Frequently Asked Questions - UM385 UNIDEN

How to make an automatic distress call on the Uniden UM385?

How to program the MMSI number on the radio?
Press CALL-MENU, select Setup, then User MMSI. Enter the nine digits using the CHANNEL UP/DOWN keys and confirm with ENT-1W/25W. Note: the MMSI number can only be entered once.
How to enter channel scan mode?
First save the channels to monitor by holding WX-MEM. Then press and hold CLR-SCAN to start scanning. The radio stops on active channels.
How to activate weather alert monitoring?
Press and hold CALL-MENU, select Setup, WX Alert Mode, then choose ON. The radio checks the last weather channel every 7 seconds and issues an alert if necessary.
What monitoring modes are available?
The radio offers three modes: Normal (single channel), Scan (memory channels), and Weather (NOAA channels). Additionally, you can activate Triple Watch (channels 16 and 9) or Dual Watch (channel 16 only) in any mode.
How to connect an external GPS receiver?
Use the supplied accessory cable. Connect the GREEN wire to the GPS ground, the YELLOW wire to the GPS NMEA data output. Ensure the baud rate is 4800 bps. The radio will display 'GPS Data OK' if the connection is successful.
How to adjust transmit power between 1W and 25W?
Press and hold the ENT-1W/25W key for two seconds. The display shows the current power. Remember to switch back to 1W when you are near other stations.
What to do if the display shows 'Input Position'?
The radio is not receiving valid GPS data. You can manually enter your position via Menu > Setup > GPS Setup > Position Set. Make sure to enter the correct UTC, latitude and longitude coordinates.
How to disable automatic channel switching during a DSC call?
Press and hold CALL-MENU, select Setup, then Auto CH SW, choose OFF. The radio will no longer automatically switch to the reply channel, but will respond with an 'unattended' status.
