Frequently Asked Questions - HG00752 Ernesto

Is this pan compatible with induction?
Yes, the Ernesto HG00752 pan is perfectly suitable for induction cooktops. Make sure to center the pan and select an appropriate cooking zone diameter (approx. 225 mm for the round model).
Can I use this pan in the oven?
Yes, it withstands a maximum temperature of 240 °C. Place it on the oven rack, not on the bottom.
How to clean the pan without damaging the enamel?
Let it cool slightly, then hand wash with hot water and mild dish soap. Use a non-abrasive sponge. Never put the pan in the dishwasher and avoid thermal shock (do not plunge hot into cold water).
Should I oil it before first use?
Yes, after boiling water 2 to 3 times and drying thoroughly, apply a thin layer of cooking oil inside and heat gently to create a protective film.
Does the handle get hot during cooking?
Yes, the handle becomes hot. Always use oven mitts or protective gloves to handle it.
Can I use metal utensils?
No, to preserve the enamel, use wooden, silicone, or heat-resistant plastic utensils. Avoid metal items that could scratch the surface.
How to prevent food from sticking?
Use moderate temperature (cast iron retains heat well) and let the pan heat up gradually. A light film of oil or butter also helps. Avoid excessively high temperatures.
What to do if the enamel chips?
The enamel can chip due to impact or rapid heating. If this happens, stop using the pan as fragments could mix with food. Consult the manual for more information.
Can I leave the pan in water after washing?
No, dry it immediately after washing to prevent rust. Store it in a dry, ventilated place. It is recommended to lightly oil the edge from time to time.
Is this pan compatible with the microwave?
No, the cast iron pan is not suitable for microwave. Use it only on conventional heat sources (gas, electric, induction, oven).

Safety instructions

SAVE ALL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE!

Beware that the handles may become very hot during cooking. So please use oven mitts or BBQ gloves for your protection.
Place the product when hot on a heatproof base and not on the unprotected countertop.

During cooking it is extremely important not to lose sight of the product while you are heating grease in it. Grease can overheat very quickly and ignite. In case of a grease fire, never attempt to extinguish the fire with water! Smother the flames with a lid or a thick wool blanket.

■ Make sure never to heat up the product while it is empty. Failure to do so may cause the enamel coating to crack.

To avoid damage to the black enamel coating, use kitchen utensils made of heat-resistant plastic or wood only. Do not cut any food directly in the product.
- Never put dripping wet meats in hot grease. The resulting splashing grease may come into contact with a glowing hob and start a fire.

Caution! Always lift the product when cooking in the oven or on stoves with a glass surface (e.g. ceramic glass, halogen and induction hobs). Never slide the product on surfaces such as these, as this may cause damage to the bottom of the product, the hob or the oven.
- Always adjust the size of gas flames to the bottom of the product – gas flames should NEVER burn past the product's sides.

■ The product is not microwavable.
The product is ovenproof! Place the product on an oven grate, not directly on the floor of the oven.
■ The product is not dishwasher proof.

FOOD-SAFE! The flavor and aroma of your foods are not affected by this product.

Use

Before first use, boil out the product 2 - 3 times with water to remove any production residue. Then clean the product with warm soapy water, rinse with clear water and dry thoroughly.

Brush a little oil or butter on the inside of the product. Slowly warm up the product at low temperature. Turn down the temperature as soon as the grease soaks in. Wait approx. 2 - 3 minutes until the product has cooled down and remove any excess grease.
Do not cook or grill at high temperature. Cast iron is an excellent retainer of heat, so medium temperature is fully sufficient. Too high a temperature may lead to unsatisfactory cooking results or cause foods to stick, e.g. as with omelet.
Do not heat up the product too quickly. Failure to do so may cause the enamel coating to crack, if the cast iron expands more quickly than the enamel.

Pleasenote: The black enamel coating will develop a brown-black film in time which improve the grilling properties of the product. This film comes from the natural oils and fats of the food you prepare in the product. Do not try to remove this film.

Information for use with induction hobs

Select a hob size that corresponds to the size of the bottom of the product to prevent heat loss.

■ Effective bottom size approx. 225 mm (109245-14-01, 109246-14-01 round cast iron pan)
■ Effective bottom size approx. 205 mm (109245-14-02, 109246-14-02 rectangular cast iron grill pan)

Please note: Under certain circumstances, the electromagnetic properties of the hob and the product may cause an odor to occur. This is normal and is not indicative of damage to your induction hob or the cooking dish.

Place the product in the middle of the induction hob.

■ CAUTION! High heating rate! When preheating the cooking dish, be careful not to overheat.

In case of overheating, air the room thoroughly.

● Cleaning and Care

■ Always allow the product to cool down slightly before cleaning. Never submerge the product in cold water while it is still hot. The temperature shock may damage the enamel. Also do not fill the product with cold water.

  • Rinse your product with hot water and off-the-shelf detergent.
  • First soak any food residue and remove them using a wooden scraper, sponge or brush.
  • Never use any hard objects, steel wool and/or abrasive or aggressive cleaning agents such as chlorine bleach – failure to do so may damage the enamel.

Thoroughly dry the product after cleaning. From time to time, rub a little cooking oil into the rim of the product to prevent the eventual formation of rust bloom.

■ Store the product in a dry, well-ventilated space.
