How to prepare yogurt with the SilverCrest SJB 15 B1 yogurt maker?

Pour 1 liter of milk (or cream) into a container, add a teaspoon of active yogurt cultures (plain, organic or probiotic yogurt). Mix, distribute into the 7 jars, place them in the yogurt maker, close the lid and plug in. Let ferment for 10 to 12 hours. Then refrigerate for at least 4 hours before tasting.

How long does it take to prepare yogurt?

Fermentation typically lasts between 10 and 12 hours. The time may vary depending on room temperature and the type of milk. The longer the time, the firmer and more acidic the yogurt.

What types of milk can I use?

You can use whole milk, semi-skimmed or skimmed milk, as well as goat's or sheep's milk. For creamier yogurt, replace part of the milk with fresh cream.

How to clean the yogurt maker?

Unplug the appliance and let it cool. Wipe the inside and outside of the base with a soft damp cloth (optionally with a drop of dish soap, then rinse). The glass jars and their lids can be washed in the dishwasher.

Can I use store-bought cultures?

Yes, use plain store-bought yogurt containing active cultures (check for no preservatives). You can also use freeze-dried yogurt starters.

What to do if my yogurt is too runny?

Several possible causes: milk too skimmed, insufficient fermentation time, inactive cultures, or room temperature too low. Try increasing the fermentation time or use whole milk.

Can I make fruit yogurt?

Yes, you can add fresh fruit or fruit purée at the bottom of the jars before pouring the milk-culture mixture. Avoid acidic fruits (pineapple, kiwi) which can prevent setting.

Does the yogurt maker stop automatically?

No, this appliance does not have a timer or automatic shut-off. You must monitor the fermentation time and unplug it manually after 10-12 hours.

How to store prepared yogurt?

Once fermentation is complete, immediately place the jars in the refrigerator. The yogurt keeps for about 7 to 10 days in the cold, in airtight jars.

The SilverCrest yoghurt maker SJB 15 B1 is suitable for making yoghurt. The preparation of other foods is not permissible. Only use the yoghurt maker indoors, never outside. This product is intended for use in private households and is not suitable for commercial purposes. The appliance is likewise suitable for: • use in staff kitchens in shops, offices and other commercial areas, • use in agricultural settings, • customers in hotels, motels and other accommodations, • bed-and-breakfast establishments.
