack of or insufficient descaling and maintenance. In this case, the warranty will also become null and void. Moreover, transport damage insofar we are not responsible shall be excluded from the claims under guarantee. Warranty shall be ruled out for damage, the repair of which has not been carried out by us or one of our representations. In case of justified complaints, we shall repair the defective product or replace it by a product without defects at our discretion.
